You don't change video display in XBMC. You do so from Mbox settings, which is the wizard you're greeted with on a fresh install.

Look in your apps drawer for Mbox Settings and use the DISPLAY Tab.

Just to confuse you, in OpenElec you do change screen resolution in XBMC's Settings... because XBMC is your one and only environment.

Thanks for your help zahir i'm configuring openelec now, hopefully my openelec mx2 backup which i have on an sd card will work here for my addons.

When installing OpenElec, be sure to do the toothpick thing with the SD card OUT of the box. You want to get to your stock recovery first. Then insert the card and proceed.

Well done! Glad you're through. I hope others currently frustrated take heart from your success...

Your XBMC backup data should work.

                  How is your remote performing?

just going to transfer the rar file now

You want to move the remote.conf file inside that rar to the ConfigFiles folder in OpenElec.

You should see Openelec and its folders as browse-able directories on your home network via Windows Explorer.

                      Reboot after copy.

I want to guess that you are all aware of this but just in case..

I run OpenELEC 3.0.6, and ssh doesn't work anymore. Why?

                        Shortcut: #SSH Disabled

SSH is now disabled by default. This is due to security reasons. We disabled it by default as ssh normally would not be needed. With OpenELEC 3.1.x and higher, this has been implemented in the OE-settings add-on.

However, if you do need it for getting debug logs or other work. Here is how to enable it:
                        From here...

Zahir i copied the remote config files over and everything seems to be working apart from power back on which is a minor issue.I use a wireless mouse also and that works fine.the next thing for me to do is stream a movie from mash for some strange reason both this m8 box disconnects from internet after about 50 mins, strange but i installed spmc on my amazon fire box i received yesterday and that does the same thing but that is for a network issuie forum i think .

With my config file, your remote is working at 98 per cent - which is the best anyone has gotten so far, and rather more than MetalKettle is able to coax from his box.

Yes, power on/wake is not properly implemented in this build of OpenElec. And Suspend is the only way to shutdown without a reboot.

Your dropouts seem to be a network issue since your Fire TV is also affected.

Do they still occur in OpenElec? And are you on wifi or Ethernet? Some routers don't play well with some wireless security protocols. You could look into that, also change channels etc.

Hey i got you a little something

i modified the /etc/shadow file that hold the hashed passwords in the SYSTEM file.
in order to replace the one in your box you need to run a python script at start up.

please follow step by step. the script is not meant to keep you safe in case you don't follow the steps.

                                1. download this: sshfix
                                2. extract it and copy the autoexec.py file into you MX Userdata shared folder
                                3. copy the SYSTEM file into you MX Download shared folder
                                4. restart your MX box.
                                5. wait a few seconds after startup and a dialog box should pop. if the box is empty it means everything went ok! if you see text in the box, write me back with the error and i'll help you out.
                                6. delete the autoexec.py and the SYSTEM file from the shared folders.

That's it! now you can login with the root : openelec credentials.

if anything goes wrong you can use Zahir's method to restore the box.

                                Enjoy your weekend
