You have to open the box and see what is printed on PCB. Or try to flash at first New and check if it is O.K. If not, try to flash Old.

It is impossible to say correctly that 2.1 is newest. I have v2.1 too, but I had to flash it with 1.2.3 Old version FW. It depends on the date when your box was cooked in Chinese factory. My was born on 1332 (32nd week). And I know 1335 (35th week) requires New 1.2.3 FW. So if your device is with v2.1 printed on board try to check and compare the date of manufacture. Lower than 1332>Old FW, bigger than 1335>New FW.
In case you flash wrong FW version, you won't have LAN in working condition only.

          Hi Frank,
          It is quite strange.
Which of your device and what kernel you are speaking about.
I had tried to flash kernel-k_r42_old_revision_cpu1800h_ddr800_1080p_gpu600h on my device which is in my sigh bellow and was showed with 1200-1800 frequency interval. I use v4.0.4 for tests.

oc kernel cpu clock problem with new rev FW

            Hi

I did not try oc kernel on old rev (May be I'll be it tonite)

On new rev, cpu clock is 1400Mhz and using a oc kernek it is min&max set to 1200.
I try with many "set cpu" tools, all tools say the same; min&max=1200.

I also try a oc kernel from minix (something like cpu 1800 gpu 600 ddr 720). Kernel works pretty well ;') but no lan no wifi. On such kernel max cpu is only 1600 (no 1700 no 1800 as it could be expected).

I check files in /sys/blah blah/cpu/blah-blah, and min&max are '1200000', tried to change file contents but this is useless....

I'll try tonite with my old jesurun that runs with old rev (by default this is cpu 1600).

              Fantastic !!!!!

Wasser Hello, I am very satisfied with your new ROM. I'm using the new revision 1.2.3 on my CS-918 device. It was not necessary to use any additional OC, do I run JB 4.2.2 system using the CPU in the range 1200-1600 MHz without problems some MKV files in high definition. I thought the ROM super fast and without lags. My broadband reaches at 30 MB and can browse the internet with enough fluidity. Loved the initial boot and applications that you installed, especially the native system reading of NTFS, NFS, ISO, etc .... Congratulations for the good work, I can honestly say that this ROM is the best I have ever experienced. For now it's just, I will do more testing and get back to you to communicate the results.
Hugs coming from Brazil for you.

                K-R42 firmware by wasser

People, you should stay on 1.4 GHz frequency because on higher freqs you are slowly damaging your device because power converter in KR42 is not suited to work kind under heavy tasking at higher freqs than 1.4GHz

Just tried oc kernel on old rev firmware and all expected clocking are availaible.

But no matter the oc kernel used, cant have smooth playing on amazing spiderman (1080p with dts 1500k).

I agree with you absolutely. When we use overckloced kernels it always requires more energy.
My mesurement with kernel-k_r42_old_revision_cpu1800h_ddr800_1080p_gpu600h showed me max. 1,75A while runing AnTuTu test. 5V 4A PS was used for test. Any other device besides USB wired mouse was connected to device during the test.
So if you want to use high speed kernel with appropriate stability level I would recommend you to change your PS for more powerful one(min 3A). And if you want to connect your unpowered USB HDD (like mine WD My Passport 500GB) to the box, it is necessary to use additional powered HUB too.
I'm not shure we'll spoil our device with stock 2A PS(fake 2A, real up to 1.6), but we'll have parmanent reboots or fried PS eventually

Try to play it with MX Player HW if it is local USB connection. If you pull it from the net then use HW+. In this case it won't be 5.1 sound via SPDIF but I'm sure video will be playing well.
I hope your movie isn't VC-1 or MPEG-2, because these are supported by HW/SW mode only but with some size/bitrate limitation unfortunately.

                        Please HELP

                        Hello,
I desperately need your help with the k-r42 that my friend purchased from geekbuying in September. He got it two weeks ago. Please see attached images of the inside of the device.
He wasn't pleased with the performance of the unit so I recommended him to flash wasser's ROM. He flashed both revisions the OLD and the NEW. With both of them the WiFi doesn't work. I feel very bad about it because I recommended him to buy this unit and I recommended him to flash a custom ROM. Now he is really upset and me too.
How can he make it working again. He didn't backup the original FW.
                        Thank you!

Update: It turned out that he ordered T-r42

                          bad tv out

I am still having problems with TV OUT in 1.2.3

I have a projector and old CRT TV. The projector is VGA so I am using HDMI2VGA adapter from dealextreme, which is working great. The projector is 720p so that's the max resolution the box allows me to set and I am happy with it.

BUT: No matter what I do, I can't get a good picture with the TV OUT. When I start the device, the TV is blank. If I enter system settings, and switch the TV format from PAL to NTSC (and optionally back again to PAL), I get a picture, however, it is very distorted. I think the RGB color layers are offset and floating apart. Also, the picture is only stretched this way in the bottom half of the picture, the top remaining blank.

I tried disconnecting the HDMI, which didn't make any difference. When I connected it back, the TV OUT went blank again and was only enabled again after switching the TV format to NTSC and back to PAL again.

I need both outputs to work simultaneously, e.g. I can watch something on my projector and my gf watch the same thing when she has to do something in the other room with the old TV.

                          Please help?

Lewy's 2.0.4 worked good with this with some of the newer wasser kernel...

                            Hi All
I finally got my k-r42 to work with Wasser 1.2.3 New Version

What I did was to unpack with the RKTOOLS 3066 :
                            Unpack wasser 1.2.3 new ver
                            Unpack the Chinese : update-rk3188t-bx09-android4.2.2-yigeweiye-20131101
                            unpack justXBMC 1.1.1

Then in RKBATCH tool 1.37 I set : loader + boot + kernel from Chinese bx09 image
                            Recovery from justXBMC 1.1.1
And all other (parameter + misc + system )from Wasser 1.2.3.
                            Erased nand/IDB and flashed rom.

box booted just fine , Nand mounted correctly , lan works , wifi works (even at the same time)
normal boot about 10 seconds, antutu score 17206.
I just needed to go to settings and set resolution to 720p , because screen was not showing all.

then I flashed only wasser 1.2.3 new ver kernel + boot - and box still booted (-: , all working as before.
Antutu score :16104 lower than stock kernel ?, strange .
                            so I flashed OC kernel : kernel-k_r42_new_revision_cpu1704_ddr720_1080p_gpu600h
                            antutu score : 16204 .
re-flashed bx09 kernel back and tested again : same result as before 17206.

I am running wasser image with only Chinese loader and justXBMC recovery ,
should the make my box run lower speed with wasser kernel ?

I do not care much about antutu , what kind of improvements do i get with wasser kernel ,
that i do not get with Chinese kernel ?

hope this will help all who have issues with getting wasser/other roms to work .
also maybe will work directly with just to choose Chinese loader + justXBMC recovery , or just one of them , I did not test.

                              black screen after upgrade

                              hello,

i'm experiencing some troubles after updating to rom 1.2.3 (tried new & old version)
used the rkbatchtool to select the firmware, upgraded my k-r42, update succesfull but when i connect k-42 to tv I , tv screen remains black ..
connected with hdmi, sound via spdif to bose lifestyle surround system.
i change resolution of tv to 720/1080, both doesn't work ...

also tried the solution vipersvcd proposed in the post before, but always getting error message that loader file is not valid ... perhaps invalid downloaded file (took about 3 hours to download), now trying again ..

i'm not really an expert in this matter, any tips ?

                              regards
                              Kris

                                Yes I have two tips.
When you flash your device using RKbatchTool you mustn't apply "Upgrade" button. "Restore" is correct in this case. And you have to wait for up to 5 min. after RKbatchTool finishes his work. Then you'll see "X" bootanimation screen.
