You can find the link on first page. But BE AWARE THAT YOU CAN DAMAGE YOUR BOX.

Tested a ts mpeg2 hd stream recorded from OTA on a raspberry pi running LibreELEC...played back fine using VLC player - so maybe there's something up with the way the Live Channels media player works.

        Hi guys,

Just grabbed one of these and my luck it has a batch 713 nand. I've been having some issues with the flashing tools and was hoping you folks could provide some insight.

First thing I tried was the bootcard maker. I downloaded the img file from the first post, and put it on a samsung 32GB sd card (with format and partition). When I put it in the mecool and restarted with the reset button pushed in, I kept getting the green android with a red x.

Then I tried putting just the ota zip in the root of the sdcard. When I restarted with the reset button pushed in, it started the update process, but after a reboot, it got stuck on the mecool logo. Yup, I kinda bricked it.

Then I tried the usb burning tool. First I had to splice up a usb male to male cable (I'm 95% sure I got it right). I'm confused about how to use the tool, though. On a pc, I installed it. I start it and change the language to english, then I load the img (tried the one from the first post). I hold the reset button, and plug the usb in, mecool gets the power, starts up, but stuck on the mecool logo. PC doesn't recognize anything. I also tried hitting the start button in the usb burning tool before doing all the steps and same thing.

Right now, the box is pretty much bricked. An sdcard with an ota zip does nothing. Usb burning tool does nothing (but it never did even before it was bricked). But if I put the image from the first post with the bootcard maker and restart with the reset button, I still get the green android with a red x. It makes me think that some parts of the recovery is still there and working.

Any ideas on what else I can try?

By the way, this may be off topic, but I was able to start it from an sdcard with libreelec. I was also able to install libreelec to the internal nand. So now, the box works with libreelec and boots into it from internal nand. But I'd really like to try and put android tv on it as that was the reason.

        Thanks

Go back through this thread a few pages and have a look at flashing using the NAND mask ROM method. you should be able to get the burning tool to see the box with this method. Note that you will need to take the box apart

Just got one of the lucky one, B041 sec713, version 20170815. Bricked it after ato update. Tried everything except mask rom, didn't work. Went through all the threads this morning. And now problem solved and I even have the tvstock running in the box now.

solution is simple: open usb burning tool, import original 20170815 version IMG, click start, tick force erase, hold reset , plug in usb to computer ONLY (don't connect power!!!), flashing started within 3 seconds.

After checking it did work, I flashed tvstock 0930 version same way without any problem.
Is it still stable for you?

Do I need usb male-male to flash using usb burning tool?

                Yes, you do.

Just received my M8S Pro+ from Banggood US (very fast shipping BTW). Immediately opened it up, turns out the eMMC chip is a Samsung SEC 652 and the firmware is the 20170829 version. The box's update apps claim there's no later firmware available. I'm keeping the cover off for the moment to check heat. Plugged it into my TV, the box connected at 4K60 by default. Connected to WiFi router about 5 feet away, box says connection quality is Excellent with a link speed of 72Mbps. Checked for freezing by running 4K YouTube videos (which will only play at 1080p) for about 3 hours. Was mostly uneventful, only had two hiccups1) YouTube ran out of buffer once and the video stepped back down to fuzzy before working its way back to 1080p, and 2) the WiFi on the box dropped completely once and I had to go back into settings and click Connect to get it back. Netflix app seems a bit pokey but I didn't log in and try it. Heatsink gets fairly hot, but it should if it's doing its job. Not concerned about cooling yet since 1) I haven't put the top back on, and 2) the case seems very well ventilated.

Overall, the box OOTB works fairly well. I could arguably just replace the launcher and be fairly happy with it. The problem is that I bought the box specifically to run Magendanz' nano Nexus or ATV ROM to get 4K YouTube and HD or better Netflix. I'm mulling the thought of just taking the jump and trying the ROM anyways despite the Big Red Warning. One thing I'm finding curious is the box's updater apps won't find any later firmware, which makes me wonder if Mecool is sort-of locking this eMMC version down to the 20170829 version so no bad OTA flashes officially occur.

                20170829 - Spells - DANGER

Just my opinion (and a few others now ...) YMMV

If it is possible to get this working, that would be amazing, tvheadend might be another option, but kernel needs mods I think

                    Hi Guest ,
I have bought this box at banggood and your rom works great, I would like to be able to modify it by adding my apk and config of kodi, but with "amlogic customization tool 2.10" the pack does not work, blocked on nexus logo at boot, what software or method you use to create the img, thanks

                    Strangely
                    "2" is 5.0
                    and later 5.1 is "1"
Maybe there is a light in the end of the tunnel and it would be possible to still fix the BOX?

                    Thanks.

Do we have any wizard here? If I order a new box today, from GB, do I receive an "affected" one - or a fully working, ready to ATV update?

                      To be more serious:
I did an experiment today on my 701 box. Flashing the latest ATV - unfortunatelly (as excpected) a lot of freezes and holds. Getting back to 0829 without any problem. So as Magendanz wrote - it's a 100% problem with partially flashing the soft.

No Reset Switch there either !
Does this mean we can't put an SDCard with LibreElec, don't you need a reset button for this?

                        Cheers.

Thanks so much. I'll try the nand mask rom method tonight. The box has been taken apart almost from the start. The reset button was really annoying to get to

My order was made during the super cheap 11th Aniv. Sale but was delayed shipping - Maybe the bad batch was withdrawn !?

                            • Your reset switch is mounted on the top of the PCB facing the front vent (bottom), at lower-left corner in your photo just below the wireless chipset. It's a little awkward to access through the vent, but you can do it with the other end of a paper clip as shown here: http://freaktab.com/node/660688

No - That is the IR Reciever on the left - The Reset SW was on the right (K12) attached where I have put a Red Box. There is nothing there now in the latest build.

Ah, you're right. Can't believe they completely removed it. Wow! Can I assume we've checked the M8S Pro location, underneath the pin hole?
