I've 3 boxes, 2 from gb, one from banggood... only fromg gb have this problem... those from banggood had older firmware

I think Gearbest the least likely to have access to 08.29 FW - It might be worth asking GeekBuying ? Does Trebor have a direct line by any chance ??

Others have had boxes from a supplier other than Gearbest with same FW and issue.

If you ordered from Gearbest, pls ask them for this FW (20170829.121614.V0321) - especially that they told you to change it to the higher version.

I think Magendanz said something about using older available U-boot code or something technical ??

Updated my good box to the latest V06xx ATV (Beta?) using USB Burn Tool
-Erase Flash>Force Erase
-Erase Bootloader

2' 50" to 98% (verification point)
3' 30" to 100%

About 3 minutes of Swirly ANDROID Splash Screen and then the super easy ATV Setup.
Looks great and I managed to restore (manually) all my apps using Android Assistant

Working nicely so far ....

What was that about a working something bar ? in this base build, the thing that allows VPNs ??
Can't see anything ?

No - The 08.29 box was completely borked from it's first re-flash.
Nothing since has made it work.

After several attempts I succeed burning ATV for 20170919.150557.V0619 into box FW 20170829.121614.V0321.
Nexus starts but at different times it freezes. The farthest I was able to reach was typing password for wifi.

Here are some comments about ATV 20170919.150557.V0619

First of all thank Magendanz for preparing this ATV rom image.

It is the most stable version I have ever seen for this device. I use this TV Box on Samsung 4K TV (60hz)
Crashes and freezes on previous rom are not about CPU temperature as I said before. They were software bugs or driver for Android, I don't know.


There are some bugs or problems about this image.

When I want to watch something on Google Movies, I can only hear the sound, there is no screen (video)

I have a black screen when I open Netflix.

Android Remote service does not work very well. Cetus Play is the best solution for Android TV. It has even iOS app and you can install many apps from remote.

Google Cast receiver is not working and Magendanz told me about that.

Initial setup (Google account and wifi setup) sometimes crashes. You may have to set it up more than one. If you succeeded, then everything becomes better.

These are I remembered. Whenever an app crashed, you don't loose your TV Box, You can always can go to the home screen.


The one that I like most is the Youtube receiver. It runs perfectly.
Also,

I liked to have a Power option next to the App Drawer on home screen. It was absent on this rom. It should have international language support. Even it has not, it was nice on home screen.


I want to as Magendanz to prepare a new ROM which includes opengapps latest release (30 September). It may be fixes about theese problems (at least no video screen on Google Movies).



I have tried by factory reset, but that did not help.

Does anybody has no video on Google Movies app?

I don't think so that banggood or gearbest will agree somekind of "field claim". Off course if it is not a hardware problem. It seems to me that every person who update wrong software in meaning of this store was broken the warranty rules.

The only hope for me and us is Magendaz (ROM developer) ... and maybe he find solution.

Both superceleron and I are convinced that these problems stem from a bad batch of eMMC 5.1 chips, as evidenced by the fact that the problem only affects specific factory runs shipped in August which also fail on OEM firmware and even LibreELEC (although less frequently when run from the SD card). No firmware update is going to be able to solve that.

Note that I've also added a BIG RED WARNING to the OP on both my M8S Pro+ custom ROM topics.

That's a good warning - Maybe you can ask Trebor to add it to the OEM Box Thread as well ? Just in case ...
