Magendanz, thanks for the quick reply. I found the USB Burning Tool (there are multiple versions) and have a USB male A to male A transfer cable but am unclear on which Amlogic burn package I need to use. There are quite a few .img files out there and want to make sure I'm using the correct one so as to not do any more damage. Could you point me in the right direction? I'm an old IT Support guy and am slowly learning about Android. Thanks.

The equivalent Amlogic burn package (.img file) of that OEM stock OTA update is here: http://freaktab.org/c4497951a9afaa16

However, any of the .img files for the M8S PRO should work with USB Burning Tool to restore your device. They're all archived here: http://freaktab.org/28~f

http://freaktab.org/5d1306cce48f4c3b. GuestÂ* directed you to this as the oem firmware.
I run his nano version listed on pg1 of this thread. The stock version has a more complete pkg of .Google's apps.
Either , imho, will be more efficient, smoother, and intuitive than meCools fw.
Once you get the hang of flashing, you can easily change your rom to meet your needs. Luck 2 you!
    Kris....don't forget my boxes! Okay?

Magendanz and ClarkKent, thanks for all your help with this. Here's where it stands...

I figured the OEM firmware I was directed to by Magendanz was the correct one but wanted to verify so as not to make things worse. I tried that image, plus a few others, in the USB Burning Tool and got multiple errors each time I tried to flash...

      [2018-02-15 10:15:17 641][HUB4-1][0x30401002]UBOOT/Partition bootloader/Identify/USB Control setup error

      [2018-02-15 10:26:56 653][HUB4-1][0x30403003]UBOOT/Partition system/Download buffer/Data tranfer error
With some additional research I found the other option of copying to a micro SD card using Burn Card Maker. At first I was confused by it as none of the instructions I found for that app explained how loading the .img file into the app and running it would create the boot and image files needed. Once I figured that out I created the micro SD card, put it into the box. held down the reset button and applied power. The Android figure appeared on the TV and loaded the image. Ten minutes later I was back to having a fully functional box.

Thanks for all the help, I learned a lot by doing this. My nephew also thanks you as he now doesn't have to buy me a new box.

I can easily adapt the M8S PRO L firmware for the M8S PRO. (The device trees are actually identical.) It's just the bootloaders that are incompatible.

Guest would the mod noted above (275.1) retain the features of your last posted at #236?
Would it also have the wv L1 and hdcp protections from a stock oem Pro L model device?
               Any other differences forseen?

                Hey all!

I have a problem, thats already been mentiod by someone else, but its the Netflix on Stock firmware instead of ATV. The issue is that the Netflix from the Play Store gives far less good quality compared to the ATV version of Netflix. This addresses both audio and video. With the normal version, i get compression artifacts and the audio sounds quite flat. With the ATV version of netflix, the video quality is very good, and even my Onkyo receiver detects Dolby Digital audio and plays that stream. So far so good, however, the ATV version shows a gray bar on the bottom part of the screen, and the video window is kind of resized to make it fit 16:19 (so black bars at left and right side). This is annoying, because the gray bar is quite bright.

Is there a way to make:

                - The ATV version work full screen without gray bars
                - The normal play store version work with high quality video/audio?

The reason i use stock instead of TVStock is that i like to control by mouse instead of remote control with most apps (netflix atv excepted).

Here are some images to show:

                Kind regards,

                Mathijs

P.S. i am using the latest version of Stock listed on page1 of this thread.

I've installed the latest Stock ROM version using TRWP to flash to OTA zip file. It seemed to work fine, but I don't seem to be able to get 4K resolution to my 4K TV ( Sony XE7073 400Hz)?

The highest option I'm getting is 1080p60hz

I've managed to figure out that my TV was at fault for not displaying 4K resolution. Somehow it's settings were broken and I had to do a factory reset to get 4K display working on it again. Everything seems to be working as expected now.
