I don't have a lot of experience here, but I've read that if you flash the stock ROM and stock recovery back onto your device, you can get your OTA back. I just picked up my Nextbook last night, and I plan to play it safe and keep everything stock, not even root. The website says July 15th will be the update. I can wait a little over a month.

Yeah... I figure modding the current ROM isn't worth my time with an update on the way... not to mention the support effort for those who don't install correctly...

Will wait to see how their KK ROM is (if it actually comes as indicated)... maybe most of us won't want much more than Root access then...

Thanks for everything shaunmt. I hope you plan to work on it shortly after the update, and I hope I can wait that long.

Probably... I'm pretty excited to work on this one too!

            Damn you stock ROM!

So I just installed as many of my apps as possible and even moved as many as possible to the internal nand storage. I am out of space already. This will be a long month or two.

Yup... don't know why they make data partition so small on these...

Personally, I don't even want the internal SD partition... I'd rather have all that space as data and use an external SD only.

They also make the system partition too damn big... what is the point of so much extra space in a read only partition?

I agree with everything you just said. I had this same issue on my old N70HD before I installed andronoob's 3GB ROM.

The website says it supports up to a 64GB SD card. Do you think that's a hardware or software limitation? If it's software, do you think it'd be possible to make 128GB cards work? I'd love to put as much of my music locally on my Nextbook as possible.

Isn't there a way to make your sdcard and ext of the data partition by formating it to ext4 and mounting it?

                    I have no idea...

I don't think so... at least not without modding the boot image...

I think the main problem with this is that Android isn't designed to support apps on a "secondary" SD card... which means you have to either swap the internal and external cards or get rid of the internal SD card entirely so you can use a bigger external SD as the primary.

KingoRoot works for sure. That's how I rooted mine.

Getting the correct drivers installed was the challenge. I don't recall how I finally got the correct drivers.

I do think it involved turning my firewall / antivirus off to get the installer to work correctly though.

After a few days with mine I finally decided to root yesterday. I can confirm Kingo works, it calls the tablet by the wrong name tho meaning my wife Windows 7 machine (I have a Mac) must have grabbed drivers for the previous model 8 inch Nextbook. It worked tho.

I used moborobo + kingoroot to root my tablet. @Ferbrizio, how are you doing it? From what I remember I installed the proper driver using moborobo. After the driver is install, try using moborobo to install some app just to make sure it's working. Then open kingoroot (don't close moborobo app) and root the tablet. Let me know if this method works.

I haven't looked very closely at it... but I bet the name is wrong in the build.prop file. Nextbook is very sloppy when updating / modifying their code.

Most Nextbook build.prop files I have seen still contain a line referring to a Prestigio PMP5580 (also made by Yifang and sold by one of their subsidiaries).
