thank you codesnake my m8 box updated fine my mx2 did not update first time but when i put the zip file into the update folder again it updated without a problem.

I just tested 4.95.1 for the first time on mx2:
dvd ISO doesn't work

I have downloaded the ZIP, unpacked to SD-card, installed using toothpick method, and I'm on Kodi. I don't know why you have the problem.

Updated my M8 and as expected some of the addons I have do not yet work on Kodi. Can I downgrade using the update.tar of the previous version?

You can try, but I'm not sure of the result. Most likely you'll downgrade but lose your settings.
