OK so this was pretty easy. Not sure why they are making a modified XBMC to fix the permissions when it can easily be done in boot.img.

Please test this patch.
All this does is replace boot.img in my Finless 1.8 ROM for the ENY square box.
I have tested and check the permissions of the files after applying and they are correct. Just don't have time to test standard XBMC.

It does not erase or do anything else. The boot.img is a modified one to fix permissions and is to ONLY BE USED with my ENY Square box Finless 1.8 ROM


No instructions! Just apply the update from recovery. If you don't know how to do that then you should not be messing with it.

REMEMBER TO TEST THIS, Remove all the init.d script you may have added BEFORE applying this patch. If you don't then your not testing it!

If this works for everyone I will start to add it to all my future ROMs.

Tried to install patch through recovery from a fresh install of finless 1.8..this is what i get ..any help would be appreciated..my question is,,. did the patch install successfully or not??..thanks..as i was readin through the install process a part says can not find customized_data.tar to install....skipping....have a look pls..thank u..

I have no idea, because these are the last lines at the update script:

write_raw_image(package_extract_file("boot.img"), "boot");

ui_print("Select reboot now in recovery menu");

But what I find, if I use google with 'customized_data.tar', are some hits related to MX... so maybe you have some other things at the SD which the recovery also try to execute?

Ok i will check..as i did it on usb stick not an sd card...i might use sd card instead....see if it works

It should not effect anything. It is used by ENY to pre-install APPs and will always show up when doing any update from recovery. Ignore it.

Thanks...still some interlacing problems..but spmc works now after patch
..with all Hardware settings checked..same with. Omans xbmc.
.havent tried stanes xbmc yet...will this problem be resolved in future updates if there is any??thanks again...

Any major differences you did on finless 1.9 for the DiscoverX M8 compared to this? Don't see anything on forum about it.

I've tried all combinations ..
My modem is a very solid and sturdy.


Conclusion: PC: 22Mbps
Android Note3: 22 Mbps
M8: 3 Mbps


I'm using 2.4 GHz.

Hi,

I'm looking for a configuration regarding hardware acceleration. Still not satisfied with my 720p and 1080p playback. Should I leave all three codecs enabled? Hardware or software acceleration? And what about HD Scaler? I'm running Finless rom 1.8 and XBMC 13.2 stable on my M8.

Also what does interlaced video bug mean please?

WiFi issues....?

Hey guys - new to this forum, not new to Android or custom ROMs though.

M8 Square box came with an August firmware but had a couple of issues - Google Play wouldn't load and system would keep defaulting video settings so thought I would try Finless.

Flashed fine, no issues that I can see....however my wifi no longer operates - at all! Tried reverting back to other factory roms, but still no such luck. My guess is that it's a 'box that looks like that box but isn't that box' ;-) (apparently we don't use the word clone lol) and has a different wifi NIC. Tried going into Android settings, switch turns to 'on' but stays grey, reverts back to off as soon as I exit.

Sideloaded Root Explorer, navigated to /data/misc/wifi and I only have the sockets folder (currently empty) and softap.conf files. Seems that wifi card has no MAC address and obviously no driver now. LAN connection is working okay although I don't have a 40 foot ethernet cord in my back pocket to test but it does get an IP from another router I had kicking around.

Any ideas? Need be I will just throw in an external antenna on the h/w LAN as a bridge but would rather get this up and running as is if possible.

EDIT: Tried Droid-TVs recovery process - TWRP wouldn't mount and/or find the external SD card. Could have copied and pasted into internal but frankly gave up and just hooked up an external WiFi bridge. Would still love to know what happened though and why I lost the entirety of my NIC settings, including the MAC. Anyone else seen this?

thing is finless 1.8 didnt brick it..but I tried to flash and amlogic oem firmware and now its dead...
Where can I buy safely a box which is compatible with finless roms??

I have a M8N the new model with a different IR remote. When I install this Finless rom the buttons on the new IR Remote don't do what they should do.

Are they functions controlled by a kl file? Any hints on what file to modify are appreciated.
