Enough to give boot ok. But when you open any application, it closes suddenly. I've looked and permissions are correct.

What's the secret? I used rktools in Linux Mint 15 64-bit. And I mounted the image system.img loop.
It may be that the permissions still aren't set correctly.

    Mount with this command:

    sudo mount -t ext4 -o loop system.img mntsystem

Copy the apk's with this command:

    sudo cp filename.apk mntsystem/app

    Set permissions:

    sudo chmod 644 mntsystem/app/filename.apk

    Unmount/Save:

    sudo umount mntsystem

Rather than delete the files...cut and paste them to a folder outside of the mntsystem. That way the files aren't left in the trash bin of the system (to open space for other apps).

Once the rom is made can we flash that custom kernel on the first page again? Or will it need twee king? Its made my device so much more use able.

        Cheers

James - when you did the kernel_cpu1608_gpu600_ddr720.zip kernel, were you running 2.0 or a 1.x version? I noticed the difference applying it to 1.9, but saw similar speed improvements when I finally installed 2.0 (after waiting for cache to repopulate). Maybe I just don't recall doing that kernel immediately, but after a day or two, I ran Antutu, installed the kernel, and re-ran without much difference in numbers for RAM tests.

The new stock kernel version ends with #371 and is dated 19-Nov and I see #353 and 28 Oct on my RR2.0 after applying the DDR update. Re-applying the kernel would likely lose anything that was changed between the two. I'd think it would be best to re-apply the script that changed the DDR timing to the new kernel. Randy would know best, but I don't recall him being the source for the updated kernel.

              How to make a rom

Hi Randy, ok I'll try that. I added the apk's I was copying the permissions using a reference apk

There were also tested to change nautilus in root mode.

Thank you! I will test, post the results here later.

I have 720 on RR 2.0 i noticed speed improvements and literally no lag or force freezes forcing hard resets. Its brill! So your saying The kernel would need to be repatched. Out of interest is there any adjustments you can make to make the speaker output louder??

                  Cheers

With each new release comes a new kernel. While Pipo does change things in the system and other files, their main focus is in the kernel. So, I would suggest applying the scripts to this new kernel when it's posted.

I'm putting the finishing touches to v2.1 right now before uploading...it shouldn't take me much longer.

                      v2.1 ready for download

I just finished uploading v2.1 which is based on official Pipo firmware dated 11/20/2013. I've started a new thread.

Have you tried big external speakers plugged into the earphone jack?
Sorry, no idea on built in speakers.

What I'm saying now is that I don't see any real difference in 2.0 and 2.0 with the patch applied. When I was still running 1.9test2, I saw a big increase in the Antutu numbers for two ram tests and improvements in other tests (but they were far less significant). This morning, I reflashed kernel from Randy's 2.0 and re-ran Antutu and get the about the same numbers as with 720 kernel flashed. That's around 1000 for RAM Speed and 2000 for RAM Operation. Those two had been about half that. Overall scores between 18600 and 19500 now. For all I know, that 720 kernel could have done something to DDR that somehow persists?? I'll save screenshots from 4 current Antutu runs and compare them to a run after installing 2.1. If that produces something that's close to what I'm getting, I'm not going to bother looking for a patched kernel. It is entirely possible that PiPo stock version was itself updated to 720 in the version that was used to create 2.0. Then again, maybe I need to wipe dalvik cache or something when I flash a new kernel. It isn't like I exactly know that I'm doing here!! I'll just watch 2.1 closer than I did 2.0.

AND - thanks Randy for putting a "new thread" message! It really helps.

                          Just download the file.
When you unzip it, you will find several files and folders, including a file called "First Time User Guide . . . ".
Read this carefully. Translate it if you gives you more confidence. Then carefully follow the instructions. If you have a problem, come back here.

So far no-one has bricked a Pipo tablet.

I have to agree. Let's see what they have done. Plus it's pretty "lite." Maybe post with and without' If not too much trouble. Also, thanks Randy for all your help. (Added that since its my first post but I've been around here for awhile.)

Some people who have a problem using one computer, find everything goes OK on an older computer. Maybe a friend, or at work?
