Only way to know for sure.
I know new firmware added 4K 60Hz support which wasn't present in earlier firmware.

I had this problem with a linksys wrt160n, and ordered the thermal pads bc I saw some others fixed theirs with thermal pad(tape) and copper shims but never got around to fixing it. I was just restarting it every few days when it overheated. I ended up replacing it recently with a linksys e1500 that I got for free from a client when I replaced the e1500 with something more heavy duty. I put dd-wrt on the e1500 and haven't had to restart it a single time since. It's extremely stable and been running now for weeks. I'm not using dd-wrt to increase the signal output above norma because I already get good reception at stock output throughout the house.
Check out this http://toomanycomputers.blogspot.com...ution.html?m=1
You can get the thermal pads and copper shims very cheap on **** if you don't mind waiting on shipping from China (could be a couple of weeks up to a month or possibly more depends where you live). If you order domestically you can expect faster shipping but cost will probably be a little bit more.
Could also be a software issue, but possibly worth trying this. I don't know which system you are using, but if you crack it open, I'd check under the heatsink of the cpu as well and if it has a thermal pad it's probably a good idea to replace it with thermal paste because the paste will transfer heat to the heatsink much better than the pa. It's very cheap and readily available on **** and lots of other places, too. Even local computer/electronics store should have it(though **** is likely cheapest. I use this a lot so I usually order about 6 syringes of it at a time. I don't see much difference in cooling if I check temps between the cheap stuff and more expensive brand names like arctic silver). Thermal paste conducts heat much better than the pads, but is probably fine for Wi-Fi chipset. Especially since it's sticky and you need to stick something to it to dissipate heat(thermal paste is not sticky). There is a thermal epoxy which is permanent. I have not tried the epoxy, though, so I can't say how well it works. Hope this helps!
Cheers,
-SB

Use the second tab of the flash tool to unpack your kernel & resource.img from your stock ROM.
If wifi is not working you might need to flash your boot.img also.

Is way cooler than the RKM stock. One more thing is there a way to get the exact same backgrounds you show in the tutorial. They look very nice with apps. Thanks again.

Maybe IR signal could be a little bit stronger, but hey, for $25 it's good enough for me (considering all other crappy remotes I tried).
p.s. I'll post again if i can use it for voice input.

I received a Christmas gift from Google via FedEx yesterday, the ADT-1 developer kit which I applied for a couple months ago!
When I first plugged it in it updated to the latest OTA android L. First thing about it, I hate that the launcher will only allow apps to appear which have the required android tv intent. I found one other launcher in the online play store which shows regular apps (I think it's called smart launcher), but it looks like crap and the transition animations don't work right. The other thing I hate is no browser! I installed a couple of browsers but since the gamepad won't support mouse emulation natively (or touch emulation), I had to connect a mouse to be able to click anything in the browser. Next thing I hate is the included play store with only like 30 apps. I installed aptoide to circumvent this.
The BEST thing about it so far, it has Netflix DRM and in the 10min downscaling test ramped up to 5800kbps 1080p in less than 30 seconds. It's a shame we can't get that on these wonderful rk3288 devices. Antutu score around 37.5K, lower than the R28 Meta I have here.
The other bummer about adt-1 is a total lack of custom ROMs and kernels. Still looking forward to the R89 that I already know my dad got me for Christmas and mo123's 1.3 ROM!!
Cheers,
