Hi all, I've been out of the game for a while. I was looking for a TWRP to run on M8S and it looks like people are having success with the MX III plus. I remember these TWRP files being .zip and I would normally run them directly from the SD card without actually flashing over the stock recovery but, it seems now they are .img files. How can I run these directly off the SD card? thanks in advance

The only recovery I'm able to get into with my box is the one you posted (put on SD card). I've tried many other from post #1 and none work, as they just end up booting into the mbox launcher.
TWRP would be awesome for this box as I don't want to play around with all the firmware instability there seems to be. I have two boxes with the exact same firmware and V8_8 pcb

Im trying to use TWRP 2.8.7.0 on an MXQ (all black). For exact details and board pictures see my post at http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-...520#post540520
I made a backup of the original factory installed rom using TWRP 2.8.7.0. Upon trying to restore the backup using the same TWRP im getting a "E:ExtractTarFork() process ended with error=255" on the system partition (even though the md5 appears correct and it backed up successfully). Ive googled the error message and im not getting anywhere. Can anyone tell me what this error means?
Second problem is I downloaded TWRP 2.8.7.0 from post 1 for mxq. Now this version appears to give the following error in its logs on startup on my box "unable to find partition size for bootloader" and "unable to find partition size for ubootenv".
Can anyone shed any light???
EDIT: Found a work around for ExtractTarFork error. It appears that the system partion im trying to restore is bigger than the partition im restoring too. So i changed the system.win to a tar.gz, opened it, deleted a load of apps that install on first boot and then re-tar.gz. Change back to .win and now working ok.Last edited by Dc0de; 03 December 2015, 21:20.

I have the same problem with my M8S problem as these guys ^ where I cannot get it into recovery. I have found ONE set of files in another thread that I was able to flash using SD but that's it. I cannot get into recovery this is SO FRUSTRATING. I have the M8 V8_6 board instead of the M8 V8_8 though. It looks the exact same however.
I copied recovery.img over to /storage/recover.img and ran dd if=/storage/recovery.img of=/dev/block/restore ;sync;sync and it says it completed in 2 seconds but Then what do I do? When I reboot it still goes back into Android launcher.

Can you show us a picture of your system board?

Given that it's a clone I'm not surprised that you you're having issues with recovery. Did stock recovery work before? Have you tried both versions of the N200 TWRP as well as the MXIII build?

Tried one of the n200 did not realize there was two versions. I think I have tried the MXIII twrp also. But I should mention that I have gotten OTA updater now to get the box to run recovery on selected zip file and it seems to be flashing. It's just I have not gotten openelec to work yet even though it seems to flash over.
