Just threw this up on my GS - for some reason once it's loaded, the SD card is inaccessible- but it shows up in settings and I can format it. I can also flash from it. Very strange - never seen this behavior before on any device.

any ideas as to why it's happening?
    tried reflashing as well.
Mine did this but it was a bad stick I exchanged it and it works fine now.

Just got a GameStick and flash CFW right away. Wifi speed is terrible. 3 megabits/sec. I have a RTL8192cu USB wifi dongle/adapter but does not work when connected. I see the 8192cu.ko in system\lib. I have never used a dongle for an Android device before. Is there a command or config that I need to activate it? If this works, then this would make for a great Android stick. Please help!

Just scooped a GameStick and Dock - Would really appreciate updated complete instructions

Hello! Great Job with your project!

I was visiting Game Stop today and decided to scoop up a GameStick (16 bucks) and a Dock (4 bucks). I have read this thread, but must admit I am a bit confused. Would it be possible to repost the instructions on what I need to do in order to install this on my GameStick to use with the port? Do I install prior to putting the stick int he dock? Will I be able to use the ethernet port on the dock? What about the internal storage on the dock?

I apologize for being a noob, but despite having some success tinkering with various products, this will be my first with this type of device or method.

Hoping to be able to have all of the things a previous user was hoping for.. "Google Play Store, Check Email, GameBoy, GameBoy Color, GameBoy Advance, NES, SNES, N64, Sega, Sega Genesis Emulation if Possible."

        Thanks in advance.

Its easy, well except for booting into recovery. You need a microsd card, a usb keyboard (I used the Logitech K400 wireless keyboard), and a otg y-adapter (to plug a usb keyboard or dongle and power it up) you may not need it if it is plugged into the dock but I do not have a dock so I am not sure...

          1. Download the image and copy it over to a microsd card.

          2. Insert the microsd card and plug in the keyboard into the GameStick.

          3. Boot into recovery mode by pressing the side button (its more like a on\off switch than a push in button). I recommend using a paperclip. While pressing the button, plug in power.

          4. Once in recovery select flash image (do not remember actual verbiage but it is similar to most android recovery modes) navigate to the microsd and select the image.

          5. Select reboot and your done.

Guys the wifi on this is terrible. Bluetooth too (I have to be like 5 feet away to use the bluetooth controller). I have mine connected to a usb hub with a Logitech nano receiver and a usb nic dongle. I have plex streaming without issue. Before the nic dongle I had a lot of stuttering and failed streams and thought the cpu couldn't handle the video decoding.

Has anybody used a external usb wifi and\or bluetooth dongle?

What are you guys using the gamestick for? (streaming, youtube, plex, xbmc, emulators, play store games) describe your setup.

I have mine streaming plex and youtube right now but would like to test out emulators on the controller and mouse and keyboard.

Thank you very much my friend. I am going to try this in the morning once I get my keyboard from the attic. One other question if you don't mind... The micro SD.. do I have to leave it in the gamestick which I guess would mean there is no way to take advantage of the internal memory of the gamestick? Asking bc I may borrow the one from my go pro to do this job.

Also, regarding the dock.. It appears that he posted a patch for this to work with the dock and have ethernet.. see below. I can follow your instructions, but his instructions regarding the patch... seems like it is assuming I know what to do with it which I don't! lol.

"This is a patch that adds the welcome screen, if you have the dock and want to use Ethernet this is the only way to enable it.

              OOBE Patch: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95747613655043085

just flash it in recovery and the welcome screen should popup after reboot"

To apply the patch follow the exact same steps, but using the patch file instead.

After the firmware and patch are installed, you can take out the microsd

No files shown on SD card inserted into GameStick..

Was able to get to the part of the instructions where we choose the new rom. I can select sd card option. but no files are listed. I re-downloaded and and tried again with the same issue. Anyone have the same issue, but got it working? I saw another user said it was a bad stick, but I purchased the last one at gamestop and doubt they will get anymore in anytime soon.

How big is the microsd card? I used an 8gb, it may not recognize SDHC (cards larger than 32gb). Also sd card you are referring to in recovery could be the internal storage and your sd could be called external usb or external sd. When I get a chance I will try a 32gb and 64gb to see if it loads in recovery and in android.

The patch could be loaded the same way right after flashing the firmware image.

I remember reading about the size limitations... I have a large card. I think a 64gb. I will purchase a smaller one and see if I can get it to work... thanks for the reminder.

I Installed the ROM with success and the patch as well. However, I am not sure what to do in setting up the Ethernet. Once I install the patch do I run through the setup with the gamestick not plugged into the dock? I tried to use the dock and the same keyboard plugged into the dock, but keyboard did not appear to work that way so I plugged the keyboard directly into gamestick like when I installed the ROM and patch. I am at the point in setup where I turned Ethernet on and it has a screen showing me list of Ethernet devices which is obviously empty bc I am not using the dock so no Ethernet wire.

I will attempt to go through setup this way.

                          Questions...

                          1) How to use the gamestick controller (gamepad) with this ROM?

                          2) How to use xbox controller with this device? Does it need to be wired?

                          3) I read about the iphone app that allows one to use an ios device to control. What is the name of the app and any instructions would be great .

                          4) Once ROM is installed and set up, how to I get the emulators installed?

                          5) Finally, any options to download and install any games to try out without creating an account with googleplay, etc.?

                            Hey,
                            I'm using this.
i'll attempt to answer your questions.

                            1. you need to go into settings, make sure BT is on then pair up the controller. you may also need to reset the controller via the pin hole on the bottom.

I've found that if the controller goes into sleep mode I usually have to manually re synch it. I keep a mini-handheld trackball/mouse attached to the gamestick along with an xbox360 controller all the time.

which leads me to 2. I only have a wired xbox controller. it seems to work just fine.

                            3. no idea. i only have android devices.

                            4. since you don't want to setup google play you can probably goto the individual emulators websites and download the .apk then install.

                            5. just search for "alternative android stores" plenty of options. smaller than play but might have less junk on them also.

Does the ROM support USB camera? I have a external USB camera with Microphone. It will be great I can use this for video calls via SKYPE or Hangouts.

                              Thank you.

                                Thanks for the custom Rom

I'm loving the rom so far, but really need the cifs modules so that i can mount drives on this stick.

If I had this one thing, I can stream games and other media from my home media shares.

If there is any way you can compile these modules, and post them, I'd be eternally grateful. Also, I was looking to compile this myself, as I think it'd be fun to get into android building.

Can I use your img to do this, or do I have to find another base kernel, and build it to be what I want? Just wondering where to start.
