      1) I don't understand why I need to do this? I don't mind doing it, but since I'm new to android it might take me a few tries to figure out lol. I'm assuming by market you mean the play store?

      2) Also, do I need a TWRP specific version for m8S pro? where should I download from? I'm assuming I have to sideload it?

These are the last stock firmwares for Mecool M8S Pro tv box. On your box you should have installed one of them. Otherwise noone knows what is your box.

I found a video, it used a different box but said: hold the reset button with a pin until it boots into the recovery screen, and go into 'apply update from ext', select the twrp image (zip file) you gave me (from USB). Then tick all partitions (back up everything). I don't have to do a data wipe of any kind at any point? (I haven't actually used it to watch anything so have no personal data) Is that all correct?

Also where can I find AIDA64 and how do I install it (sideload or from play store?)

Rename the file into recovery.img and put it in the root of a flash drive or sd card. Hold the reset button and power on with incerted flash drive or sd card. You will enter into TWRP automatically.
Get AIDA64 from Google play store.

              I did it, it's M8S_PRO-NMF26Q-20170524.163713.V0321

Let me know if everything is ok and I'll make a backup. So I don't have to do a data wipe? really appreciate the help.

In this case you don't need to make a backup. Straight do the OTA UPDATE!

Here is mine. interesting that AIDA64 says that the box is rooted but root checker says no. Is this normal?

The same for you - try to make the OTA UPDATE by your choice!

This is an OTA update for the stock rom, it would be nice to be able to integrate the patch to the ATV rom.

I did it and it's up and running, thanks dude! So am I right in assuming that it's best to make a backup via TWRP the way you described just in case anything goes wrong in the future?

Also, the only problem is that the remote control has a 'mouse' button so I can use the arrow keys to control a pointer, problem is it doesn't work 80% of the time. I have to press the button around 6-8 times to make the pointer appear. Should I get them to send me a new one or are they all like this?

Get a wireless mouse and forget about the remote (change the batteries)!

Can I go back and forth between stock, nano and TV with OTA UPDATE process? Any suggestions on NexusTV vs stock? Which one are you running?

@supashaka Get something like Logitech 400 keybord with mouse pad. This this is what have.
Did you go with TV or stock version?

To be honest, I didn't really understand what my choices were and what was the difference between them. It would be useful if you or someone could help explain what the differences actually are for future reference lol??

I used 'M8S Pro TVStock Nexus ROM' The annoying thing is there is hardly anything available on the play store, but everything else is good.
