Oman, can you please hard code change the permissions in the next release in boot.img so that we don't need a special version of xbmc that asks for root rights. I really want to use the SPMC version. Thanks.

Dear Oman,

maybe the test file for the VC1-codec in my last post, was not the best example because of too much action and fast cuts in the clip and the 29,970 fps.

So I cut out a scene from an original BluRay stream with VC1-Codec (23.976 fps) without action scenes, which is not playing smooth like all original VC1-Codec BluRay streams on the box.

Hope you can confirm it… or better have a solution.

If this clip is not stuttering on your box, the problem is on my side.

No, this won't open any security hole, these permissions are just to make xbmc work properly, for video and sound. Like Koying said in another post, xbmc shouldn't need root permissions to work properly, it's just a media center.

So, yes, please modify the permissions so that any version of xbmc can be installed without asking for root rights. Otherwise you need special version of xbmc to work with s802 amlogic box.

it's actually a amlogic firmware flaw, these permissions are not even needed with rockchip devices, it's just changing a few needed permissions from 664 to 666 so that xbmc can work properly. i haven't had my rk3066 or rk3188 hacked as of yet. i really don't think viruses etc., are a real concern for these android based tv players.

I worked as a software QA tester for approx 5 years, so have fun with the regression and new feature testing, I'd be interested in how you automate testing on an android media box.. I'm guessing using commands sent over ADB?
