if I'm' out of Kodi I'm getting 55 Celsius
Closed Kodi 30 minutes ago, and sits since idle on the Android desktop, but temperature stays at 67°C.
With Kodi running it goes to 80°C and stabilizes there.
Rge question nobody has answered yet is if this temperature is sustainable for a S912 processor.

My boxes stabilize at 80°C. I have other boxes with Android 7.1 who go to 83°C and then completely lock up.
I solved that issue by flashing a custom rom with Android 6.0, and now those boxes don't over heat any more.
The reason that you lose internet speed has probably the same reason, that your CPU cores are dropped.

Fit that heat sink Properly with the proper stuff, and get some larger feet to get it sitting a little higher.few mm
if you Understand thermal dynamics (I don't fully but), heat rises, as it rises it pulls in air from some place
Lack of, or limited holes/vents on side/base it's just a box getting Hotter as it cant pull air in and heat can't get out
Bigger holes in the Base, drill out some the side
A fan is the best if you're in a Tropical location, or laptop cooler underneath

Best bet might just be a fan from one side, blowing IN towards the other side. I'd hate to make the vent holes larger, but might just have to.
Good little box btw. The remote control is crap. But, the Rii 8 keyboard sure makes it really nice to get around.

Should it be safe to just pull off the heat sink, because going under it with a cutter knife I'm afraid I damage anything that is invisible underneath.

But if you go the fan way it will do as is just more holes Base and the air circulating.
Moved the heat sink a bit to the back so that it has more exposure to the weight plate, since it sticks about half centimeter over it even now, and also moved the "rubber" between the heat sink and the weight plate in the right position.
Put the heat sink back in place with paste instead of double sided tape.
Gained about 2 degrees lol.
