I'v the same/similar issue with my X99;when I play movies/clips from my ext.HDD(Toshiba Convio1Tb)>>via KODI/MXPlayer or such another Player too...
but mine issue not with HDMI Cable,when I go to playing movies or clips internal settings(such as Audio or Video settings Section) than when I started
to adjust some of values than movie/clip stopped and on the screen warning>>>"USB device mounted" WTF
and than returned to Main Menu!!(Device Launcher window)!!!

RK3399 seems handshake issue with a lot of programs/applications etc., might be Android 7xxx issue(I never tried 6xxx) or something unknown happens

For RK3399 at present "The reality" is only one point;"Picture Quality" thats all or you can add to this "Fast Device"! so let say Pic.Quality+Fast Device thats all

FYI;"Kodi Player" way better than MXPlayer!! so you no need to installed MXPlayer!!
And also internal Player even better than MXPlayer!

I am currently running that update. Like i said, it runs well on my box execpt of the matter i described above.


My Bad... i am running the update released on may the 5'th of 2018.. i am getting my firmware updates from chinagadgetsreviewsdotcom.

Hi everyone. I have this device and I am trying to run some app on it but the app prevents me with the message of "this app does not run on rooted devices". I tried to unroot the device using an app but it damages OS and I had to reinstall firmware. What should I do. How should run the apps. Thanx.

Hi. I received box from Amazon and it came installed with firmware 20180525 but I would like to install 20180502 instead
I have used burning tool for amlgic but this is first rockchip device so have a couple quick questions about procedure

1. Power adapter is not connected during update right? Only male to male usb?
2. HDMI does not need to be connected from tv to box during update? Only male to male USB from computer to box. Then after upgrade tool says upgrade complete, you connect box to TV and wait for it to load up and finish

I have read different ways to upgrade rockchip devices but just need to make sure I do it proper

So this is how i do this on my windows pc running on windows 8 64bit. :
1 - Connect USB male in the Blue usb port on your box.
2 - Grab a toothpick and be ready to press the reset button hidden in the av output before connecting the other end of the usb cable to your pc so you can run the update.
( I use Driver Assistant v4.5 installed with administrator rights together with Factory Tool v1.45e also installed with administrator rights) .Once you installed the driver you open up factory tool software and change the language to English. Then you click on the firmware tab and load up the firmware you want to update to.Once its being opened you have to hit the Run tab. Once the firmware is running you should press and keep pressing the reset button and connect the other end of the usb cable to your pc while the other end is already plugged into the BLUE usb port . If you did it right the new firmware should be downloading into your box.As soon as you get to 1% you may let go of the reset button After it reaches 100 % the box will check the firmware and once again you'll have to get to 100% . After that, the big button in the upper right corner should be green and you should see an success message . If all went well you should stop the running of the firmware and then exit factory tool software. Then connect the box back to your TV and plug in power and hdmi . If you did everything right it will take about 5 minutes until you get to see the homescreen.

Success!

also i should mention, firmware 20180525 had horrible video quality for my tv. the picture was dull and blurry. the 20180502 firmware is absolutely clear using YUV444 8 or 10 bit now.

just wondering if anyone uses HDMI - advanced settings because even moving the contrast up a few notches makes picture significantly clearer and doesn't cause any blooming effects in the white levels

my tv is professionally ISF calibrated and picture is very nice so i made sure to look for any diminished detail in bright scenes and i couldn't find any. in fact it actually brought more detail out when moving the contrast up a few notches.

i did not adjust brightness, saturation or tone because they were fine as is. adjusting brightness up a few notches wasn't bad but in the end i just put it back to default

i really hope next update keeps the YUV and RGB options. terrible mistake to remove them

Then i got me some heating conduction pads like this :

The blue pads i cut them in shapes coresponding the size of the of the visible chips on the board and i "glued" them over the chips.

I find this stock firmware the best one released so far. The box works very smoothly on it together with all the upgrades i mentioned above .
