Newbie orderd cube 9x and needs help with the flashing world

Hello,
I'm ordering a Cube 9x today.
After doing some research I've decided it's probably the best Chinese tablet today and will get me the most value for money under 250$.

From what I understand I should stay away from the black version, as it doesn't get the new 2.0 firmware. I'll order a white 32gb and hope it'll be week 26+.

I really need some help getting into the whole ROM flashing business, I'm an IT professional and I know my way around software and I've been jail breaking iPhone since iPhone 3, but I never had the pleasure of flashing an android device yet.

Is there any chance that someone like giouncino will make a newbies guide for how to get a new cube 9x from its original version to the new v2.0 with 4GB apps and without all the Chinese apps? if so, I would really appriciate it, and I bet it will be super useful to everyone visiting the forum,


I also have some specific questions:
1. What is stock recovery? is this a recovery mode you can boot into? if so, how?
2. Do I need to root the device before I can update its firmware to 2.0? if so, can someone link the appropriate tool?
3. When you say I need to rename the file to update.zap, which file is that? is it the file named U65GT_V2.0_update_aatt_20141115.zap you linked in this thread? or is it a file inside this zip?
4. You keep talking about TWRP, do you mean TWRP manager app, or TeamWin TWRP? In http://teamw.in/twrp_view_all_devices cube 9x isn't listed, which version works with it?
5. You said that I need to reflash TWRP recovey after the update, why is that? won't it just get the tablet to its original OS?
6. How do I backup the original OS and system data in case something goes wrong?

Thanks to anyone willing to help me out, I'd appriciate it if you won't send me tons of link to generic FAQs for Android flashing, since cube 9x isn't a poplar device and I'm not sure how these FAQ will be relevant.

Hi,

I received my freshly new black 32gb u65gt tablet and i would put a custom rom. The Rom already installed seems to be a v2.0 rom (see pics) !


Can i put your custom rom v2.0 safely ?

This is interesting, it must mean that the new batch of tablets coming out of the factory is already updated to v2.0.

Xfifi, you do not need to reflash the whole rom, you just need to flash TWRP recovery (lepi_2810 is perfectly working) to be able to install supersu binary, then if you want you can also flash ebr1 and ebr2 to have 4gb app space (you can get both files in any 900supersport custom rom kit)

changing to update .zip means the whole v2.0 zip file i downloaded right?

Oops ! I tried but it misses scatter file for my stock rom. Where can i find this file ?

However, i have big problems to connect the tablet in usb. I have installed the drivers but the tablet does not recognized by win8.1 win7 64 bit and 64 bit (on other laptop). I plug usb cable and i hear the usb device recognition sound in windows and also a second sound disconnection. It alternates between the 2 status indefinitely connect / disconnect with battery charging icon showing.


My tablet is in developer mode with debugging enabled for usb.


Maybe the usb cable ? I 've tried with another usb cable and i's same issue.

On win 8.1 you need to disable digital signatures for drivers.

Digital signatures are disabled. It's the first thing i did when i installed the drivers.
I don't understand why the cube want not connect correctly.
