Xenchz reported that when shorting the pins that a sound was heard.

Is this representative of the experience of those that are able to follow this procedure successfully?

Is there a general heat issue with this box or something only seen with a few of them?

Could shorting the wrong pins at any point kill the box?

I havent had that issue and was trial and error shorting first time and Kevin found the pin combo. I think it may be driver related. Try reinstalling them and see if It helps? (Its always possible to kill it no ?

      heres the twrp methodBlueshadmentioned

Many devices now mk902ii/Shield/Mk68 /Ugoos/neox5/minix5 (yes they still work lol) mk80 no it doesnt work lol.

          Sad :/
Please try the method above and install twrp and then you should be able to flash the new firmware via recovery.

Ok, after endless trials, I did it
            Possible reasons of unsucces:
            - the firewall was blocking port - tried another computer
            - the pins to short are different - I didn't pay attention which were right, because was very happy that burn tool recognise the box

Ported Kevin's version, will check iif there are overheating probkems. Come back to Scooter's version later.
A good experience and many thanks for help!

So, with Kevin's port the overheating problem doesn't disappear, would try Scooter's latest release.
I would give you a feedback in several days

Anyone actually get twrp running on this box? I can get it to boot to recovery with the S905x.twrp.img but I have no keyboard, mouse, or remote once its booted

Did you use the method on the you tube link? Try changing ports for the keyboard too

                      Non-rooted firmware so I can't use Rashr.

Tried all 4 different USB ports but no luck...

                          Figured it out

                          http://forum.xda-developers.com/andr...overy-t3454549

                          IMPORTANT:
You have to use USB mouse to have input.
You can remove USB stick after opening TWRP.

Missed the part that says MOUSE!!! lol

So, quick feedback on latest port:
                            - the same issue with google play: after flashing rom, it works, but later or after reboot playstore stops working. (Installed aptoide lite, downloaded playstore again - it's working)
                            - don't get what means the line on top "New york" (editable) "query"
                            - remote works, but: when switch off the box, the only way to switch on is to plug off, plug in power cable. The same issue is when you switch off tv and tv box hibernates
                            - didn't try kodi, I do no use it
                            - less overheating, would add some heatsinks and maybe cooling fan in the future
                            - didn't downloaded OTA update, not sure if it would help anything
                            - subjective: prefer blue led over red, then switched on

Please post a photo of the build number. I think you may have missed a step or two.
1- Newyork - just click on it and put your city in it.
2- Playstore re tested 3 boxes working. (but if you missed instructions including the factory reset may not work)
3- Ota fixes playstore and Kodi.
4- Follow steps in first post.
5- Can install Twrp and re flash easier now.

Looking into brick issue with boot.

                              Regards.

Will try to find some time to create something similar to the FTV setup where we have a boot menu.

If the meantime someone else wants to give it a go by all means.

This is a boot menu that will allow you to select if you want to boot a kernel or reboot in to recovery. I highly recommend everyone install this so you always have a way to boot in to recovery in case of problems. Just like recovery, it will...

Since TWRP works this will help to make flashing the roms easier incase it bricks for whatever reason.
