I am using v6.0.3.1 which is the latest from the download site.
I had tried with the MK808B backing up and restoring from int sd and it works fine.
Tomorrow i will try to restore my MK808 using stock rom backup without the original nandroid.md5(actually with a nandroid.md5 file created using a md5 checksum software after deleting the content). Now after thinking about it i may ahve missed something previously. Probably the path to the backup folder was wrong thats why it could not be restored. previously i have the backuped stock rom in the renamed folder only. maybe it should be /sd_ext/clockworkmod/backup/stockrom_backup.
    will try it first.

when i did the mk808b cwm install using update.zip i got a dump_recovery.img file in int. sd root folder.
I suppose that is the stock recovery.img file.

For info, my stock rom is v4.2.2 and its now flashed to Finless 2.1. From Bob's readme file i am not too clear if i need to first reflashed it with Finless 2.1 using the original parameter file first before attempting to restore stock rom. He was saying he did some changes to the parameter sizes. Not too sure what is that?
    Hope i don't brick the mk808.
Does your CWM backup contain a folder called 'blobs' by any chance?

When I was using a ROM for the Archos 80 Cobalt created by supersport900 he included a newer version of CWM that used the incremental backup but I found that after a backup, when I went to restore, it didn't seem to restore the data image and I ended up going back to an earlier version to get it to work correctly.

Nope, no 'blobs' folder. i don't think its v6.0.3.1 does incremental backup. i still get the same folder and files everytime i backuped. the files are all similar in sizes.(bigger if i install new apks and smaller if uninstall some apks)

          system.ext4.tar.a
I have the same files too except for cache files, nandroid,md5 and recovery.log for my MK808 stock rom backup done previously which could not be used for restoring back to stock rom after flashing to Finless 2.1

My subsequent backup of Finless 2.1 have all the same files(13 files) and also cannot be restored.

I also cannot install CWM by using the update.zip from sd-ext method.

GOOD NEWS is I found out i could install cwm from usb stick using update.zip method.
There is a pop up message asking if i want to copy to sd-int. select yes and after that another popup asking if i want to install update. It installs and reboot to CWM.
So those people who cannot install from sd-ext can use this method from usb stick too. No need pc too.

          UPDATE:
MK808 stock rom successfully restored after reflashing to Finless 2.1 and stock rom backup with missing cache, nandroid.md5 and recovery.log files. This is how i did it:
          1. Have to reflash to Finless 2.1 but using 'parameter original' file-this is important
          2. Installed CWM using usb stick method
          3. Reboot to recovery using Petrus reboot
          4. Restore stock rom with an 'empty' nandroid.md5(your method) and without cache and recovery.log files
It will restore boot.img, kernel.img, system.img. At restoring data files it stopped part way and the CWM menu pop up. Waited a few minutes and seeing nothing happening selected GO BACK and Reboot system.

The stock rom booted up without any problem. Only thing is the apks 'short cut' in the start screen is missing. I supposed this is because data restore failed. But at the apk drawer the user installed apks are there and functioning properly. So it seem only the 'short cut' at start screen failed to restore.

Used it for about 4 hours after restoring and did not find anything wrong with it. So concludes that restore to stock rom is successful even with missing cache, nandroid.md5(original) and recovery.log files.

Thanks alot for your help and method and of course LEOLAS too.

The problem to restore it comes cause the system partition in the stock rom is so big, to hold all the bloatware, games that not work and useless apps, if you want to restore it you need a bigger system partition, but the stock rom is available in update.img stock format. If you want i can give you a parameter file (here is where partitions size are defined) to allow the backup to fit

MY CX803 is not booting. It has power (i can see the blue led flashing inside) but it doesn't boot at all. no image on screen. not being detected by windows. What can I do?

I put the update.zip from cmw on my external sd card and nothing. No video no image, nothing. But I can see the blue led flashing inside.

If there's anything I can do...

I dont have your device, but in mk808b if you push reset button and while it is pressed connect the otg usb to pc, Windows will detect the device in,flash mode, then you need to erase idb and flah the Rom using the flash tool.

any other way to get in flash mode? Windows can't detect it also. Hard Reset, hard flash or something?
I see the led blinking but nothing, no image, no windows nothing.

                            Hi Leolas,

thank you so much for your help. After countless try's I got the windows to recognize this one. (I had to use USB port in the back, so this is the OTG one.)

Now I am getting one error when flashing finless rom 1.7:

When I press erase NAND IDB it says:
