    Update...

OK now I am having issues mounting UBIFS in linux. I found all the info for doing it but the dump is too large for the UBIFS MTD tools when it makes the NAND area in memory. So I need to work this out before I can get a system.zip done.

Too bricked? I do not think that is possible. From all I have ready you should always be able to unbrick via the sdcard method.

As for the new stuff coming out. Yes I have been keeping up on all that. Over the last year I have found that it is best to wait for the first round of new tablets coming from China, etc and see how they pan out for best features etc.

Are you stuck on AMLogic? Rockchip's stuff is still my favorite when it comes to performance, ability to always unbrick, easy of making ROMs, etc etc etc.... Maybe it's because I know rockchip really well.

the power light blinks on and off every second or so, then i get 3 or 4 short blinks then it goes back to regular blinking .. no backlight .. ill keep trying ,,

It will be ineresting to see what the new rk3188 will be like, I agree im a rock chip fan myself .. way easier to work with. . I saw the quad core, 8 core gpu and 2 gigs of ddr 3 ram .. Ill bet there really smoking fast ..

What are you using for system for this testing?

FYI, got the UBIFS thing figured out

          CRAP!!!! UBIFS sucks!

So it appears my version of Ubuntu (12.x) does not support mounting UBIFS

I have to install Ubuntu 10. Searched all over the web for 12 and ubifs and cant find anything.

Getting closer though... I do have it attached but just cannot mount it to copy the files out.

          I will get there.

crap, i just wrote a big long thing and it said I wasnt logged in , well here goes again ..

Im using the system files from the fire and the elf 2 .. I modified the system files with the build.prop .. in the sdcoevery there is a etc folder with the systen_recovery.. then it opens up another folder with a install_recovery sh .. I dont have the install_recovery_sh .. I opened up the install_recovery.sh .. theres a bunch of hex, or sha checks or something like that, not sure .. heres the file if you want look at it , maybe why its not working .. not sure ..

I looked at the hex in the bootloader img annd i noticed the u-boot is dated i think july or aug of 2010 .. (amlogic M1) .. I also noticed in the amlogic source code that the m3 and mx files reference the m1 alot..

heres a refrence unlocked u-boot ,, you can actually read it in notepad ..

im going to post this and continue with another post so i dont time out again ..

              Freaking Awsseome man .. GO BOB .. UBIFS .. Woohoo .. !!

heres the way the process works for the sdcardrecovery .. turn off the tab .. it gets recognized as a m3 device .. install the driver.. it gets recognized as a worldcup device, put the sdcard into the tablet .. hold down the vol- , then press the power button , hold down for 15 or 20 seconds .. the android guy will appear , he will dissapear then reappear .. then recovery pops up .. get into the sd recovery then choose the update zip file .. update .. the tab will turn off .. take out the sdcard from the device .. turn on the tablet .. let it boot normally .. if it hangs or doesnt boot all the way , go back into recovery and do the update zip again ..

for me i dont have the worldcup driver .. I just have the lib_usb , after I wiped the nand is when i lost the world cup driver and it turned into a lib_usb driver.. then the light went from bieng a solid light to a blinking light. why i was thinking of getting a serial port card .. http://makeorbrick.blogspot.co.uk/20...#axzz2GneJVoYU ..

I just wish someone would come up with a modprobe linux operating system for tablets with a regular linux installer .. I miss my lilo boot .. lol

think I might look at some arm linux distro`s, see if i can get the bootloader back from installing from the sdcard ..

                  Hey, Bob...

I know you are busy, but I have a couple of questions. The kernel is like a PC BIOS, right - it handles all of the hardware interface tasks so that the actual system software is more or less generic? Is it part of the system file I uploaded, or is it in one of the other files?

If it is part of the system file (the one you are working on now), then the guys who are bricked will probably have to wait for you to finish messing around with it before they can do anything, right?

Good questions guys and you are learning but these questions are NOT a simple answer!

Eegor, your dump of system is a UBIFS image. I just have to get the files off of it in linux. I am still having issues with Ubuntu 12.x I am making a VM now with 10.4 which many have reported works.
However failing that, I may ask you to dump system using ADB and a copy command.

I am working on this hard and learning all the time which I LOVE! But I will tell you this... PAIN IN THE ASS stuff on AMlogic! I am not giving up though so stay tuned. I will keep you guys informed.

Only thing that upsets me... Is the people that know this stuff DO NOT GIVE AWAY INFO EASILY!

So the learning process is much harder. Seems AMlogic is like iOS... Secrets are kept and the guys that know it well, hold the info and do not share it

In the end I am learning the hard way! So be it....

Trust... when I learn all this and it works... I WILL BUST this BS "secret shit" and share it all!

Just found this .. Ubuntu 12.04 arm-linux-gnueabi- toolchain fails to build U-Boot (uboot-next), so
you’ll have to install Sourcery toolchain instead:

Thanks for the help but I have already been there. We are not trying to boot from kernel UBIFS not boot linux and mount the UBIFS image. UBIFS is a NAND memory system. Well I wont go into it more as much to learn but this is not the goal.

                        I refer to this post:
All this is done on Ubuntu 10.04Extract!1. Create folder to mount in.mkdir /mnt/ubi2. Load modulesmodprobe mtdblockmodprobe ubimodprobe nandsim first_id_byte=0x20 second_id_byte=0xaa third_id_byte=0x00 fourth_id_byte=0x153. Validatecat /proc/mtddev: size erasesize namemtd0: 10000000...

But there are many others. All of them use other versions of linux other than Ubuntu. I have gotten past this to the point of mounting but my Ubuntu 12.x always comes back with UBIFS "unknown file system" when I try to mount it. I am close! Just need 10.x as it appears 12.x has a problem and they dropped UBIFS support. AGAIN.. I am learning this JACKED UP file system that no one uses anymore!

What I want to do is mount the UBIFS image (the dump) and copy out all the files so I can make a ZIP package. If one of you figure that out before me... share it!

Ubuntu 10.4 is now downloaded. I will create a VM and try again tomorrow.

I am DONE for tonight after working on this for 4 hours...

                          UBIFS can BLOW ME!

Sheesh.... AMlogic needs to start using a standard file system that now support NAND flash memory easily!
Yaffs, Jiffs, Biffs, Ubiffs, etc, and all that arcane shit needs to go way of the dino's!

EXT4 if blocked correctly easily supports NAND memory... All this other OLD file system crap is just CRAP OLD SHIT!

It's funny... I got a PM tonight from a guy trying to make a Rockchip MK808 ROM and he said "When I make the new YAFFS file system it will not boot". I had to tell him he does not know what he is doing! This is NOT a phone old school ROM. Rockchip uses ETX4! I have not heard back from him yet but YAFFS... REALLY?

People coming from phones do not understand things have moved on to better linux (or Android) supported file systems!

                          YAFFS makes me LAFFS

                          UBIFS just pisses me off!

Thanks for your continuing work on this. I've been keeping tabs (pun intended) on this thread so that I can root my kids' tab and get Google Play on there. Also having problems with Netflix. Will rooting fix that? Having Netflix is one of the main things my kids use it for.
