That's why you need a modified boot.img.

Clean install of Finless 1.8.
Sound Devices Manager set to "RK29_RT5616 PASSTHROUGH".
Downloaded SPMC 12.4.1 - LibMediaEdition_v1.5.
Sound setup to HDMI / 5.1.
No sound at all on this setup and my receiver just says "No digital signal".
Trying MX player now, and it says "Sound codec not supported: dts".
Really weird.
Tried a few other XBMC versions, internal players and... no sound anywhere through HDMI passthrough. This seems too much of an effort fiddling around with this, gonna try switching back to SPDIF instead for now.
Switched to SPDIF passthrough now and DTS and DD lights up right away in Internal player and 2 tested XBMC versions. MX I probably messed up the DTS codec install I guess?
Really strange. Is HDMI passthrough not suppposed to work ok just following the steps above?
Sound Devices Manager is set to "RK29_RT5616 PASSTHROUGH", but no success in MXPlayer Pro (it says "Sound codec not supported: dts"). AC3 5.1 plays smoothly in my home theatre decoder, but no audio at all when playing DTS 5.1.
It worked perfectly in Finless 1.6...
Anybody knows what happens in Finless 1.8?

Don't have any android at hand right now to put the right menu entries here.
Or... you can disable in the settings the HW+ decoder. For my own part, I found that simple HW decoder works better for me.

https://github.com/USBhost/MX_FFmpeg is my modified source where i'm building from You can download recent codecs here ( GitHub releases ) and 1.35.0-1.8.6 here ( Google Drive ). Also the XDA download tab is no longer updated as for some reason I...
Also please note that multichannel passthrough is not supported by the h/w+ decoder.

I read in the post you linked this:
They are not ready to have a deal with the software players. So, dts playback support is dropped from the official MX-Player.
You can use dts pass through without any copy right issue
If you want to play DTS while using HW decoder
Thanks for your answer!

Have you tried the stock video player? I get DD and DTS passthrough with that as well.
Try e.g. the "Hobbit" clip linked here. It's one of my standard test pieces for video playback. I get DTS sound with the stock player, MX Player and SPMC.

Thanks for your help.

Let me know if it works.
- Flumpster's Minix XBMC Test3 (linked above) / Finless 1.8 ROM / 1.8Ghz, 600Mhz GPU and 800DDR3 MEM
- Files are on a NAS accessed using NFS
(Codec info below courtesy of ffmpeg)- .wtv files recorded from Windows Media Center (circa 3GB size / MPEG2 / videobitrate: 3716 kb/s)
- XBMC - Fail. Would play but only with sound
- .ts files recorded from Media Portal (3.9 GB size / mpeg2video / mp2 audio / bitrate: 3040 kb/s )
- XBMC - Fail. Would play but only with sound
- .vob file (ripped DVD, 720p)
- XBMC - video perfect / audio out by .4 secs circa
- .mkv file (makeMKV from blueray, 26GB, h264 / dts / bitrate: 26693 kb/s)
- XBMC - played fine, in fact the image looked sharper than with justXBMC. I noticed the odd artefact in the justXBMC test / audio offset issue
- .m2ts file (home cam movies, a few MBs 7159kb/s, h264 / ac3)
- XBMC - played fine
So in summary worse for .ts files but adds .m2ts support over justXBMC. I also felt .mkv files player more smoothly and looked sharper.
Other points to note:
- the good
- I don’t get the sound default problem I get with justXBMC on every reboot
- the bad
- A2 remote is pretty unusable as unlike with justXBMC your pointing seems to override the use of the scroll pad making it v hard to navigate menus
- it also seems to select items just below the pointer. I struggled to drive the bottom movie menu within XBMC.
- audio offset a (fixable) problem like justXBMC

As for the "Hobbit", the clip is not online anymore.
And I tried the stock player and it does exactly the same: AC3 5.1 is played smoothly as a 5.1 digital stream in my home theatre but when selecting DTS 5.1, the audio is muted unless I select S/W decoder for audio (but in this case, the 5.1 is downmixed to stereo, no digital output from Minix to home theatre).
Any idea?
