[ROM] OpenELEC for Amlogic-based TV boxes (M8, MXQ, TV110, MX2/G18)

easy enough to do, so worth a try. i flashed from a stock china rom straight to codesnakes openelec but the stock one i had let you pick 720 1080p and 2160p in the menu.

Putting Finless 1.7 on first seems to have worked with a brand new box.

Will have to try the same with the old one that I can only select 720p on.

Issue I'm having is with m8n and Codesnake Helix OE
So all is good aside from 1 thing. When hardware acceleration is enabled content either cannot be seen at all and the m8 logo is displayed (can hear audio) or content is obscured by a large black box that covers almost all of the screen.
Major issue for me, as software acceleration sucks, bigtime and produces slightly juddery playback. Anyone else experienced this?

5.0.3 cause an M8 overlay on my G Box Q. But it only happens on 1 out of 5 TV's I have. It also happens in dim mode also.

Yesterday I installed 5.0.3 on my M8N, works even better than the Android/XMBC crap installation it came with. Even CEC works, my TV switches on automagicaly when I switch on the box and after that I can control the box using my TV remote. Love it! Only issue is DTS/5.1 passthrough to SPDIF. But this never worked before...

passthru for DD AC3 and DTS has worked in all the builds. i think there are issues with dts-hd still tho , make sure you've enabled decoding and passthrough in settings>system>audio output. if you still cant get it to work then it must be a conflict with your audio receiver, its possible if you are running HDMI to a TV and optical from the TV to your AV you might not get passthru, in the USA some TV's block DTS passthrough due to licencing..

I put em8_finless17.zip, factory_update_param.aml and the recovery.img from Codesnake's OpenELEC ROM on an SD card and did the reset button process to put Finless 1.7 on a brand new box that originally had MBOX branding on the boot screen. Once Finless was on it, I changed the main display setting to 1080p then flashed Codesnake's OpenELEC ROM in the normal way from the OP. This was all using Codesnake's 13.2 Gotham ROM btw, not the newer Kodi ones.

Might not work for you, but worth a try.

Hi guys I just install the kodi on my new m8 s802 but I have a small issue the choice for resolution is disable I can not choose between 720p & 1080p

Hey Dave, thanks for the info, I tried got the 1080p set with Finless 1.7 zip, but when I loaded Codesnake's OpenELEC ROM with Kodi 14.1 it reverted to 720 and grayed out was there. Will look around again and see what else I can try to get 1080p selectable on this M8. Thanks once again.

That's annoying. It might be to do with the ROM that's already on there when you buy it then. Weird how it's seemingly predetermined.

Same here. I switched back to OpenELEC for Amlogic 5.0 RC3
