Ugoos UM2 only stick with Non-RK3188-T?
Hi, everyone. I'm noob here, and has been reading this forum about a week now, and learning status.
It seems that RK3188 without T is better choice after reading this board.
Geekbuying seems that they updated their website stating most of stick form ones with RK3188T 1.4Ghz. Ugoos UM2 still shows it has RK3188 1.6Ghz, but I don't see much devs working on UM2, aka 809IV!?.
If this is only stick form with RK3188 non-T, do you devs think more custom ROM for this stick in future?. Since noob like me depends on great dev people here, it is a big purchase decision factor.
It seems that UM2 can use ROM for 809iii, etc, but UM2 has IR port, 2 full size USB port. Do I loose some function when I use custom rom for different model with same CPU, WIFI chip, and graphic chip? Can anyone has UM2 confirm UM2 be able to stay off from blacklist? Custom ROM they use?
Advises are greatly appreciated!!

I think they are all the same chip... BUT some pass the stress tests and others don't, those that dont are locked at the lower speed and market -T, obviously some of the chips that pass the test will also go into the -T pile to make the numbers up when not enough failures, so you will find that some over clock and some don't...
Same as Intel, in the old days they were are fabricated as the fasted chip and then graded, the ones that qualified for the top speed were used as that, then they were graded down from there and sold as different speeds, but some basic models were able to clock back to an amazing clock speed as they had to use the best chips to make the numbers up of the lower speeds, some were not able to as they were the failed ones...
luck of the draw unless you use a quality manufacturer that has decided to use non -T's like MiniX, mine clocks to 1800 without an issue and is very fastyou pays your money and you get what you pay for.... unless you were lucky

I think this will be a huge of Work.
I have done a Rom for the MK802IV with AP6210. There are Models out with T and a non T CPU.
Make my 2.1 Beta Rom with an Old Loader Firmware and the Kernels from the Marvin Tools works on the T Models too and can be overclocked.
But when you have a very Bad T Model you will get only 1.6 or 1.7 Ghz not more.
What we need is the Kernel Source for the T Models and see what we can change.

try RADXA img with MK802IV
I have similar problem with mk802iv from banggood. I tried numerous distrous and kernels the same blinking problem, and after few blinks the system reboot sometimes from boot sector sometimes from SD card. It is quite random. But one file worked. The latest ROM for RADXA (http://dl.radxa.com/rock/images/ubuntu/latest/) the system is stable but have no wifi although I had not try yet to export firmware and modules from original system. Flushing the single img file to NAND is easy. Can you try it and let me know if it works for you. I am not sure where the clue is, I hope someone will find it out.Last edited by jp.mk802; 07 February 2014, 22:49.

It's a common practice with CPU/GPU manufacturers, ie AMD and Intel as two examples. They will make only one design for a series and then after their production run is over... each chip is tested to see how fast it goes without errors and they then mark/set those for that frequency. This increases their salable yield and keeps costs down. If say a quad core chip fails on one CPU... they disable the bad core and sell it as a triple core. The same holds true if a chip fails at 4Ghz... they may sell it at 3.9Ghz or less.
The real complaint here has been that many of these have been sold to customers as RK3188's... not the T version that they are marked as.
Now on the otherhand... Rockchip is saying the main difference is that these aren't made with the retina display in mind so they are specifically for TV Sticks and not phones or tablets that need that feature. I think that is only a half truth myself... I think these chips simply failed that test ( and the speed one ) so they clocked them down and used lower power so they do work ok... but aren't telling us the whole story simply to appease us.
Really... we don't know everything at this time... so there is bound to be speculation until the whole truth finally comes out.
