As far as I'm aware, mo's rom is based on HPH rom.
I'm still using latest HPH stock rom where you don't have that option.
Anyway, one solution is searching for Null Keyboard on Google Play store.
It's free and "fire & forget"
Yes, the tronsmart stock ROM has a setting under languages and input where you can tell it to use the hardware keyboard only, when it's available.

    I'll check that out.

    Thanks,

After that I flashed the v1.2 ROM as-is except for I used the kernel provided in the quote above. This worked, except that the remote did not work. So I downloaded the 110k4 ROM from Tronsmart's website and unpacked with the 2.3 tool. Next I replaced the RK3288Loader_uboot_V2.15.bin with the RK3288Loader_uboot_V2.15.02.bin from the unpacked 110K4 (probably doesn't matter, but I swapped them anyway), and I also replaced the parameter file with the 8GB one linked in the first post. Then I replaced the resource.img, boot.img, and misc.img with the ones that I unpacked and ran the mkupdate.bat. Still using the above kernel.img when I packed it.

I flashed the resulting update.img via upgrade in the 2.3 tool and now the remote works properly. Everything looks good so far. Haven't gotten around to testing CEC yet.

I have 2 questions @mo123. First, do you think that I could reflash your boot.img and get back your tweaks and keep the remote working? Second, The last link quoted above, is it just XBMC/SPMC plugins or are there some upgrades in there, too?

Remote should still work with my boot.img but with your kernel & resource.img from stock ROM.

Just XBMC plugins. It says version mismatch but just say yes everytime and it will restore all the addons, no other tweaks.
ROM v1.3 will also have fully working passthrough in SPMC, first RK3288 ROM to do so.

Oh, one more quick question (might be a dumb one?). How can I get the onscreen keyboard to go away while using a bluetooth or USB keyboard? I didn't have any problems finding that setting in the stock ROM, but can't seem to find the setting here.

You can change setting in build.prop to enable/disable hardware keyboard or enable a different one from the Play Store that you can hide.

Thanks for the hard work and for what seems to be a great ROM so far! I wish that the 1.3 was already out because I probably won't have this box when it does come out because it will be back to my customer. I do sort of wish that the ROM was all on one partition, but shouldn't be a big issue because my client is planning to connect a 1TB USB drive.

      ROM v1.3 is one partition.

Just being curious, but what sort of bitrate/resolutions are other people getting in the 10minute test video on Netflix with this ROM? I seem to only be maxing out at 1750 kb/s and 720x480 and it looks pretty pixely. I'm not sure if my customer will be too thrilled with that.

Will using the hide HDMI option make a difference here, or is that par for the course with android netflix? I'm having the same issue on my Galaxy s4 whether connected to HDMI or not. Maybe it's because I'm using an old 15" 4:3 monitor that probably isn't HDCP compiant right now? I will test it on my 46" 1080p TV tomorrow. Gotta get some sleep now.

      Cheers, and thanks!

Actually I am using your kernel (with ntfs, nfs, gpu pll 420, cam drivers, etc) I just replaced the boot image, resource image, and misc image from tronsmart ROM to get ir remote working. I will try with your boot image tomorrow.

Really sucks about the Netflix DRM crap. I guess our best hope will be widewine DRM and html 5 for chrome. I hope that will come sooner rather than later. I just tried with latest chrome beta and not yet working, although I did get an interesting pop up requesting me to give permission before Netflix would playback certain videos due to restrictions or something like that but when I loaded the page for the test video it still told me I need to install the app from the store.

I will post back tomorrow and let everyone know if your boot image and latest kernel are working for tronsmart r28 with working stock remote for those others out there with r28.

Is there a list of tweaks in your build image?

My dad is getting me a ubox r88 for Christmas, so I'll be looking forward to 1.3 ROM for that!

        Thanks again!

Have you tried Dolphin browser with addon pack(flash & other things)?
It can change user-agent to display websites(Netflix) like on an Iphone, Android or Desktop PC.
Maybe it will then not ask to install the app.

I just tried it with the non beta version of chrome with request desktop version ticked. It again asked me if I would allow to send a unique device ID to play protected content. This time it acted like it was trying to load the video then it stops with an error.

I might try a couple other browsers tomorrow. They must be html 5 for it to even have a chance of working.

            Cheers,

              Hotspot bug

Hello, I have a tronsmart r28 and i would like to also use it like a wifi router. So I configure the hotspot but when I use to much bandwidth the android box just shut down and reboot ! Is there a way to fix it ?

              Comment

Maybe the Wi-Fi chipset is overheating? You could try using a small piece of thermal tape (they come in little squares or in a big sheet that can be cut to fit) or thermal paste and either a small heatsink or a copper shim. I had this problem with a linksys wrt160n, and ordered the thermal pads bc I saw some others fixed theirs with thermal pad(tape) and copper shims but never got around to fixing it. I was just restarting it every few days when it overheated. I ended up replacing it recently with a linksys e1500 that I got for free from a client when I replaced the e1500 with something more heavy duty. I put dd-wrt on the e1500 and haven't had to restart it a single time since. It's extremely stable and been running now for weeks. I'm not using dd-wrt to increase the signal output above norma because I already get good reception at stock output throughout the house.

                Check out this http://toomanycomputers.blogspot.com...ution.html?m=1

You can get the thermal pads and copper shims very cheap on **** if you don't mind waiting on shipping from China (could be a couple of weeks up to a month or possibly more depends where you live). If you order domestically you can expect faster shipping but cost will probably be a little bit more.

Could also be a software issue, but possibly worth trying this. I don't know which system you are using, but if you crack it open, I'd check under the heatsink of the cpu as well and if it has a thermal pad it's probably a good idea to replace it with thermal paste because the paste will transfer heat to the heatsink much better than the pa. It's very cheap and readily available on **** and lots of other places, too. Even local computer/electronics store should have it(though **** is likely cheapest. I use this a lot so I usually order about 6 syringes of it at a time. I don't see much difference in cooling if I check temps between the cheap stuff and more expensive brand names like arctic silver). Thermal paste conducts heat much better than the pads, but is probably fine for Wi-Fi chipset. Especially since it's sticky and you need to stick something to it to dissipate heat(thermal paste is not sticky). There is a thermal epoxy which is permanent. I have not tried the epoxy, though, so I can't say how well it works. Hope this helps!

                Cheers,

Oh I just reread your post and saw you are using tronsmart r28. I dunno if they are using the thermal pads on the CPU as the r89's are or not but if I had it open I would certainly check.

To use the 2nd version of Ugoos UT3 with a fan, you will need to find the driver/name to make the fan fully compatible with a custom kernel. Maybe open the device and post the make of the fan if possible or ask Ugoos.
So, Yes or No, is 4k@60Hz possible on my UT3 4/32GB w/ fan?

@mo123 Can I just use the android tool 2.3 under download image to flash your boot.img on top of the existing tronsmart boot.img on the device or do I have to go through the whole process of using mkupdate.bat and flashing a single image again?

Yours is 44KB larger than the stock one, but I used your parameter file when I made the image before so it shouldn't overwrite any partitions or anything, correct? How about wiping the partition first? Is that automatic?

Off topic but has anyone found an accurate way to monitor the temperature on these?

                      Thanks!

                        According to this http://www.cnx-software.com/2014/09/...-r28-unboxing/
There is thermal paste and not a pad, which is a good thing. Although this is a beta model, but surely they kept this in the production run.

I guess if you pop the top you can let us know.

You will need to use a compatible HDMI v2.0 cable and use a compatible 4K TV.
Unfortunately not all TV's display all the resolutions.
The HDMI-IN port only works at 1080p@30Hz.

All the RK3288 stock ROM's come with that busybox.
Can include a new one, but will have no effect for 99.99% of people.
