ok, back again. everything was going good till today. system got really laggy, then went unresponsive. no big deal, held down the power button and turned it off.

gave it a minute, and then booted it back up. got to the Laughing Lady bootup screen, and stayed there indefinitely. left it setting for like half an hour. nothing.

so i booted into recovery, wiped the media and cache, then did a factory wipe and recovery. rebooted, still hung at the Laughing Lady.

Formatted the SD Card, put Shaun's ROM, Recovery, and Root file onto the sd card, booted into the mod recovery, flashed the ROM, rooted, supersu, everything fine. but now some of the apps i had installed before aren't working, namely Blackmart. Keeps crashing, and Adfree hangs at the detecting hosts menu. what is different?

btw, my model is the may 2013 model.

Re: Amlogic Next8HD8G (NX008HD8G) Modified Recovery - Stock Rom & Flashable Root

The version currently posted is an older revision. We have identified a few problems with it affecting app availability and causing app crashes. I have a dump with a newer revision that seems to correct these issues. I plan to get it posted sometime late tonight.

Here is a screen shot of the files i have on my sd card.

theres yer problem bud. the only file you unzip is the mod recovery. the other files are TO REMAIN ZIPPED.

            should look like this:

ok, start fresh, use your computer, NOT the tablet to format the sdcard. click the Device Defaults button, then make sure the Quick Format box is UNCHECKED. then Start the format.

once completed, unzip and move the uImage_Recovery file to the card.

then move the Rom you downloaded from the site to the card.

Put the card in the tablet, and do the VolUp+Power boot up.

select apply update from EXT>Update from sdcard>select the ROM.zip

wait for it to say completed, please reboot, then do so.

in order for wifi to function, you might need to power down the device, then power up normally.

                  Berenost is correct.

You unzip the recovery download and put the uImage_recovery file on the external SD card.

You DO NOT unzip the ROM download or the Root download. You put the .zip file(s) on the SD card.

The recovery system will only display .zip files because that is the only type of file that could possibly be flashable.

Also, you might want to wait a bit now, as I plan to upload a newer kernel and system build version later tonight.

                    I agree.

FYI. Do NOT open the ROM .zip file or the ROOT .zip opening them can break the Android security file signature which will make them fail verification and the recovery will refuse to install them.

Which newer version do you have, April 12 or June?

While you are at it, how about removing the command to change permissions on /system/app from your root script. That way it will only add su to /system/xbin, change permissions on su, and create the symbolic link from the /system/bin directory.

                      Simplest is best!

The April 12 build is the newest one I have, unless you'd like to try a May build from the identical Prestigio branded tablet.

I'll see about changing the root package too.

The files appear to be placed on the SD card correctly now.

I'm out of ideas regarding why neither tablet can access the SD card from recovery.

                            Anyone?

Ugh.... I forgot how long stock recovery takes to flash an update... it's quite a bit faster in CWM / TWRP... especially if you skip the verification...

April 12 is good for now.

I'm still going to try to get another July built (June build) tablet from Walmart - probably tomorrow. If I can get one and get it rooted, I'll let you know so you can remind me how to dump the ROM files
