CWM recovery for rk3066 devices.

ERROR not a valid update package !

I have a mk808b (RK3066) with the newest Finless 1.7 installed. I have downloaded the CWM MK808 RK903 file and have renamed it to update.zip. I put it to the external SD card and when updating I received a error on the screen. Error not a valid update package!

Rk3066 is the processor and main chipset, the difference between mk808b is the wifi chipset rk903 or mediatek chipsets. No problems installing it in this way. I suggest you download it again, if it fails again, try to install it by rk tools included in finless Rom, install only recovery.,

I will download again and try, how can I tell if I have a mediatek or rk903 chipset. Maybe I needed to download the Mediatek zip file?

I'm new at this can you walk me through step by step on how to install the recovery only from finless Rom. Thank you for your help.

Sure, I will try, to see what is your mk808b I post a guide to identify all the versions I have seen in forums, I will give you the link when I arrive home, but basically you need to open your device and take a look in your wifi chipset, rk903 is the "original" mediatek are the clones.

Tomorrow I will write a guide with screenshots and step by step how to use this. I hope to found any time, if tomorrow I can't the next day I will do it for sure

tork, if you installed the Finless ROM 1.7, so I'll assume you know how to do get into flash mode and also know other things.
0) Open ROM Flash Tool.exe
1) Enter the flash mode
2) Extract the recovery.img from file MK808B_CWM.zip, rename it to recovery-cwm.img and place it in the folder FinlessROM (this step is only to facilitate the next step)
3) Let marked only the "recovery" and set the path FinlessROM\recovery-cwm.img (see image)
4) Click Erase NAND (BDI). That part I'm not sure! Caution! You can delete your files!
5) And last click Flash ROM




PS: I did not by this method! And want to know if by this method step by step is as I described here! I have an MK808 with Finless 1.6 and the method used was the update.zip.

NO! Do not erase NAND, as that will remove your kernel, boot image, etc. Just do the dirty flash of the recovery.img by flashing ROM with only the recovery box checked.

Yes exglynco is right, don't erase IDB nand, the rest is very well explained :clap :clap

Tip for the mk802iiis users, if you want to backup to external sd you must first extract it and put it inside again. Otherwise you will have a mount error.
