Successfully updated to 20170707 OTA. Thanks for Magendanz link. It fixed the issue with MX Player and unexpectedly disconnects due to unsupported HDMI resolution. However, the Youtube icon dissipated. Any ideas how can I bring it back to the apps list? I have tried to reinstall Youtube without success.

You might reload the image file he had done which was the first file he leased. That's what I loaded and YouTube worked fine. I just don't like the OTA files. Not technical enough to know the difference but something must be lost in translation or the way the files are loaded with the Amlogic USB burning tool. That the best option to get a rom on these boxes or in fact any of the boxes. The approach with the spinning android belly in my opinion seems to always have more apps issues.

The Amlogic burn package (.img file) is what they use in the factory to load the firmware on a virgin box with eMMC reset in Mask ROM mode. It includes the partition map and ALL partitions, so you know you're starting with a clean slate. Even the block-based OTA updates may not include all partitions, and they can't change the partition map. Also, the update is done in recovery, so you have a bit of a chicken and egg problem with the recovery partition. System OTA updates will often include the recovery.img that they'll flash from system before they hand off to the recovery partition to flash the rest.
I prefer burn packages for recovery because they really do wipe everything except the keys. In addition, there are checks in the uboot code to ensure you're not installing on in compatible hardware. In general, these are better than the property checks in the update script.

My sequence goes like this:
1. Install a new recovery: TWRP (but get a USB remote keyboard first because the standard remote controller won't work in TWRP).
2. Make a nandroid backup (in case something goes wrong)
3. Root the M8S using the supersu zip file in TWRP.
4. Check if everything is allright otherwise restore with TWRP
5. Do a full update using TWRP (not the OTA one).

I usually make sure I have a bootable SDcard with TWRP on it and backup onto the SDcard, that way you can easily recover if you brick it.

I'm just on my way home at the moment. When i get there i will update this post with all the links you will need to compleate this task.
OK so this is how I would do it (there are other ways I'm sure)
1) Download Burn Card Maker from here:
http://chinagadgetsreviews.com/downl...er-v2-0-2.html
(Have a read of the "How to use Amlogic USB Burning Tool" section)
2) Download the Amlogic burn package (.img file) from #129 post on this forum
http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-...230#post662230
3) Run the Burn Card Maker and create a bootable Micro SDCard with the 20170707 Image.
4) Insert the SDCard into the M8S Pro and power on the unit with the recovery button pressed in.
5) This should boot and automatically start the install process.
6) Let this finish and it should reboot at the end of the process.
ALL FIXED !!!Last edited by aspittles; 19 August 2017, 05:06.
