Before I begin work on a new ROM, let me ask some questions of those who experienced the 1.7a And 1.7b ROM's.

The OTA update feature only exists in the 1.7b ROM. This was the firmware posted on the Pipo site on 9/17/2013 with a file name of PiPO M9pro software_OTA_20130824. v1.7a is actually based on firmware with a newer file name date, but posted on 9/12/13 and 9/9/13.

So this OTA feature seems to be implemented on a firmware that was older than the 1.7a ROM's firmware, but was posted on a later date with this nagging feature.

What I need to know is which ROM is better performance wise?

Do I need to invest the time in making a new ROM with the necessary tweaks to disable the OTA feature on a ROM based on older firmware??????? I'm not sure I see the logic in that.

What do Ya'll think? [Yes, that's really the way we talk in Arkansas...hahaha!!!!!!]

    Hy Randy
So first of all the OTA version is the latest, i think. as you can see the kernel date and the #version number:

Kernel version ( New OTA )

    3.0.36+

    Kernel version 1.7a

    3.0.36+
    root@alex-System-Product-Name #311
    Fri Sep 6 17:49:55 CST 2013

on the pipo support site you can see that the date of the OTA is 2013-09-13

I'v used the site translator from china version to englis, because with the english site no log data.

M9pro Universal Edition supports OTA upgrade firmware 20130913

    M9pro support OTA firmware upgrade

3G and wifi version can brush

It works fine for me, i tried to update with OTA ( both revovery: original and CWM) but i got error.
I think keep this version with updated by OTA, and will be the latest.
Thanks for all your BRILIANT work! keep doing

Riley Iv tested both, 1.7a and 1.7b Im currently on 1.7b and very happy with it, On 1.7a I used to have 17000 on antutu and with 1.7b I have 19360, I unchecked the system update because of the OTA update, Im loving this one, from time to time I get a tablet freeze but I guess its not from the ROM I dont know, its usually when Im watching movies on MX player, are you releasing an 1.8?

      Kind regards

I'm waiting on another firmware release from Pipo for a 1.8. I guess we will try 1.7b for a while.

So clearly the 1.7b version is newer...except for that odd date within the file name (not the posting date on the site). That's interesting. I should have called it 1.8.

Anyway, what concerns me is whether Pipo intends to continue placing updates on their site...or it's OTA from here on out? We will have to explore new avenues of obtaining updated firmware to continue producing custom ROM's. I guess we will wait and see.

I'm afraid that we might resort to someone with an M9 Pro running the stock firmware and dumping the ROM whenever an OTA update comes down. I don't have one of these tablets, though.

I guess we will have to wait and see.

Is it necessary to tick this and flash ROM in full?

              No. Leave those unticked.

                Hi Randy,

In a before post I told you that I had the stock Rom with the last OTA rooted but I didn't know how to dump it If you wanted to make a new custom. Maybe I didn't explain clearly, sorry for that. If you tell me how can I dump the stock Rom I'll do it. Thanks a lot.

Hello Riley. How can I install your rom without bootanimation? Because is little bit like for kids.
Sorry for that but I prefer original bootanimation.

To each his own.....I'm definitely not at kid and I really like Tattman65's art. (No offense taken...I respect other's opinions and I appreciate your support/concern).

Anyway, the bootanimation.zip is located in the system/media folder. Since you are rooted, you can use a rooted explorer app to browse to it and delete it. Then, you will only get the generic "ANDROID" boot animation. Or, you can replace it with one of your own. (I don't have the original, sorry)

You just need to make sure the replacement is small enough to fit in the system and have execute permissions.

                        Hi Randy.
I need to remove the bootanimation as well (my wife doesn't like it on her tablet ).
Would Xplore (or ES File Explorer) be the explorer you are suggesting to use?
And do we have to go through the procedure you've outlined below?
                        Cheers

                                Hey Randy,
I skipped few last roms updates and in the end jumped from 1.2a to 1.7a. WiFi is improved (huge difference) but still not perfect. This rom is insane stable cuz in last few days freezed only once. SuperSu included like I asked ya in old days. Can't expect more - just keep good work !
AnTuTu Benchmark shows 17547 now b4 was like 14k for me.
                                Cheers !
