The stable builds (OE6) use Kodi 15.2, whereas the beta/test builds (OE7) use kodi 16. If you want to run a particular version of kodi, then you must install the appropriate version of OE - OpenELEC is very different to android, custom builds of the core components cannot be installed/upgraded (in OE kodi is a core component of the system, but optional to install in android, for example) The most common addons (like iptv) are supported in both OE versions, however, there are many android specific addons that will not work.

My current OE7 test builds are quite stable (I'm using it full time on my box), but I don't use any addons/usb devices in my environment.

Trying the different versions on a sdcard is the easiest way to find out what works best for you, without any risk to the installed android system - Once you are happy with OE, you can just backup it's settings, do a clean install to nand & then restore the sdcard backup to the nand installation. (I use several sdcards, to swap between the stable/test builds, & leave the nand for when I've decided a newer stable version is "stable" enough to become my new fallback stable system

How is possible to insert nand reboot option in different skin than confluence ?

You need to grab the source for your addon & add the option - Here is the patch that kszaq uses to the default theme to add this option:

      https://github.com/kszaq/OpenELEC.tv...c7b1940549ef72

(the patch to "projects/Amlogic/patches/kodi-theme-Confluence/reboot-from-nand.patch" is what is actually specific to the skin

Okay I am going to give this a shot on the weekend, So I download OE 6.03c which is stil kodi 15.2 and I downloaded the most recent test build of OE7 dated the march 25 which is Jarvis. So to my understanding all I am going to have to do unzip the files then copy them to a fresh formatted sd card. do this for each build separately. Then insert card, insert toothpick hold power and once it begins to load just sit back and wait till it completes right and this will give me straight openelec no dual booting right.

          Hey Wilro,

Had some time this week to play with OE and I've found the latest build 6.0.3c is causing random reboots and sometimes it freezes booting to the home screen. This is with a toothpick install and no sdcard in the bay. All you can see is the background and mouse curser, I've let it sit frozen for 15min and it doesn't get through it... This doesn't happen with 6.0.3b which I find very stable. I have three boxes my daughters have picked up on this and refuse to watch my "Test" box as they say it doesn't work as well as the other two... (6.0.3b) LOL

          Thanks Again, Frank

I've been trying the latest test build (Kodi 16.1-RC2, compiled Mar 22 2016) on an SD card. Is anyone finding the ethernet is not connected after a reboot? Connecting manually through Programs \ OE works fine.

If I enable "Wait for network before starting Kodi" with the default 10 seconds it still doesn't work. Increasing the timeout to 30 seconds also makes no difference.

              Hi
              I have the same issue.
I do not know what goes wrong,
But use static IP and it works fine..

tjay78 thanks for the advice, I'll give that a try. For what it's worth the wireless connection works every time on dhcp but its not as reliable as ethernet for buffering and throughput.

I've found no other problems with this build so far. It's allowed me to lift all clients up to the latest version of Kodi using a central library in mysql. Thanks Wilro.

                  Hi Frank,

Thanks for the report - This seems to be something related to the new kernel - I'm not seeing this myself, but will try reverting back to my heavily patched 6.0.3b kernel for my next build - The new kernel+backports was the only real major change between builds "b" & "c"

winny.uk , tjay78 - Sorry, my bad - I haven't been able to heavily test the ethernet side lately (My "test" environment has no ethernet connectivity

Well, I was trying to get my builds as close to kszaq 's as possible going forward - Unfortunately it appears that a lot of the optimisations he's made for the M8b's are causing a bit of havoc on our 'ol MX3G's, so I'll go back to my cherry picked patched kernel from my 6.0.2b build + the new wifi driver's to see if this resolves these issues.

I will take this kernel into my test builds for K16 when I'm sure these regressions are resolved

I have the same issue as well. Also the RSS feed only displays one letter and no other text scrolls by except for one letter.

I have OE7 Beta on one SD and OE6.03c on another.
I usually have like 2-3 addons that I install on any Kodi build and change the default skin and put my own background
Is there a clean way to copy my settings from OE7 SD to OE6? One is Jarvis and the other is isengard, feels like any backup and restore would just make things messy.
                      What do you guys think?

it would be so awesome if I could bring my addons and repo installs over every-time I try new build from Wilro.

Plug a USB stick into a usb port on your box. Fat 32 format is what my usb's are formatted to. Then open
OpenELEC Settings/ Scroll to Backup/ Create System and Kodi Backup / Choose the usb you have mounted. As the path where the Backup will be written.
On the new build you would choose restore from previous backup (instead of create system and kodi backup. Choose the usb you previously wrote the backup to
and choose the dated backup to restore from.

exactly. grab the toothpick zip file, and unzip it. only takes a couple of mins to update at most. i've done many flashes and never encountered a problem.

Thank you kostaman, will try that way.
I like using mimic skin instead of the default, will try to see if I can now patch to get reboot to nand button.

                              Howdy All,,

I have released build 6.0.3d - This build reverts to 6.0.3b's kernel, which fixes lan stability. Apart from the kernel, all the latest OE6/Kodi improvements are incorporated.

There are still a few issues with my OE7 test builds relating to lan connections, which I have isolated & working on a fix for atm.

                              Cheers!
