You do not have to do that. You can download with windows just do not open the zip in windows.

Verification failed. I keep hoping I goofed something up but I'm following the above exactly with regard to files, placement, etc. Turning device off and booting into recovery via volume - and power button.

So you understand the aml_autoscript is looking for the recovery with the name uImage_cwm. This is why it MUST be renamed! Also note the capitol I in uImage.

Now on SDcard should only be
        aml_autoscript
        the renamed uImage_cwm
and any update zip file I give you to try. We are trying to get past the signature problem now.

Hang tight I am going to sign this beoch with Google test keys. I do not know what the guy signed the ZIP with for his update-signed.zip[ but I will try this first.

Stay tuned and please follow all instructions. If you have a question about the renaming thing. ask. But do not leave any other files on SDcard other than what I said.

        Bob
Why not just put everything that you want us to try out in one zip file, including the update.zip? Although I'm going to have to bow out soon... dinner at Sweet Tomatoes!

Hopefully when I get back you guys will have this all figured out!

          SON OF A B

We will figure this out. I think we are close. But what bothers me is the following.

Using the recovery from the TV player and the signed-update.zip from the TV player... Your telling me that you do not get a signature verification error just a other error?

Please try that. Use the TV player recovery (renamed to uImage_cwm) and put the update-signed.zip from the TV player thread onto the sdcard. Tell me what error you get when you try to apply the update-signed.zip. It should be some failure as it tries to mount system as YAFFS2 instead of ext3. It should not give a signature error.

I hadn't yet tried the .zip from the TV box ROM, it's a 130mb file size and contained a recovery folder and some other stuff I was leery of.

OK wait... I will upload the xip file from the TV ROM here... hold on.

Hrmmm... Tried the TV box ROM .zip file and it also failed signature verification. Looks like we're not actually getting into the sdcard version of the recovery and it's instead using the stock recovery.

OK from that TV player post is the download for ONLY the rooting zip. Here it is

Let me know what happens when you use this zip and the TV player recovery.

I had tried refee120710bgzp-120827noapk-4ethernet.zip from that original file, which oddly failed signature verification. Trying the one you uploaded now though.

Same result with the file you just uploaded, signature verification failed. I don't think I'm getting into the correct recovery... It looks exactly the same as the device's stock recovery no matter what I try: uImage_recovery file from clockworkmod 6 and 5, etc. The only uImage file that did anything different was the original one you uploaded based on your tablet which wiped out the screen. That uImage_recovery (renamed to uImage_cwm) is the only one I've been changing aside from the attempted .zip files.

OK so possibly that TV player recovery is not working... Let me explain.

On boot, uboot looks for aml_autoscript on sdcard. aml_autoscript then tells it to boot recovery_cwm from sdcard. We know aml_autoscript is working because the Ramos W13 recovery I gave you guys has a messed up screen. So we KNOW it did load that recovery.
HOWEVER, if it cannot boot that recovery from SDcard it WILL fall back to recovery on NAND memory (what is flashed to the tablet). So you might be right. The TV player recovery is actually NOT working. I am saying, and agreeing, it is not working because you SHOULD NOT get a signature error using what that TV player is doing with the ZIP.... again it is saying signature verification. This makes me belive it is bouncing back to stock recovery in NAND because this recovery is not loading.

So we might have to keep downloading other ROMs and trying the recoveries from them.

We are starting to get desperate.... We have to keep working on this. I wish I had this tablet myself. Without it I am shooting in the dark.

Interesting. I reverted back to using the original files you had uploaded (with aml_autoscript, uImage, and uImage_cwm plus update_root_ext3.zip). With those on the root of the microSD I can't boot the tablet at all. Once the card is removed it boots fine into either stock recovery or normal startup mode. Deleting the uImage file still results in an unresponsive tablet as eegor had noticed. I'm going to replace just the uImage_cwm file with the one I got from the tv box ROM and see if that allows a boot with the card inserted.

I greatly appreciate all the time and effort you're putting into this! For me it has become somewhat of a neurotic challenge to get this thing rooted so I'm going to keep running through 8726-M3 roms and yanking over the uImage_recovery files to see if anything sticks.

Confirmed it, replacing your original uImage_cwm with any other seems to boot into normal recovery with the sdcard inserted. When I use your original file it results in an unresponsive tablet on boot (either trying to boot normally or into recovery). It's strange, but I can't seem to reproduce the fuzzed screen issue now. I'll start going through other ROMs and pulling out the recovery files and will report back after a while.

I will be 100% honest with you here. I still do not fully understand AMLogic boot process. I have learned some but am in no way an expert! Seems the people like _fun, etc on XDA don't want to give up all their secrets about AMlogic ROMs.

On Rockchip, signing is 100% up to recovery. However, it is possible the signing of update.zip is also in uboot! If that is the case we do not want to mess around here. There are 2 things that can PERMA BRICK a AMlogic device. Flashing uboot and/or flashing recovery to NAND.

However there is a SDcard special way to recover from screwing that up, but it for sure requires we have uboot and recovery from stock ROM to do that!

However with that said, CWM recoveries still seem to work without uboot. Based on what I have studied. So I still think this signing thing is recovery and nothing else. I could be wrong though. BUT if it is recovery, this is why we must find a recovery we can boot from sdcard! We will get past this sigining thing if we do.

Hmmm... maybe a CWM recovery for AML8726-M3 will work for us.... TRY TO FIND a CWM for this chipset. CWM can be set to ignore siganture... So we find a CWM recovery that works on AML8726-M3 we can boot from SDcard.

REMEMBER THIS... NO matter what you do, ONLY put aml_autoscript, the recovery renamed to uImage_cwm, and the update.zip you want on sdcard. NEVER put anything else or you could brick. Doing this means you are not flashing anything only booting the recovery from sdcard.
