I unbrick m8s HOW TO included - now i need firmware ROM M8S model: KCA-003

the problem is that my box is bricked and i cant enter into recovery mode so that i can flash it

the box boots with blue light but freezes at the beginning of mbox logo

i try to find any compatible rom in imageXXX.img format to flash it via usb.burning.tool so that i can have recovery

from floder TWRP : TWRP M8S N200C BY HIPISXBIT.img ( rename it to recovery.img and copy to sd card )
from folder FIRMWARES : M8N-M8S_N200C_Amlogic_11152015.zip ( firmware )

unpack M8N-M8S_N200C_Amlogic_11152015.zip, and find u-boot.bin and copy to sd card.

copy M8N-M8S_N200C_Amlogic_11152015.zip to sd card.

power off device ( unplug power cable ), put sdcard to device, press av pin and power on device, wait 5 sec and relase av pin.
When TWPR loaded and run, wipe cache , update system file M8N-M8S_N200C_Amlogic_11152015.zip

if TWRP not load use boot sdcard maker to create bootable sdcard, and try again.

'cause apparently it's the same on my device, i was wandering if the vendor of my M8S used this same ROM, i would like to know where this ROM came from to better understand what clone i have (the type of recovery i can use, the rom that i can flash, etc...) thanks!

Are You sure your device have OTG-USB ?

the problem is i cant find any rom ,the original halts randomly ,others brick it

now i have installed openelec and everything runs smoothly and with no problems at all

Redshift could you tell me the steps you took to get the box working again? I have tried hipisxbit methods but nothing has worked. I accidentally flashed my M8s with OpenELEC-AmlMedia.arm-M8S-6.0.0.2.zip (woops) and after that i have no blue light now. Any help would be appreciated.

First of all you must understand that not all m8s's are the same, there's a ton of hardware variations out there, so something that works for me doesn't necessarily means that it will work for you etc

to the point (follow the instructions to the letter and read it carefully)




[No blue light or no boot logo or no signal or desperate last measure procedure]

1 install the latest USB_BURNING_TOOL and the lib something drivers to your pc and after all is done restart

2 run USB_BURNING_TOOL

3 connect a male to male usb cable to the back ports of your pc

4 insert a toothpick to the av port and hold it until you see connect on USB_BURNING_TOOL

5 connect the other end of the male to male usb cable to the outside usb port of the box

6 when you see the connect status on USB_BURNING_TOOL release toothpick

7 some boxes dont require power cables to be connected ,others do ,experiment yourself

8 load an img file you know that works with your box ,try all img's for m8s you can find ,it doesnt matter if it boots normally or its a working rom or it is 100% compatible to your box ,all it matters is that you have a mathcing bootloader and you can enter twrp (i used the below)

9 flash it as normal ,no force setting or anything else ,if it fails retry the procedure once again

10 when it's done (100% and green color) disconnect the usb cable from the box

11 power it up

12 press stop and close USB_BURNING_TOOL on your pc

13 wait until it enters android or if it stucks give it a minute and power it off again

[twrp procedure, install a non signed rom]

1 format an sd card to fat32 and copy u-boot.bin you know it matches your box or better from your original rom and a twrp version that also works with your device (again experiment with different u-boot.bin's and twrp's until you find a combo that works)

2 insert the sd card to the box

3 insert a toothpick to the av port and hold it until you see twrp screen

4 power it up

5 once in twrp perform an advanced wipe, selecting all except sd card

6 choose install ,select from the drop down menu the sd card, flash your rom zip and then reboot

ONE LAST TRICK, sometimes you can repair a non booting or stuck freeze at boot rom or you will be able to access twrp procedure or normal recovery by just fixing the bootloader

[Fix bootloader procedure]

1 format an sd card to fat32 and copy u-boot.bin you know it matches your box or better from your original rom and the below file

2 insert it to the box

3 insert a toothpick to the av port and hold it until you see the M8S square logo the second time (the box reboots its self the fist time) ,release quickly the toothpick

4 and wait until the script copys bootloader ,it restarts once or twice and then goes no signal or it boots normally, give it a couple of minutes at least

5 in the case of no signal or hang, power it off and on again

now you maybe have a normally booting rom or at least a working twrp procedure to continue experimenting or trying





***sometimes the flashable twrp rom zips are zips inside the rom zip files you download
a flashable twrp rom when you unzip it must contain DIRECTLY at least the below folders and files

META_INF folder
system folder
bootloader.img file
logo.img file
recovery.img file

inside those zips there is a file (META-INF / com / google / android / updater_script) that safeguards that a rom is suitable for your machine and newer than the rom it is allready installed ,sometimes you have to delete the first 2 lines of that file with notepad++ so that you can flash the rom

in my case OpenELEC-AmlMedia.arm-M8S-6.0.0.2-update.zip works flawlessly except it sees only 768 mb ram BUT when i use http://amlinux.ru/image/6.0.0/OpenEL...Plus-6.0.0.zip (ms8s+ build ) of which i delete bootloader.img and replace it with the bootloader.img of the first openlec rom EVERYTHING WORKS PERFECTLY INCLUDING IT SEES ALL RAM




all the above are general guidelines that worked for me, of course you must experiment until you find what it works for your case

all the above are suitable for soft bricks only

i am not responsible for any bricks caused by following this guide, given the messed situation with these boxes everything you do ,you do it with your own responsibility

if you have a well working box and os (android or openelec) dont flash it further except if you need a feature that comes with newer versions badly, save yourself a lot of pain ,this is my advice

one final word, if you succeed and bring your box back to working order, please help others in the community with your findings ,we all struggle to get these damn machines working under the sun ,we all came here and read other peoples guides and knowledge ,spread the love mate

Okay thanks redshift, I will give it a try later on! It is weird that i was running stock android and I wanted to install openelec so i flashed my M8s with OpenELEC-AmlMedia.arm-M8S-6.0.0.2-update.zip then when it was done flashing it reboot and now have no blue light on power up. From other posts that i have read, people are able to flash that file no problem. Hopefully I can bring it back to life with your method, thanks! Also do you know the difference between OpenELEC-Amlogic.arm-M8S-6.0.0.2.zip and OpenELEC-AmlMedia.arm-M8S-6.0.0.2-update.zip cause the AmlMedia file is what killed my box.

i dont know mate ,its a trial and error situation ,as i told you all of these boxes look the same but there arent ,different wifi modules ,different ram chips ,ethernet circuits

probably people download stock roms and compose different builds from those roms ,different bootloaders ,wifi drivers ,you get the drill

in my opinion if you wanted the box for kodi dont bother with android ,openelec runs much faster and stable with minimum temperatures and resources and the best part is that you have a lot more free ram at the end to assign it to kodi as buffer (advancedsettings.xml) so that you can avoid stuttering etc

Secondly, not everyone m8s has OTG -USB, then you must use an SD card burn methods . There are many versions m8s , if it works do not change the software!
Not all methods described herein operate on each m8s .
