Thanks I will try it. My bet is its the signapk.jar that I am using. We shall see. Thanks for sharing.

FYI I took your test 3 apart and I see the .so file you replaced and yep I can see the NEO- check in there and that you edited it to GT-I. GOOD FIND!
I am a total XBMC n00b so I never would have caught this hardware decode thing.

All the same as test 2 except I have made it so that it will do the hardware rendering while on this rom without changing your build.prop and losing your play store functionality.

Let me know if it works.

Thanks Flumpster it works well... I loaded both Hub and Talk wizards and had no script errors. I tested a few movies and NAS performance and attached a log file here...

        Update finless rom with cwm

is there any chance when you could take some time and give a detailed breakdown (for several of us that are curious), as to the steps of how you have done this?

I am currently on Finless 1.7 with justxbmc apk V2. I have flashed CWM, but have never used it before for anything, let alone to flash a rom or kernel and would like to do this while retaining all system, user and app data.

Any help on this, much appreciated!
OK. First make a backup of rom with cwm with the way that you said killerdude.
Also make a backup all yours apps with titanium.
Make sure you have the cwm with kernel inside recovery (that is for safety reasons in case something wrong) from leolas here: www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?6805-cwm-recovery-for-rk3188
After that download the installable zip from here: www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?6928-Some-cwm-installable-zips
Reed the post, it is easy. Put inside the zip the boot.img and/or kernel.img and/or system.img WITH THAT NAMES.
BUT NOT THE RECOVERY.IMG and go to recovery mode with the way that that you said killerdude or with the reboot.apk of finless rom and choose reboot to recovery.
When you are in cwm choose install zip. If you have the zip to external sd choose install zip from external sd.
If the sd card is unmounted then insert again the sd card.
After that cwm format the partitions and after flash the images . It is a clean installation.
When the cwm finish then choose go back and reboot.
If you dont make in cwm "wipe data"=format data partition=factory reset then you will have all your apps.
If some apps have problem then use the titanium backup.
I forget to tell you to wipe both the cache partition and Dalvik cache.(Personally i make only wipe cache and everything is ok)
If you have serious problems (i dont expect that) then go again to recovery mode and wipe the data or restore the backup.
        Forgive my english.

          Passthrough sound

This might be a stupid question, but I couldn´t find a real answer in the threads. Do I need to patch libmedia.so to get passthrough working or is it included in the ROM?

The patched libmedia library is included in Finless 1.8.

flashed everything stock with 1080p settings running the latest nightly and 1080p videos were playing nice but there were hiccups here and there. Nothing major but enough to bother me. Took Molle's recommendations for the kernal and flashed kernel1080_cpu1704h_gpustock600_ddr667, no need to over do it, and now everything seems to be butter. I'll play some more videos to make sure it's steady but right now this combo over an smb drive runs great.

Just used the 'installable zip' method to successfully upgrade from 1.7 to 1.8. I flashed only the boot and system images as I wanted to continue using my own kernel build. In addition to and4468's steps I wiped both the cache partition and Dalvik cache before I rebooted from CWM.

                  Thank you Molle.

I do not know what I do wrong.
                  Clean install of Finless 1.8.
Sound Devices Manager set to "RK29_RT5616 PASSTHROUGH".
                  Downloaded SPMC 12.4.1 - LibMediaEdition_v1.5.
Sound setup to HDMI / 5.1.

No sound at all on this setup and my receiver just says "No digital signal".

Trying MX player now, and it says "Sound codec not supported: dts".

                  Really weird.

Tried a few other XBMC versions, internal players and... no sound anywhere through HDMI passthrough. This seems too much of an effort fiddling around with this, gonna try switching back to SPDIF instead for now.

Switched to SPDIF passthrough now and DTS and DD lights up right away in Internal player and 2 tested XBMC versions. MX I probably messed up the DTS codec install I guess?

Really strange. Is HDMI passthrough not suppposed to work ok just following the steps above?

Minix spent money to create this, so he just do not want all the other RK vendor to leech the work.
Just try to convince him to be open or find an agreement.
Thanks for joining us here koying!

Sorry about all the work on hacking your Minix XBMC check but people want it to work on my ROMs modified build.prop. Hopefully next BETA or release maybe we can work together on a check so it still stays only on Minix devices yet allows people to still spoof a different device? I am open to this if you like. I know another way on how to do it.

Just what I said a few posts back. I'm sure all Minix want is to prevent other RK OEM's to leech the work. He doesn't want to prevent custom ROM's to have it running on its devices.

If you know a way that satisfies everybody, shoot!

But please, do not deface the apk. For one, I consider it rude, but it mainly brings confusion, as the app signature is not changed. So we'll see even more clueless users coming to the XBMC forums

The defacing would have been my bad. I originally was only hacking it so I could use it myself but then seen that others wanted it who really are on Minix devices so was sharing my version.

The way I changed the lib would still not allow it to run on just any old RK Firmware as it is still checking the build.prop, it is just checking for this roms one now instead. It wouldn't even work correctly on the official minix release. The chances are the other firmwares are not going to be using that also.

I also didn't post it over on the K-R42 forums as I know you wanted it for minix only.

Apologies for the defacing. I won't do it again except for personal use

Thanks for that. Testing build.prop is very much basic locking, but, as I said, all those OEM are so generic it's hard to find something specific.

                              Hi Bob

Did you change anything in 1.8 from 1.7 with wifi moduls?

In 1.7 i find my 5ghz and wifi was stable and fast as a rock. In 1.8 it is not working good at all, i can not se my 5ghz wifi just standard and it is slow and buggy.

Just tried Finless 1.8 and the minix_XBMC_v3.apk

To me it looks ok, except for:
                                - 250ms lip-sync
                                - mpeg2 and interlaced streams (enigma2) sync and visual de-interlacing smoothness problems

True, the first can also be corrected in the advanced settings.

                                Regarding the second one...
Do you think the hw-decoding mali400 can handle this (e.g. like openelec and XBian on the Raspberry pi)?
I mean is it a matter of drivers?

                                TIA
