Thank you for the info. Yesterday I managed to put new kernel and clean OS inside the stick. All the problems with black screen gone! Full HD resolution working perfectly!

My colleague collected all the files and info from here. I've used this configuration (didn't work on windows 8.1 pc, had to use windows 8):

• Software: RKAndroidTool (flash tool v1.37)

Connected my CX919II stick to pc while holding "update" button", installed rockusb drivers. Deleted everything from stick using "EraseIDB" button.

Then it was current configuration to flash new kernel:

• Loader: RK3188Loader(L)_V1.24.bin
• Parameter: 4GB
• Misc: from "NHR_17_20131012\rockdev\image" folder
• Kernel: kernel_lon_1080p_1.6cpu_v2_base.img
• Boot: from "..\rockdev\image" folder
• Recovery: from "..\rockdev\image" folder
• System: from "..\rockdev\image" folder

Maybe this info will be useful for somebody.


Surprisingly everything worked, no errors Stick booted, looks stable, not hot. Didn't liked original launcher, it lags a little, but something like Apex or Smart launchers works just fine. What laucher do you use?

I bought myself CX-919II because of this community. Been reading through all posts in this thread and this is finaly something for us novices to understand clearer. Thank you for your effort RimVel. Aswell others too (Neo, Henrik, Lon, etc) for their work. This is truly a great device. If one can and knows how, a lot of people will dare and do this.
RimVel, would you be so kind and find time to write step-by-step procedure. Or as tutorial in own new thread? Surely will be greatly appreciated by many people outside the community and those affraid to mess something up (f.e. wifi, and have dual antennas for nothing).

Ok, let's try. This is something what I've done:

1. Find a computer with Windows XP, vista, 7 or 8 (8.1 is not working) and USB 2.0 port (3.0 not working)
2. Make sure all the other USB devices, memory cards, etc. are disconnected from PC.
3. Download the package with drivers, software and required files from here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/44bbnuhb0r6ignt/CX919II.zip
4. I'd advice to extract it to the root of your hard drive (C: or D:, etc.), not deep in folders. When extracted it should be like C:\CX919II\... (i will use this destination in examples)
5. Take your CX919II device, find "micro usb -> USB cable" included in package. Locate "update" button on the device:
   
6. Connect micro usb cable side to the port marked "usb" in picture. Connect other end to your PC while holding "update" button pressed. This is very important part - to keep this button pressed. This is required because then device goes to recovery/flash mode.
7. You can release "update" button now
   Your PC will try to install drivers for new recognized device, but probably will fail in the end. After that you need to update drivers. Go to My computer, select Properties, open Device Manager.
8. You will see device with question or exclamation mark. Click on it, select "update driver software", select "Browse my computer for driver". Locate to C:\CX919II\Driver\x64 or x86 (depends on your OS)\ and select folder of your PC OS version. Something like this:
   
9. Device should be recognized as "Rockusb" something.
10. Go to C:\CX919II\RKDevelopTool_v1.37 and open RKAndroidTool.exe
11. If program says "Rock usb recognized" you can proceed to the next step. If it says "no found rkandroid..." try going through steps 6-9 once more.
12. Press "EraseIDB" button to erase everything from device. This should take up to one minute and you will see "Finished" or "Done".
13. Now you can install new kernel and software. Select all the files 1 to 7 like this:
    
    Carefully check if correct files are selected!
14. Click "Run" button and check the status window on the right. It will flash all the files to the device. This will take 5-10 minutes (i think). Once it finished (status in right window not changing anymore) you can disconnect device (safely remove usb) and try connecting it to your TV.
15. You should see "Neomode" boot screen and Android device setup.
16. If it's not booting - check all the steps carefully once more.

I have J22 Stick, but can't get it recognized by Win7 x64. Before plugging i hold reset button, then i connected to HDMI and device was in Recovery mode, but Win7 didn't make any notification. Is any other way to flash ROM ?

But maybe there is a error.
When you plug usb cable you must plug cable in usb port on side, near antenna and micro sd.
so you go in loader mode for update firmware.
If you plug usb cable in rear usb, you will go in recovery... but it is no good for flash all firmware
Only in this mode work in my styck.
So you try in all mode...maybe there are some difference between stick.
normally the stick go in recovery if you plug the cable in power usb
and go in flasher mode if you plug in OTG usb

Thank you! You right, usb cable have to be inserted into OTG micro-usb, not for power port.
I flashed neomode ROM and looks all fine except screen resolution. Anyway this is not my aim to use TV-stick.
I want it to run as webserver, so after playing with Android ROM installed Picuntu 4.5. Sadly, but wifi isn't working here, full dmesg log shows some tries to bring it up http://paste.ubuntu.com/6460369/
Is it possible to get firmware for wifi and adapt it for Linux ?

Ive got a strange problem with my device. Sometimes my wifi speed is up to 15-20 mb/s and the other times its 0.30 mb/s. Im usimg the 1.7 neomode rom and the 720p kernel 1.6 ( domt know the full name). Is anyone else experiencing this or does someone have fix?

For wifii you must try different kernel...
For linux you must see in right post in the forum, it is possible!

I own a j22 and I followed your advice. This yielded a device booting into Neomode's OS. So far I have managed to connect an ordinary USB mouse.

However, this is about all I have been able to do with this firmware. Whenever I use the mouse to start a program (e.g. browser or Google play) the device reboots immediately. The device refuses to boot properly when I connect any other usb device. It also tends to reboot after connecting other usb devices.

So I tried to move back to the stock firmware. I was assuming this is "cyxtech_rk3188_dongel_ap6210_130629_EN.img". After flashing this firmware the device seems to boot as stock Android again. However, the problems described above persist unfortunately. It is still impossible to connect another usb device, apart from a simple mouse. Starting programs causes the device to reboot....

Does anyone have any ideas about what I am missing here?

P.S. wireless internet can successfully be enabled from the "cyxtech" stock rom that I am running now.

Update: I just managed to connect a wireless Mele F10 pro mouse by first booting my J22 and then connecting the Mele usb dongle. (I cannot connect the Mele mouse beforehand, because this would make my Android stick reboot perpetually.)

The wireless Mele mouse seems to be working fine. However, I am unable to start up any program with it because the J22 reboots immediately after starting a program.

Could these problems be caused by the two apparently different hardware versions of the J22?

What is your power supply? Maybe it's too weak to power up all the devices. It should be at least 2A.

I am using 2A indeed. The strange thing is that I didn't experience this behavior before flashing my J22.

The device has become quite useless now.

Today i did stress test on J22, according to it power usage go above 10 Watts, so stock power adapter 5v 2A won't be enough in case powering other devices.
My test being carried out on nginx+apache webserver running on J22 stick. I put website under 25 concurrent connections a time, load average 8 - 10, 100% CPU usage according to htop.
Moreover J22 being connected to SSD drive where website stored on, no other device connected except working wifi.
