4% and still going... (Second low battery warning).... battery indicator is now a red exclamation point... maybe this tablet doesn't have an emergency shutoff or maybe zero isn't a true zero as a safety measure...

Well the battery reported zero % right before the tablet shutdown...

I also confirmed that pushing on the cable that is routed over the corner of the battery causes the battery plug to pull loose...

I think we can consider this issue solved for good!

I'll post photos or maybe a short video when I find time...

FYI... I believe I fixed mine by cutting a small piece of soft scrap plastic to fit in the space under the battery cable between the battery and the main board... by eliminating that gap, there is no place for the battery cable to be pushed into to pull the plug out of the connector... not sure if this was the best fix, but it seemed to be the easiest solution...

Unfortunately, I also broke one of the tiny speaker wires while working on it... that's going to require a soldering tool to fix...

Hell yeah! My tablet's battery is functioning properly now as far as i can tell. When it would shut off, a lot of time, it would not charge properly. I would wait for it to charge a bit before turning it on. It would just go to the battery charging screen. Sometimes i would wait till it was complete and the indicator light would turn orange. When I went to turn it on, the indicator light would turn red(cable was still attached )and the battery charging screen would indicate no charge whatsoever. Frustrating. i found a brief workaround. Boot into CWM and let it charge until complete and reboot from there. Sometimes it would boot, sometimes battery screen with no charge. I removed the cover and properly reattached the battery cable you mentioned. It was somewhat loose. after replacing the cover, i connected the charger and battery screen showed about half battery charged when right before taking the cover off and attaching the cable, it was not booting and battery screen showed no charge. My tablet would shut off at about 50%, so the battery screen showing half charge after reattaching the cable was the first sign that it was working properly. When i went to turn it on, it booted up the first time. Hell yeah! Am currently discharging now. Will let you know if it shuts off at 50% or what. Hopefully i can attain the same results as you.

I attempted to remove the back of my tablet and check the connection and in doing so I not only managed to fracture the screen but also to cause the touch screen to no longer work. Turns out it was all for naught as my connection was solidly in place.

Just a word of warning on what can happen.

                    Battery data

Has anyone found the data for the battery? Did anyone notice any data on the physical battery when they had their tablet disassembled?

Yes there is a data stick on the side of the battery. If you want I could take a pic of my old broken one in fact if anybody would like pics of the nx785qc8g internals let me know

                        touch ubuntu

Anyone been successful with touch Ubuntu or any other Linux distro I know you can setup ubuntu to Run with external mouse keyboard etc.. But we have PC's for that lol. I know Mali 400 is supported by Linux so we should be able to dual boot with our radxa

                                YES!

I think it is safe to say that I am VERY close to releasing a whole bunch of stuff...

TWRP works! It turns out that I didn't need to port any features from the stock Rockchip recovery, once I learned how Rockchip was doing things, I found my own workaround that didn't require adding any new features to TWRP.

To give you an idea of how close I am to release... here is a list of some of things that appear to be working:

                                • TWRP Fix Permissions bug I mentioned previously was fixed by a TWRP source code update.
                                • TWRP UI Layout has been modified to fit our device screen.
                                • TWRP backup and restore work for ALL partitions on the device. (Including parameter and bootloader!)
                                • TWRP Wiping works for ANY partition on the device. (Including /data, /cache, /dalvik and /sdcard which didn't always work correctly in stock recovery.)
                                • TWRP Flashing works for ALL partitions using standard .zip update files. (Including /parameter to change partition layout sizes and /misc for bootloader!)

So... here's what is left to do...

                                • Write the scripts for the various update packages.
                                • Prepare and package the update files.
                                • Test to verify all the updates are applied correctly.
                                • Upload the update packages.
                                • Write up the posts and publicly release the files.

I think it is going to work like this:

                                • Install TWRP Recovery using stock recovery.
                                • Backup ALL of your existing partitions. (Or don't... just don't blame me if something goes horribly wrong...)
                                • Flash the parameter file for your desired partition layout.
                                • Reboot to recovery and wipe /data, /cache, and reformat /sdcard. (I might automate this.)
                                • Optional: Flash a new version of my ROM.
                                • Reboot Android and enjoy!

                                Stay tuned...
