Minix Neo X7 - Finless 1.8 ROM

I did not change any .kl files over the stock ROM so those should be the same!
What stock ROM are you using? Probably not 007e?
I recall reading that some change was done here for 007e.

"Прости им, они не ведают, что творят"
"Perdona loro perché non sanno quello che fanno"
"Vergib ihnen, denn sie wissen nicht, was sie tun"

"Pardonne-leur car ils ne savent pas ce qu'ils font"
"Perdónalos porque no saben que lo que hacen"
"Oprosti im, jer ne znaju što čine"
"Forgive them as they know not what they do"

Video (Screen) Issues
I just loaded the Finless 1.8 rom with 720 Kernel and 720 no air boot options. I am pretty new to the Minix Neo 7 having it only a few days. My experience has only been rooting some tablets.
The Rom update was simple and well explained and updated easily. I first erased the Nand as well. It booted up fine and seems ok but i keep having my TV screen flash off and then back on after a few seconds. I have a 720 LCD tv so that is why i chose the Kernels i did. It seems to flash dark every 30 seconds or so.Replugged the HDMI cable and tried another one. Same result. I'm going to try the 1.7 to see if it's the new Rom or not? It's not shutting down like the Stock rom was after about 20 or 30 minutes just flashing off and on.
WOnderful little box if i can get it to show properly and not shut down. Love XBMC!

OK, I found out what was going on, but don't know if this is a know issue. The reason it happened right after the Finless 1.8 flash is that, even though I had the ethernet cable plugged in for weeks thru all my testing of various roms, nothing was loading or updating in xbmc repo until I just now activated the wifi setting. now everything is updating and installing.
is there a known issue with using ethernet & 1.8 rom? because with my heavy streaming, i pretty much always use the thernet cable and have wifi off unless im doing a screen mirror or something.
if there has been issue and/or mention of this, could someplease show me where the message thread is, i havent found anything regarding this as of yet. but, at least for now i can proceed with my system setup.
this combo rocks on the X7 and i do not want to switch to anything else

Video tests using X7 + JustXBMC 1.2.2 + Finless 1.8
In case it's useful for others here is my experiences testing a range of video formats on the X7 using a combination of:
- Justxbmc 1.2.2 / finless rom 1.8 / 1.8Ghz, 600Mhz GPU and 800DDR3 MEM
- Files are on a NAS accessed using NFS accessed over 10ft Wifi connection 5GHz (not ideal I know)
(Codec info below courtesy of ffmpeg)
- .wtv files recorded from Windows Media Center (circa 3GB size / MPEG2 / video bitrate: 3716 kb/s)
- XBMC - Fail. Would not play it
- MXPlayer - Would play it
- .ts files recorded from Media Portal (3.9 GB size / mpeg2video / mp2 audio / bitrate: 3040 kb/s )
- XBMC - video perfect / audio out by .4 secs circa fixed with global offset well documented on this forum
- MXPlayer - As XBMC fine, I did not test
- .vob file (ripped DVD, 720p)
- XBMC - video perfect / audio out by .4 secs circa / bit of buffering
- .mkv file (makeMKV from blueray, 26GB, h264 / dts / bitrate: 26693 kb/s)
- XBMC - playback smooth apart from some buffering / audio offset as per .ts
- .m2ts file (home cam movies, a few MBs 7159kb/s, h264 / ac3)
- XBMC - fail, unwatchable - and crashed XBMC after 10 secs
- MXPlaer - Pass, played them fine
Other issues noticed:- Sound output defaults to A2 on every reboot
- Add ons repository seems empty although all repos’s enabled (so unable to install Universal Movie Scraper)??
So for the purposes of this Finless 1.8 ROM thread, I'm satisfied the X7 is playing the HD content smoothly, its just network bound by my setup (fixable with more buffering or fixed lan connection).
Anyone know how to sort the A2 default sound device issue on reboot? I have not seen a fix listed.
I now plan to retest the above with the Minix XBMC version + 007e stock and see how that fairs. My open pain points are mainly XBMC related in terms of the JustXBMC Add ons repository, and how to use MXPlayer as the default player for some file types so the XBMC experience is seamless.....but there questions for a different thread.
Thanks again to all for providing the recommendations on ROM et al.

That MKV plays fine in JustXBMC ROM? Because ive tested one Bluray Remuxed on my X7 with Finless 1.8 OC Kernel and is very suttering, via SMB or USB.

Note that I have NOT tried SMB. I went straight to NFS as others have said that NFS is much better than SMB in terms of streaming efficiency.
Do you have an option to try NFS? Can you copy a smaller file onto the device locally to exclude the network?

Using a LAN did avoid ANY buffering but I was disappointed it isn't quite perfect. You get the odd v minor stutter here and there - maybe every 90 secs or so.
Duration: 02:11:14.91, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 26693 kb/s
Stream #0:0(eng): Video: h264 (High), yuv420p, 1920x1080 [SAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], 23.98 fps, 23.98 tbr, 1k tbn, 47.95 tbc
Stream #0:1(jpn): Audio: dts (DTS), 48000 Hz, 5.1(side), fltp, 768 kb/s (default)
More tuning to do then.

finless 1.8 and tronsmart t428
Hello,
i've seen that this rom on my tronsmart t428 restarts the device every 20-30 seconds.
I chose kernel 1080p 1800, 600gpu 667ddr (but also tried with all stock).
Have you got any advice on this? Actually i'm on strauzo rom (nexus with multiwindows SDK2).
I would like to try finless rom because of frame skipping on Strauzo.

This is not functionnal on Minix stock firmware.
Maybe they hide few parameters about this feature (time lauching, ....), so it's unusable...
Thanks for your nice rom!
