You're Awesome
Hello,
I found this information via Google search (duh...lol), when looking for the best and most of all correctly detailed method to root my Nextbook!
SPECS
Nextbook
Model: NEXT7P12-8G
Serial: YFG0613073113
FCC ID: S7JNEXT7P12-8G
(IF YOU NEED ANY OTHER SPECIFICS PLEASE LET ME KNOW)
Everything worked GREAT! I even used the stock ROM though I did not need to, as a test on my tablet for you. Just in case you have not had it tested with a tablet with my specifics.
Compared to everything else I found on the web (and believe me I went through many, many, many, websites). It seems as if every post I read had slightly to dramatically different instructions, many websites just flat out claiming certain Nextbook models could not be rooted at all.
Of course I tried many different variations as far as search terms go. Trying to find the most relevant answer.
But I would like to say when I did probably the most direct and correct search phrase 'how to root next7p12-8g', this website listed as #1 in the results! AND the first post listed in the website description (five were listed on Google as the website description), the first post though now this one ends up pointing to this one, as well...this one was the second post listed!
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your hard work, as well as the patience I witnessed here in you dealing with other members! I don't understand why you are not at least a moderator, you really deserve it and are MORE than capable and knowledgeable .
Via your teaching my tablet was rooted in less than 30 seconds (absolute truth)! Everything including the Recovery ROM worked flawlessly.
Again THANK YOU...THANK YOU...THANK YOU!
As mentioned if you need any other information, or if you ever need somthing tested again on a tablet with my specs I would be more than happy (I'm anal and always have everything on here double backed up), so erasing anything I have is never a problem!
You're the best and I wish you well in every endeavor!

I'm rather new to this. I've only been doing ROM development for about a month now and I've still got lots to learn.
Glad I was able to help you with your tab.
Welcome to FreakTab! Stick around... I have more on the way.

I don't think anyone has released any custom ROMs or mods for the Next7P12-8G yet. I plan to eventually, but I'm busy working on The Next8P12 and Next8HD8G currently because those are the two I actually own. When I get done with them, I may release something new for the Next7P12-8G.

Need a little help.....
Originally posted by shaunmt View PostThese files are for the Amlogic Nextbook Next7P-8G commonly sold at Wal Mart.
Here is what you get:
Modified Stock 3e Recovery:
This is the stock recovery, dumped from the device, unpacked, modified to use Google Test Keys instead of Private Nextbook Keys and then repackaged for your enjoyment.
Unzip and place the uImage_recovery file on your external SD Card. Reboot to recovery by holding Volume and Power. You won't notice any visual changes, but you can attempt to flash any .zip signed with Google Test Keys.
Your mileage may vary. If something won't flash there is a compatibility problem between the updater-binary or updater-script and our kernel/recovery.
Stock Rom:
This is a close as I could get to a flashable stock rom.
This contains a stock bootloader.img, boot.img, uImage_recovery, logo.img, and aml_logo.img dumped from the device. The system partition was also dumped from the device. I believe all of the Nextbook bloatware is here, with nothing added and NO ROOT. Everything has been packaged into an update.zip and signed with Google Test Keys. This WILL reformat System, Data and Cache. Backup any critical data before flashing.
Place the update.zip on external SD Card and flash using the modified recovery above.
Root Package:
This is a flashable .zip that installs the su binary and has been signed with Google Test Keys.
Put it on your external SD Card and flash it using the modified recovery above. Then install your preference of Superuser.apk or SuperSu.apk from the Google Play store or elsewhere.
ROM Version History:
09-15-2013
- First Release

A special thanks to FreakTab user BlackKnight330 for confirming that these files work!
Enjoy!

Wifi and Screen Flipping
Any ideas? Could I be missing a step?
It's a Next7P12-8g that I bought a few days ago at WalMart. It was working fine until I started experimenting with this.
Thanks for any thoughts.

Have you reconfigured your WiFi in settings after flashing? The flash wiped out any previous settings. You would have to choose your wireless router and enter the password again.
I'm not sure what you mean by "screen flipping"?
I don't think you missed any steps, although I would point out that it was not necessary to flash the ROM. The ROM does not offer any new features. It is provided mainly for people who need to reset their tablet to factory condition, usually because they have flashed an incompatible ROM from some other tablet. To the best of my knowledge, all reported problems with this ROM, have been from people who flashed it on the wrong tablet, although Nextbook is well known for changing internal hardware components and not changing the product name, model or packaging, so it is possible that the stock firmware has been updated by Nextbook.

By screen flipping, I mean when you are holding it horizontal and then rotate the screen 90-degrees.... the display no longer rotates or 'flips'.
