Why is it so important for you to remove it?
Simply ignore it if you don't like it ...
[Naturally is can be removed by altering the code. Maybe Randy or Bob can provide an answer to that]

I live on the eastern coast of Australia.
On GPS Test I am seeing zero satellites (zero available, zero locked in).
I have left the tablet outside for as long as I can, but so far I've only been able to leave it for about 40 minutes at a time. Otherwise it gets too hot from the sun, or it has started to rain (bloody tropical climate).
My understanding is that, even with a faulty antenna, the tablet will see at least some satellites.
Should I be leaving the tablet outside longer?
The only gps related file that I've been able to find in the tablet is "gpsconfig.xml".
Can anyone give me any ideas on how to activate the GPS or what could be wrong?

first download this file http://gllto.glpals.com/7day/latest/lto.dat and plase it in /data/gps/ folder that will give the gps access to the latest satellite orbit data.
Edit the gpsconfig.xml file, in the end of the file you will find some coordinates that are on the northen hemisphere, edit them to somewhere near you (it is documented that some gps have difficulty to pass the ecvator )
hop this will help.

the ro.rk.systembar.tabletUI switches the android UI between tablet and phone.
true makes it tablet while false makes it phone style
i`ll keep it tablet style

Not quite as many as my Galaxy S, but good enough for me.
Strange that it took so much fiddling before the tablet started to pick up satellites.
maybe something with northern to southern hemisphere.
