But I know that the Rockchip chipsets are quite different than Amlogic so not even sure TWRP with them is even possible. Took me a good long time to build this box restoring
everything and getting it working with my setup from MXqPro4k so would be the $h1Ts if it got hosed and I had to fully rebuild it again....
BTW, I use SIMPLE LAUNCHER and migrated that to my new box...Works great on the H96Max and the only thing I don't have is the wallpaper (Maybe because I migrated it).
I'm using an old version of Toolbox Rom that allows freezing of applications you don't want running (requires root)...So I froze Media Launcher just to make sure that doesn't come back.
SIMPLE LAUNCHER is not for those that like fancy application launchers but for me it's exactly what I like. Just my main apps with large icons (Up to 18) on the main page and then you can
click to see all the other apps on it's other page. That's all it does and that's all I want it to do....

first you have to flash this TWRP.img file with AndroidTool 2.35 or higher to your Box ,
only then you can boot to it , by a special Reboot App or pressing the Reset Button
short while on start and leave it , hope this helps , the MediaLauncher and more not
needed Apps can be fully uninstalled if not needed , with root ,

Not understanding what you mean?? If you flashed this image to the box would it not overwrite the contents of the H96 and make it unbootable?

it is a TWRP.img file , correct , this small file only take in the place of the stock Recovery ,
it not delete your other Data , if it fits no Bottloop will come up , but until now i not heard
about a RK3399 TWRP Recovery , so best before u start backup all your important Data &
Apps , if you have root u can use TitaniumBackup , and copy your Android Data OBB Folder
to a SDCard , of course the TitaniumBackup Folder too , so you can use it later to restore ,
use EasyAppBackup App for backup only the Apps , to SD , so you must not go online to
download TB and other needed Apps again , ask if u need more help ,
greetings gefattern

OK...I do have all apps and addons backed up...
However for now I think I'll wait until the next major firmware update (Maybe Oreo in the future).
Then I'll try it at that time since I would be reinstalling everything anyway so if it doesn't work
then no big deal. Right now my H96Max is working absolutely great for all the apps and KODI
for what I use it for...Compared to what I had been using for the last 2 years this box is supersonic
and I'd hate to mess it up right now.
Could you point me to the burning utility to download so I have it for the future. THANKS for your help and information.

Well....After saying I was going to wait....My inner GEEK got the best of me and I flashed the
recovery_rk3399_box-110418.img to the recovery of the H96Max (RK3399).
I tried first using FLASHIFY.....It said success flashing...
Tried to boot into recovery then but just got the H96 Logo and then it would shut off after a while.
So then I flashed again with the OFFICIAL TWRP APP....Rebooted and same thing..
When trying to go into recovery I now just get the H96 Logo and eventually it shuts off....
So for whatever reason it seems that this image does not work (On my box anyway)...
Is there anyway to get the stock H96 recovery back without flashing the entire H96 image??
The box still boots fine....It's just my recovery that is gone.

u can try to unpack the Stockrom with latest AndroidTool and then flash the
extracted Recovery , but not sure if AT can handle 7.1.2 ,
i hope u unchecked all others and only flashed the Recovery , good luck with
your next try , otherwise you must flash complete new ,

Well I didn't see anywhere the files were unpacked...
I tried to do just the "Upgrade" setting with AndroidTool but it didn't seem to make
any difference....Still overwrote everything with a fresh installation.
But it was a good exercise in reloading....Reloaded everything in only a couple of hours as I had
all backups staged and I was familiar with Nougat now. Up and running now
and everything working (including the recovery menu)...
I wish the heck that H96 had made it easier to boot from a SD card like the MXqPro4k so it
would be much easier for TWRP and also for LibreElec...I have both those booting from an
SD card on the MXqPro4k. Maybe something for a future firmware update.
Anyway very happy with the H96Max(RK3399)...I don't see myself using MXqPro4k much anymore.
The H96Max is just too F-A-S-T!!!
