I have installed the USB burning tool along with the World cup drivers onto my win10 PC
when I plug in the box using my male-male cable, my PC does not even detect the box, let alone recognise them
It is getting power because the blue light comes on, but as far as the PC is concerned, its like I havent plugged anything in
I have tested the cable using a multimeter and it appears to be fine

Is the box completely dead, or is there another trick I can try?

My box (5.1) is not totally dead..
I saw in the screen a ‘dead green droid with a ‘x’.
Seems that is waiting ‘something’ to begin...
Usb tool is not working only with burn sd card...
Today I see a new official firmware:

    Any help???

Magendanz -I've no plans to do that. The performance running from microSD would be problematic.
OK, but do you have any pointers on how I can achieve that. Maybe some of the others with a borked device may also benefit from this?

I am currently running Libreelec from a microSD card. My questions is whether it is possible to burn the this ROM to a microSD card and boot up to try the ROM. I suppose if I manage to do that, widevine would no longer be accessible, unless it can be read from the NAND itself
Better claim a full refund to the box since you know it's problematic. Before the time runs out.

I would try shorting pins to enter Mask ROM mode. You'll have to crack the case, though. http://freaktab.com/forum/main-categ...short-location

          It worked!!!
I have flashed it back to stock, and it seems to be running fine

There is a little something in your paypal account to say thanks for the support and the good work. Even though I wont be able to use TVStock on this unit now, I will keep an eye on this thread to see if there is a fix (maybe its not the EMMC chips?)

          Thanks again

Thanks, Glen! At this point we're pretty confident it's not a firmware issue, but I'll be looking to see if there's something special about the 20170829.121614.V0321 OEM release (other than the fact that it was what got installed in the factory).

Yeah, we're still narrowing down the affected lots.

I have just opened my box and and have the eMMC 5.1 chipset SEC 649 B041 KLMAG1JENB
          My build is M8S PRO+-userdebug 7.1.1 NMF26Q 20170815.182813.V0321

Is there still a risk if I tried the latest OTA update? M8S_PRO+-V0619_TVStock-20170930.zip (https://1drv.ms/u/s!AoqocX31ecnXgaUTqblRyByBEuf3Og)

Well just got my box and it has the latest ota update on it, should've crack the box to check the chips before I go and put ATV on it?

That's a good sign. It means they've dealt with the problem by pulling the Samsung KLMAG1JENB - B041. Now if we can get an FFU for the affected chips...

If I understand you correctly, the same build of TWRP for P21x could boot to SD card with the previous ROM (kernel) but with the new one it doesn't work? Ugh. Could it be a TWRP issue? I understand the conundrum. As I'm currently running M8S_PRO+-V0321_TVStock-20170825 if I flash to your current build (20170919.150557.V0619) is it possible to flash back to the 20170825 ROM or do the new protections somehow prevent that as well?

Yes, the old TWRP and new builds that I've made with the new V0619 kernel are also not working. However, if you flash to the new V0619 firmware, you should have no problem flashing back to an older build. I've done this a couple of times already with no problems.

Just FYI, I did managed to build a functioning TWRP on the V0619 kernel for the M8S Pro, which I'll be posting shortly. Things seem to behave differently on L1 boxes, though.

Yes, I'd think so. I believe you'll be the first to test with the new Kingston eMMC, though.

If you're paranoid, you could try to flash any OEM firmware release just to confirm that it takes and you don't have any freezing issues. (That way if the retailer asks, you can insist that you only flashed an official OEM release and there's no way that voids any warranty.)

And at this point I've only got TWRP working on V0619 for the M8S Pro. That's not going to help those with the M8S Pro+ or M8S Pro L. It might just be the price you pay for having Widevine L1 support.

Wow, you don't waste any time. Thanks for building an updated TWRP and info regarding ability to reflash to older build. It is my preference to run Magisk and keep root so hopefully a new TWRP build will work on M8S Pro+ with V0619 kernel.

Please see comments above. The fix for TWRP on V0619 is only for the M8S Pro at this point.

eh as long as as it has some sort of recovery rather than the stupid burn tools i dont care wiether its twrp or stock lol, okwell im going to clean my house floors then come back and give this new atv rom a crack for shits and giggles

This is why I put the BIG RED WARNING in the original post on this topic.

Yes, i saw that, but because I had a different build I thought I could be safe. I should have opened the box before I flashed

Either way, its a rainy day here, so at least I will have something to do
Hmmmm, I have the same firmware version that you did and based on advice from Grimmie earlier in the thread I believed I was good to flash. Seeing your experience I have popped the lid off and seen that I have the SEC 713 B041 KLMAG1JENB chip.

So I presume that despite having the right firmware version to go forward, the physical memory chip means if I do I am liable to end up with a bricked device.

That said I think you have mentioned in another post that if I were to try and flash the latest OEM firmware and it died that I could go back to Banggood and request a replacement or refund.

                Did I get that right?

Yep, if you've got a suspect eMMC, my recommendation is to flash a different OEM firmware and verify proper operation before doing anything with a custom ROM. That way they can't say you did anything that might have voided the warranty.
              Working...
