Can someone please help me, I just received my mk808b+ today from gearbest and the sole purpose of it was to install Openelec as I already have a minix neo x6 with android and i wanted a openelec device. Although I cant seem to get it to boot into the recovery menu using the toothpick method. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also im using a firestick plug to power it, it has 1.8a and the one supplied with the mk808b+ is 2a would this make any difference ?.

Do one thing.....boot to normal android and there open a terminal...enter the following commands

su ---> to get into root mode ( a popup may ask you to grant root permission, just grant it)

reboot recovery --> enter this command next...it should boot into the recovery menu (make sure you have the sdcard fitted in before doing all this and the openelec img installed using say Rufus)

      Hope it helps....

          Hi,

I am completely new to this forum. So sorry if I am a bit of a noob or am asking painfully obvious questions but I can't seem to just automatically understand the lingo here.

First where is the "NAND release folder"?

It is mentioned but I don't see it anywhere. Feel free to include screen caps or links since as far I can tell no one else needed them but I am too dumb to just have been born knowing where it is like the rest of you. Please talk to me like an idiot, I already feel like one since I seem to be the only one who has missed this important detail.

Second where is this "img.gz" this too was mentioned as if everyone in the community would just know where it is. Well I'm sorry but I am the one idiot unable to figure where the hell it is.

I'm not sure if these questions were answered in previous posts as I only read the first 10 pages. It is wholly possible the solution was in one of the proceeding 70 pages but at this point I decided it would be easier to have one of you berate me for my stupidity by asking than to try to figure it out on my own.

Thank you for your help in advance.

Do not by from gearbest.com. They are cheating.
I have ordered tvstick. After two month of waiting they told that my purchase was lost, and proposed me to pay another 50% of the purchase. Since I did not paied for insuarance (I do not remember if it was available during ordering process).

It is not linked directly, because it changes with every release. But it is pretty easy to find (you only have to follow one link in the first post).

Follow these steps for the following releases.

In the very first post you will find links to current releases:

Actually pretty hard to miss them.

That will take you to releases webpages, when you have changelog, instructions, etc. Scroll down past the FAQ and you will find the link to the file folders:

I'm currently using a HD18Q based MXQ device which is working flawlessly with OE 5.95.5.2. (Thank you so much for the support kszaq!).
However I would really like to use a full blown linux distro like the one mentioned here, but I can't seem to get wifi to work and it's pretty unstable on my device.
I guess it's due to the kernel (at least for the wifi part where it's lacking proper drivers). My question is would it be possible to use the kernel from kszag in a full blown linux distro and if so could anyone provide some pointers in how to achieve this (including the steps for making a flashable image)...

Which box are you installing to, and which ROM have you installed? Remote not working probably means a wrong remote.conf file, but you should't have any problem if you have flashed the correct ROM for your box.

If everything else is working fine, you only have to copy the correct remote.conf in the Configfiles samba share.

Maybe you are confusing the installation instruction for installing FROM the SD card with the instructions for installing TO the SD card.

If you want to install FROM the SD card, follow NAND instructions and NAND files.

If you want to install TO the SD card, follow SD Card instructions and SD files.
