    Hey there,

Feeling like a noob now, but I've had a couple of Android devices(like smartphone or MK808B) and haven't experienced any problems with rooting them or trying multiple custom roms, but now I'm ashamed that I failed at the very beginning. I wanted to give this rom a try, but I cannot figure out how to get into flash mode. I'm not sure where the reset button is placed, but i tried using button that's under the hole described as "Mic/Fn" and some strange sign that looks like R to me. I tried to open it, but it's tight constructed and I didn't want to damage anything, so I'd like to ask You what should I exactly do?

    Thanks for any help

The button to but the device into bootloader mode - ie - ready to be flashed mode - is indeed the hole by the MIC/FN - just remember - to plug the small usb into your pc at the same time as holding down the button for 4 or 5 seconds - you do this at initial power on - with no other cables or usb sockets supplying any power - it should only be getting power from the small usb / pc cable.

      - it is real easy to dislodge that little button - so don't force anything - but the simplest method is to install a restart/reboot apk that has the ability to reboot into bootloader mode.

good luck - and I have had mine open - and the case is a snap open / close design with no screws holding the case together - but unless you have dislodged the button, then you really don't need to open it. Sliding a thin flat head screwdriver into the corners then prying each side up a bit at a time with some force eventually got mine open.

That is a small problem, the bigger problem ist Movies over smb.

I'm tested purexbmc and xaf xmbc with MxPlayer, BsPlayer, Archos Player and Rockplayer.
        with extra HW Codecs
Any players can't play the mkv movies over smb.

What can i do, to play mkv 720p/1080p 5.1 dd/dts over smb?

        Thank you

        Hey Oetzi,
i'm playing 1080p mkv, avchd's with 5.1 DTS/dolby over smb from my synology nas. I setup smb direct in xbmc. But my box is connected with cable lan, so i don't use wifi, do you use wifi or lan?

About 2 months ago I got one and started flashing roms - worked great - but could no matter what I tried find a 6 / 8 or 10 parameter file that would work with this box - the 1, 2 and 4 parameter files all worked fine. So to cut a long story short, I eventually figured out the solution was actually to switch out the bootloader from the standard RK3188Loader(L)_V1.24.bin to version V1.20 - this worked, but my problem is that I just got in 2 more boxes for the family - and now all of a sudden I have the same issue.

It's really screwing with my mind - what used to work - does so no longer - the same box - the same flash util - same rom - same parameter file - but all it does is hang at the loading screen. If I switch out the parameter file for the 4 then it all plays nice and boots etc, but 6 / 8 or 10 does not.
I am using the - Ugoos_UT1_RileyFinlessROM_v1.0a - rom and this parameter file :-

Or more to the point this is the one I would like to use or more over the 6gb version. I am posting this here because I see mucho discusion about the CX-921 in this thread and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue and if so does anyone have any answers. I gave my original box away and thought cool I will just blast my CWM image back onto these new boxes - but nope I can not get them to partition in the same way i.e. a 50/50 split of the nand.

The new XBMC D version of the rom mentioned in this thread works great with these new boxes and the remote works with no problems by the way - all thanks to walter.

Below is a copy of the 4gb parameter file that works on my CX-921 with the riley rom with no issues, but when I swap it out for the parameter file above - it just hangs at boot. Answers on a postcard please

Have you ever tried to flash finless minix rom with 6GB parameter file, or any other ram with this option? Don't change anything, just try to flash a rom with bigger parameter file. Just flash it right away just to test if device will boot up.

            thanks but

I just tried finless 1.7 with 8 and 4 - 4 works fine, but 8 does not - there was no 6 available in the 1.7 rom set - so back to square one again - if you can link a 6 parameter file then I will give it a go.

I was wondering if you could upload the uncompacted version of this image (pureXBMC_V1-1-1d_CX-921.rar)
so I could try it on my setup with different parameter files?

            thanks for the help

Hi Rafeekey, let me tell you what I do: I unplug both the AC adapter AND microUSB cable from the unit, press the reset button inside the mic hole using a toothpick (or a paper pin, ... whatever slim pointy thing you have nearby), and holding that button down (you can feel and hear it "click" when pressed properly) I plug the AC cord AND microUSB cable connected to the PC back into the unit. You might, however, have trouble with your PC recognising the unit and installing drivers for it - I can't help too much there, I managed to solve that problem a month or so ago, when I needed to update a different RK3188 thnig (a Prestigio tablet), and I only remember it took me a long time and was anything but straightforward. However, it seems that once your PC recognises one RK3188 thingy, it recognises all of them.

Walter77, thanks a LOT for your ROM, now I can finally get a 5.1 AAC audio played as a 5.1 AC3 on my receiver. I don't actually have CX-921, my unit is called "Egreat U8", but it seems to be basically the same thing. That being said, I can confirm that on the "d" ROM and in 1080p resolution, I was able to play:
                BDrip as follows:
                1) Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1920x800 23.976fps 2766kbps
                Audio: AAC 48000Hz 6ch 228kbps
                - no problem
                2) Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1920x1080 23.976fps 2651kbps
                Audio: AAC 48000Hz 6ch 225kbps
                - slight delays / skipped frames in fast scenes (i.e. not entirely smooth, but still pretty watchable)
                3) Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1920x800 23.976fps
                Audio: DTS 48000Hz 6ch 1536kbps
                (a 10 GB rip)
                - some 40 minutes into the movie (cca 90 minutes long) the playback stops and exits into the file list. It happens in all of my possible configurations> external USB HDD plugged in the unit, external USB HDD used as the storage for FTP/SMB server created by my router (TP-Link TL-WDR3600). The playback is fine on my PC (via the SMB and drive mapping). The disk has NTFS file system. (this, however, seems to be a very odd way to encode movies, I needed it mainly to check the playback of uncompressed DTS-HD sound)

                So there go my observations

And one more thing, connected most likely with the fact that my Egreat is not exactly your CX: the ethernet is not working at all. It is working, however, with Ugoos_UT1_RileyROM_1.1 (I wasn't able to flash the Riley/Finless ROM v1.0a). I have no idea how difficult that would be, but if you could find the time to put the ethernet driver from that Riley ROM into yours, that would be just awesome for me

Thanks again for your great work!

Have you tried just to flash just the kernel from randys ut1 1.1?
You can try to test kernels from wasser too, just to test if ethernet will work this easy way.

It's funny - 1.1 does not work for me and 1.0a worked just great. This hardware is so annoying to work with one little change at the factory can result in endless head scratching

Oh by the way walter I love the minimilast approach - but please include an onscreen reboot program in your next build.

                        You sir are a star

This worked - 8*8 is now working - I would love to see your parameter file and know how you did it, I would also love a 6gb parameter file as well - but for right now you have made my day - WOW.

                        • THANK YOU.

It's funny - 1.1 does not work for me and 1.0a worked just great. This hardware is so annoying to work with one little change at the factory can result in endless head scratching

Oh by the way walter I love the minimilast approach - but please include an onscreen reboot program in your next build.
                            Thanks!

You can reboot by keep power off on your remote pressed or you can go to android settings/PUREXBMC/Advanced/Reboot Bootloader ( for flashing another rom ) or Reboot Recovery.

                            Is that what you need?

You can try to test kernels from wasser too, just to test if ethernet will work this easy way.
well, the UT1 1.1 ROM is just 720p (according to XBMC) in my case, so that is not an option. I will try the Wasser kernels now, and maybe the 1080p one from the UT1 1.0a, god only knows what exactly is the problem there...

Just did a short wifi/lan test.
Nas is connected over xbmc upnp/dlna or smb.

1080p 8Gb MKV/AVCHD files from nas played fine with wifi or lan, no dropping frames

1080p 22GB BD Iso is stuttering over wifi, plays perfect over lan.

I think everything over 10GB streamed over wifi will not play smooth.
