Yeesh, I slack off for a day and have 2+ pages to catch up on when I get back . I just tried out the chinese recovery, so far it's hung up for about 4 minutes on "upgrading... please wait" which is what we get when first starting the recovery mode. Promising, because at least this recovery does something other than fail and boot into stock recovery.

Something that may work better than all this guessing and checking... I'm sure there's enough of us who bought this tablet that if we all chip in some $$ to Bob's donation link he can go pick up one of these blasted things and tear into it firsthand rather than relying on one million of us monkeys pounding away at ADB and terminal emulator trying to write Shakespeare . I'm game to kick in the first $20 (and am doing so after this post), if nothing else then I'll do it simply out of appreciation for the time Bob has put into this contraption and others on his site.

re downloaded the zip file,unzipped it to a folder, reformatted the sd card, made sure there was not any files or folders on it. dropped the uImage_recovery file from the folder into the sdcard, turned the tab off .. pressed the volume down, pressed the power button until it booted into recovery mode, and there it sits and has been sitting at upgrading...please wait for about 20 minutes.

Same result when I tried. Just to see what happens I also put it on the sdcard with Bob's AML_autoscript and the root ext3 .zip (which should probably be UBIFS instead based on the ext3 info coming from a mutant version of the tablet?), then renaming the uImage_recovery to uImage_cwm for use with the autoscript. I then get the black screen when booting normally or when trying to boot to recovery. There's definitely some response since the screen lightens up noticeably to a backlit black screen when turning it on, but the sdcard has to be removed to get it to finally boot.

on xda found this thread for amlogic aml8726-, tablets .. maybe theres somethings that could help.. be careful these things could brick your tablet..

maybe we could get a cyonegenmod to work for this thing eventually, looks like they have one for the ainol novo advanced 8 , but that is for the first gen amlogic m1 .. the flashtool for the cyanogenmod is almost like the rktool .. I have a cyanogenmod for my phone so im familar using there flash tool ..

I just tried using a market update package, it found the update package but failed to verify the whole file signature, signature verification failed.. https://www.dropbox.com/s/fnfinps5c9...5984512146.jpg .. it got about halfway updating ..
the zip file needs to signed .. heres the link to the zip file .. I included a factory_update_param.aml file .. it looks like this file makes it able to read files on the sdcard .

Still running down the 3G Dongle angle...

Sorry I've been AWOL for a couple of days. I've been busy with some unrelated stuff, but I have been looking into the 3G dongle angle. I haven't made it to the AT&T store yet, either, but I plan to do so tomorrow.

I found the Huawei E220 USB dongle which works with Windows laptops and I've seen mention that it works with Android tabs as well. They are pretty cheap on **** but they ship from china so it would probably take a couple of weeks to get one. Meanwhile, I sent a question off to Nextbook tech support asking whether this dongle would work with my tablet and, if not, if there is another one that would work.

I know you guys are moving another direction, but I'm thinking that if I can plug in a 3G dongle that is recognized the tablet will start that ppp daemon and run the modified startup script. I'll keep everyone posted on my progress.

BTW, from catching up on posts I have a question: are we sure we are using the correct file system for the update on the SD card? I'm referring to UBIFS vs EXT3, not that I would know the difference!

we need to try it all.. all directions are one direction .. forward we go .. ,, not sure about the file systems ..

Yes I have been chasing down many M3 TV player roms etc. This is how I found the sdcard method.

I will look into seeing if the sdcard mehod can be used to patch rather then erase nand and flash a new ROM.

ZIP on sdcard methods wont work unless we can find a recovery (uImage_recovery) that will work for you guys and uses standard google test key signing. Or as pointed out a CWM made for M3. So far no go with that!

I found this page .. http://androidforums.com/google-tv/6...ml#post4967359 .. they are discussing were the android 4.0.4 came from , what manufacture made the 4.0.4. Know one knows yet. someone mentioned geniatech as being one of the major firmware supporters for the am mx m3 mx/m6 devices.
what I was thinking maybe mascondante could flash his tablet with the link to the firmware i posted up above to see what happens. use a mini hdmi cable and hook it up to tv to see if it works. it would be a minimal flash lacking a lot of the drivers for his device because its for a tv box,

Well.... I still thinking finding a recovery that can boot from SDcard is the best way. It's the safe way!

However, I cannot even take a part and build my stock recovery! It wont boot. WTF

I have taken apart boot and can rebuild it no issues! But I cannot seem to simply take apart recovery and rebuild it using the scripts that are out there!

FYI, recovery has the keys to signing. If I can get somewhere with this, I think this is the solution. Alas I have spent most the day trying to make a working recovery even for my own Ramos MX tab to NO AVAIL
