    Same here.

My battery also went from reading full down to kaput (8%) as soon as I unplugged it from the computer after trying the recovery. Probably unrelated, but odd nonetheless. Going to plug it into the stock DC adapter to be safe here.

That's weird... so did mine! I thought I had just run the battery down with all of the rebooting and resetting I've been doing!

EDIT: After being on the charger for about 10 minutes, it is back up to 91%. Strange.

I can't tell if there's any response to volume / power presses, I can however barely make out a ghosted image at the bottom right corner of a battery icon, wifi icon, and clock. Might be an after-image of the normal screen.

It does seem like the washed out screen is dynamic in some degree but I can't tell if there's any response to volume or power buttons. It starts off white / gray with lines through it and progressively gets darker after a few minutes. Definitely zaps the battery down to nothing though so I'm leaving it on the stock power adapter.

              Just do this test.

Boot it into recovery from SDcard/ When it comes up just press the power button. If it reboots to the OS then it is working we just cant see the screen due to the screen driver.

I did, waited ~20 seconds after I got the washed out screen (to allow for scripts to run) then hit the power button to see if it would reboot. No response. Had to hold power button to turn it off, remove SD card, then turn back on normally.

OK maybe screen is screwed up but if you can see if the volume buttons move anything around we maybe able to make it work by pressing butons in a ceratin order. e.g. you cant see the menu but it may setill work.

                  try it
On first boot it's on the reboot menu just press power or home buttons (I do not know what buttons you have) and see if the recovery reboots tha tablet. If it does the recovery is working we just cannot read the screen

                  Bob
It doesn't seem to respond to the buttons at all. Besides, if it is stopping at the same screen, that means there is probably some kind of error, anyway!

Maybe you could have a look at one of the other ROM candidates we found.

OK well the search is on again then. We need to find a recovery that works on this.
W13 wont so we download as many as possible!

Here is what I want you guys to help with.

                    1) Keep the files from my tool on your SDcard.
                    uml_autoscript
                    update_root_ext3.zip
But delete uImage_cwm since that last one doesnt work.

                    2) Download any full ROM for AML8726-M3 to try it's recovery
                    3) Unzip or unrare it whatever...
                    4) In the unzip ROM kit you will see a file called uImage_recovery in the ROM kit.
                    5) Copy it to SDcard and rename it to uImage_cwm
                    6) Try again to boot into recovery and see if that new recovery works.

Hopefully you guys can find one. If you do use the menu to apply the update_root_ext3.zip package.

I'm looking at the contents of that set top box rooted recovery file I found; the "Factory_update_param.aml" file it includes contains:

                      --set_efuse_version="version=1,mach_id=0xb8e"
                      --set_efuse_ethernet_mac
                      --wipe_data
                      --wipe_cache
                      --wipe_media
                      --update_package=/sdcard/refee120710bgzp-120827noapk-4ethernet.zip
                      --wipe_data
                      --wipe_cache
                      --wipe_media

Along with a uImage_recovery file, the usual system and META-INF folders, and a recovery folder containing the ETC folder (installrecovery.sh) and a recovery-from-boot.p file.

Possible victory! Use the uImage_recovery from the file I linked previously (for the set top box). I have a recovery file from it and a list of stuff on the SDcard. Trying the .zip from Bob's pack now.

Crapola. It let me navigate the sdcard and choose the .zip file. Signature verification failed again.

Buuuuut, since the uImage_cwm file works isn't it possible to remove the signature verification on the recovery like they do with CWM and other custom recoveries for this sort of Amlogic device?

I tried the uImage_recovery from that ROM archive (renamed to uImage_cwm) and it simply hung up, like the first recovery I tried did. Had to reset to get it to boot up again.

Edit: Just tried it again to be sure. With the tab shut down, I insert the external uSD card, then press vol- and power at the same time and nothing happens. It looks like a brick at that point - the charge LED doesn't even light when it is plugged in! To get it to boot I have to remove the external uSD card and reset through the pinhole - then all is well again.

Weird, it's not hanging at all for me now. I have the files on the root of the microsd card and was able to reboot into a recovery and choose Bob's .zip file but it looks like it's still giving me the normal recovery 3e and signature verification fails. I even tried an uImage_recovery from clockworkmod6 for a Cyanogenmod10 ROM install on a similar device. which again booted into recovery but it looks like the normal device's recovery mode. I get an error about the "unknown volume for path [udisk/factory_update_param.aml] and "can't mount /udisk/factory_update_param.aml" but it still lets me run normal recovery commands including "apply update from SDcard".
