    Hi Bob,
I've been following your progress and appreciate the time you've been putting in on cracking the AML 8726 M3 root. Found a post claiming success. Not sure if this will help, but here is the link:

    Also,
Per your request for terminal/mount dump here is the data from my Nextbook 8SE with AML 8726 3M:

We can't write to /data/local/temp without root access. The crooks at Nextbook have even got that locked down!

for fun i emailed nextbook support and asked about using a 3g dongle, they said the device does not support em.

sorry guys, i won't be much physical help here on in, i had to give the tablet i was working with back to the owner, wish i would have found this thread sooner in my search.
As most of you know, I've been working on this, too. I got my Huawei E220 dongle last Friday but only received the right adapter cable today.

The dipsticks at Nextbook told me the same thing, but, SURPRISE! They are either WRONG or spreading DISINFORMATION to cover their ASSES. I know this because a USB memory stick shows up mounted in settings on my tablet, no problem. I haven't tried to access it because I don't know how to get to it!

You have to use an adapter cable that is set up for OTG (On-The-Go). That is why I had to get a different adapter cable - the first one I got did not work.

Here is the interesting part. When I plugged in the dongle using the OTG adapter it flashed green, same as it does when I connect it to my laptop. I also got a new annunciator in the status area, where the time and WiFi status are shown. It was dim, but it looks like a wireless signal indicator (bars) with a little "x" at the bottom of it.

I checked, and my modified init-pppd.sh had not run.

Now, according to this page, http://it-depot.net/pages/3G_Setup, when the dongle is plugged in, there should be a menu choice under "WIRELESS & NETWORKING" in the settings page that is called "Mobile networks". It was not there at first, but after 10-15 minutes it showed up! Also, I am now apparently connected to my AT&T 3G data network with a strong signal, and I can browse the internet with WiFi turned off.

Best of all, when I checked /system/bin again just now IT NOW HAS SU IN IT! And Superuser.apk is happily residing in the /system/app directory.

YAHOO, BABY, WE FINALLY BEAT THESE MFers!

Bob, if you are out there, I need to know what to do, in as much detail as possible, to get you what you need to cook up a new ROM. Then maybe one of the guys who bricked their tabs can debug it.

EDIT: DAMN! ISN'T ANYONE ELSE AROUND TONIGHT?

Great! I was hoping that init file would pay off! I've been tinkering with other avenues but getting nowhere so this is great news. We should be able to use the exploit to get a ROM dump or a way around the recovery.

Does that mean that Bob can't create a recovery ROM for you if I can get him what he needs?

Do you know if they have more or these tablets at Big Lots? They are out of the Nextbook around here - they said it was just a Black Friday deal.

Yeah, that was a nice find... I think you should get the credit for cracking this BEOTCH!

I'm dying to find out what to do next, but I guess it will have to wait until tomorrow.

from what I understand and what ive been reading, there are a couple of ways to unbrick a hardbricked amlogic tab, One is by a serial cable with usb and completely rebuilding from a serial cable,, way sloooow. another is the recovery uncompressess from the sd/tf card. you need four files, factory_update_param.aml, Uimage, u-boot-orig.bin and the update zip file,
Last time I was at big lots they had a couple in the case. If not I will wait until they show up again

Your successful test had me wondering if the tablet can be "tricked" into running that init file using a usb Wi-Fi adapter rather than a 3g dongle... I guess it would depend on whether android would recognize it at all and if it would then treat it the same as a 3g dongle since they're similar in function... I have a Cisco / Linksys usb Wi-Fi adapter at home but the otg cable I bought for my nexus 7 hasn't arrived yet so I'll check at Fry's or another local geek gadget shop for one and try it out. Might work!

Well, if they still have one in stock that is the way to go, I think. You only have until January 15th to return the thing for a refund, and I think that goes for exchanges, as well.

Yeah, the key is having the right adapter cable. But I doubt that the ppp daemon would start for a WiFi adapter. You might find that the USB WiFi works as an alternative to the internal WiFi, though.

I knew their tech support jerks were clueless when they answered my question about OTG. Unless they had specifically disabled it in software, OTG is a function of the chipset, and the AMLogic chipset apparently supports it. They are probably used to answering that question about the Rock Chip based tablets.

BTW, I put a link to the Huawei 3G dongle I bought on **** in a previous post. The seller I bought from is in San Diego - I got it in less than a week - you probably would, too. And it only cost $24.99, with free shipping. I'm looking forward to using it when there is no WiFi available, with the tablets and a laptop as well - my wife has unlimited data on her line.

What really suprises me is that not one of these hard drive clone companies have come up with a way to clone an android tablet. another thing is, why arent these tablets recognized as a usb hard drive once the nand is wiped, Kinda screwy to me, seems like it would be in the tablet makers interest to do something like this. My tablet is pulled apart right now on my desk, I want to try and jumper it to see if i can get into the hdd, then i could run a undelete partiton on it. but I know more than likely it wont work.. haha..
pull the nand off and reprogram it with an eeprom programmer .. lol .but i cant solder .. lol

I will try the otg cable to see if i can get it to see the empty hd and see if I can do a undelete partition and start from there. hopefully it will work.

I bought this one in november , thirty days to return it, I called nextbook and they wanted me to return it, I said no I want my operating system, I will wait for them to release a rom. Imagine if this was dell selling a microsoft computer without the ability to run a restore from the restore partition.. and if your hdd gets fried. the ability to get a back up cd. Lawsuits all day long. We should be able to install, uninstall anything anytime we want on a tablet, lap top or desktop pc.

This is very Important b-4 you do your data dump for a rom, Make sure you do a factory reset otherwise all of your info, wifi-setup, 3g dongle info, apps will be in the rom. Su binary will stay and you should still be rooted after a factory reset.

If you bought it on Black Friday (like me) or after, you have until January 15th to return it for a full refund. Check your receipt - it should have the latest date you can return it printed on it somewhere.

Mine says "RETURNS WITH THIS RECEIPT WILL BE ACCEPTED THROUGH 01/15/2013" at the bottom.
