Well, a replacement now doesn't need to be done........dunno what tomorrow/another day will bring though?

Last night we must have had a power outage, as when we awoke, all our digital clocks etc were flashing as they don't have battery backup.

After fixing them all, I went into the lounge room, and noticed that when the power must have come back on, the Spot blue light was on again. I thus turned on the screen it was attached to, noticing it was on the main menu, and after playing with it, it is now it is working again....sort of.

I have to use both my remotes though, as one seems to only work for clicking left/right and up/down clicking through the menus, and the other one lets me just use the mouse function. It doesn't matter whether I click or long click on the mouse key, they won't change to the other function. Also one remote can turn it off, and the other turn it on.

Sometimes the response from the unit is about 5 seconds behind the function I press on the remotes, sometimes you need to press a button multiple times. In some instances it sits there unresponsive, and then in the middle another routine, it jumps back to main menu, and you have to start all over again.

It is similar to trying to teach a child something that is far too difficult for them to understand.

I think this unit is possessed by ghosts.

      Sorry for that,

Keep at it, it will come
As suggested try a fresh burn (not the destroying type)

Remote can be a little temperamental
      Start fresh,
      Cheers

        LOL...loved it...

I am not sure I have the patience or expertise to do all the burning/flashing sort of stuff really?

I am more disappointed it has never worked properly from the start, identified it, but then pushed towards having to do all sorts of special rom work, just to get something that was bog standard, to simply work how it was purchased to work. I can understand having to do this if I had myself done anything different to what normally gets done with items, but all I did was say it never worked right, and tried to follow a manufacturers inbuilt menu for upgrade of software, like all devices can and sit still, with a lemon.

        Thanks anyhow trebor

If you want to try burning your device, just follow this tutorial: http://inphic.com/faq/howto/burning/spot-i5

          You need:

          - A USB to micro USB cable (as used to recharge a cell phone battery)
          - Amlogic burning tool (download link can be found on the tutorial)
          - A firmware (download link can be found on the tutorial)

Hmmmm...sounds like I have no choice?
Does this remove everything from its memory, including wiping any contents in the sdcard still inside it?
            Thanks

edit:What is the actual warranty period on these items please?

A flash on your device will definetly wipe and bust anything, ghosts to personal data off any memory embeded into the device board. But won't wipe the SD card, nor any external device attached while burning. (Not precisely "that" burning ...)

We do not usually work weekends. I'll read it tomorrow morning if you don't mind.

                      Hi Jim,
I sent you a message but I don't think the messaging system works very good.
                      Could you have a look?
Is t here another way of getting a message to you?
                      Thanks

                        Well, no luck.
The file for the firmware (732mb) took me 2.5 hours on my slow connection, but the tool was easy.
I did select English, but note it opened in another language anyway.
I figured out how to change it to English
                        I unplugged the Spot
                        Ran the burn tool
                        Connected and ran the firmware.
Let it finish, disconnected etc as per instructions
                        Plugged it all back in.
                        Blue power light turns on
Nothing else happens....just like it was the last time it refused to do anything
Left it on overnight to see if it came on again like last time...no go.
                        Disconnected/powered up over n over.
All I get is blue light.
Ran the whole thing through the pc again (flash/burn)
                        Only blue light works.

I had already eliminated that, as well as trying different hdmi ports

Hello, I don't have this box. Did you try downloading a new image in case the image you used has become corrupted? Perhaps a friend has a faster connection you could use to DL the file.
Are you getting any info displayed on your TV, Display or AVR?
Also, when using the USB Burning Tool, are you selecting "Force Erase All"?

All I did was what the tutorial said to do.
I did not do anything in the setup.
I remember that when it load the file(image) it said it was checking it, and nothing came up in the error part from the bottom section of the burn tool.
I remember it auto ticked a coupl of things on the right top somewhere
All I then had to do was click start or similar, and let it all go.
I came back later each time and then went thru the disconnect process.
That's my memory of the couple of goes at it.
