I don't know... but it is *probably* safe to try... you have to use the modified 3e recovery to flash it. The root package doesn't do anything but add the su binary to your existing system.

Your tablet is definitely a different model. Never heard of it before it now, but I did find it on Amazon and it looks different physically.

You could probably root it with Cydia Impactor also... it seems to work on lots of devices.

If you do root, if you could dump your system, I'd be happy to make a ROM from it.

Ug.

Ok, here goes.
I picked up this Nextbook from a local pawn shop. They said it wouldn't boot.
I get it home and power it on and it just sits at a screen with a lady with headphones on.
So I boot into recovery and it gives the exact same error Mohammed had. So try deleting the cache/partition/media and completely wiping it, still nothing.

So I found this website and this post. I downloaded the recovery file and the root file. I unzipped the recoveryul file into the root dir of the sd card and I left the root.zip file zipped and put it on. I booted the tablet with vol+power and install from card, it went through just fine, nothing failed. Took me back to the main recovery screen and I rebooted. No go, still stuck at this splash screen. Any ideas?

Here is all I know about this model...

Nextbook Model: NextP7P12-8G
FC: Has a silver sticker of it saying Serial Number: YFG0613044167
FCC ID: S7JNEXT7P12-8G

Any ideas? I'd love to get this thing working as the pawn shop is "all sales are final"

I have all of the files but not the "system"

I tried the commands using a terminal emulator for android everything was generated except for the system.

My tablet hangs when I try to dump the system. I have to long press the power button to turn it off

when I did it, I was also suspecting a "hang" on system, but eventually it completed. but that was from windows command prompt usin adb, so not sure if it works the same.

I've never had a problem using dd to dump system from terminal on a running tablet. Maybe you need to mount the system partition Read / Write first? Or if it already is, maybe it needs to be Read Only during the dump?

P.S. > Dumping the system partition will take A LOT longer than the other partitions. As i recall, there is no feedback during this process. Maybe you just thought the tablet froze and rebooted before it finished?

Ok, got it working by downloading the 420mb file.
Everything works now except wifi. It just sits at turning on wifi...thoughts?

Sounds like a bad flash. Happened to me once, with the same ROM file. I lost both WiFi and external SD card when fully booted. I had to reformat my external SD card, put the recovery and ROM back on it, boot to recovery, wipe everything, then reflash before I got everything working again.

I am not aware of any other ROMs currently available for this model tablet, although I'm working on some things that may be released in the future.

Yes, you should be able to push APKs via ADB from PC to TAB. You can also install APKs from external SD Card. I keep several APKs on my external SD card so I can quickly reinstall the ones I need for testing after flashing my test ROMs.

I think it really froze. I cannot access anything such as homescreen etc. and when it turn off because of standby it won't turn on. Is this normal in dumping a system? I'll try it again.

I have never had that problem on my models. Try onandroid. It should backup system.

Just wanted to confirm installing SU and the modified recovery works flawlessly on my Next7P12-8G, serial YFG06132615587. Question, I noticed my stock ROM is 4.0.4. Is this the same version as the stock ROM you provided in the OP?

Also, is there anything I can provide you for a custom ROM or kernel? This thing is pretty slow and I would love to speed it up a bit with a new kernel. I can only provide donations or beta testing though. Haven't had the time to learn cooking yet.
