I second the man above, no need for useless chatter. For wasser to help us, he needed our help first, hence the testings done at the beginning, besides, one should not expect direct support from a custom ROM versioned 0.xx.

However, feedback is noted, guaranteed, i've seen some amazing response for this rom.

On topic, i see Linaro has 3.5 kernel sources for rk3188, can they be used somehow except linux?

I also think its rude to compare roms to one another i.e. comment one is better than another and I always believed that in all forums its expected that the user will read a thread in its entirety or use the search function to avoid posting a duplicate question that has already been asked before. Anways these are just my practices but I dont think I have ever seen an op post a status list of open/closed bugs on xda.
I'm sorry... i must have missed something
      - Where was the OP criticized?
      - Where was ROMs compared?
      - Where does it say that the dude did't read the whole thread?

I was suggesting some practice! If you read that as criticizing or comparing anything to anything, i must say that it's your own problem

Let me be more clear: I saw plenty of threads over at XDA with lots of info in the first 2 or 3 posts. This practice helps everybody. It's not criticizm! I can give examples, but i will keep it simple and this is NOT comparing ROMs... but have a look here on our own Freaktab forum:

The first 4 posts are full of service announcements that helps people getting started.

Now, why would it be important to help people getting started? Well, the more people running the ROM, the more people can test, give feedback, report bugs and whatnot.

The guy in post #670 might just have read the whole thread. But for now it's 34 pages (678 posts) and growing. It is getting harder to read the whole thread by the minute.

      Therefore, i find that:
      - the guy at #673 is kinda rude, passive aggressive. No need for that
      - at #674 i give SUGGESTIONS, not even criticizing anyone. I use an assertive tone, very polite.
      - still the guy at #675 gives a lame comment for no reason at all! Very uncalled for.

And now i need to sit here apologizing to you, for things i never said or done, but YOU think that i said and did....

Again, i did not criticize, i did not 'compare ROMs', i did infact read the whole thread, and i have like a handful of other users, found a bug concerning static IP address in the settings. Endless boot loop. I have reported this, people have tested and confirmed this - so one might say that i contribute on same level as every other guy

Who is expecting direct support?? Useless chatter is to attack a fellow user for giving suggestions!!

You're all suddenly so busy attacking me instead of giving constructive feedback. It's kinda sweet, actually. But let's get back on track! My post was very positive and suggesting a few things. No one criticized anyone, except you and 'the man above you second'.

        Thankyou for your time!

Its hard to say; I guess it could be 720p? Anyway to tell for sure? Or am I to make a judgement call? I don't get any random reboots with the rom. Do we know what titles are on netflix that are available in 1080p?

                @Cantenna

House of Cards is in 1080p with bandwith of 7 mb/s on my Samsung 8000 serie.
But on my X7 with JustXBMC its 480p.
                Samsung note 2 is 480p.
                Samsung tab2 its 480p.
On my laptop with win7 it plays House of Cards in HD!
You can see clearly the difference of quality even if it is 720p.

                  First round of testing

Hi all - just installed this for the first time and thought some feedback could be useful.

                  The good ...

                  1. Super nice to see the full kitkat experience - my tv really seems like a giant version of nexus 7.
                  2. Seems more speedy than any other rom - installing my apps on play store really flew instead of queuing up like before.
                  3. First time I've seen the device show up as usb storage on my laptop when plugged - nice for copying large files over.
                  4. Thanks a ton for all the hard work. Hoping I can contribute with details below.

The other sort of feedback ...

                  1. Even after reading 3/4 of the 680+ posts on this thread, I'm clueless as to what all of the different kernel images do differently. Same goes for the parameter files. I find them all to be quite cryptic. If a description exists somewhere - a link to it in the original post would be nice.

                  2. So trial and error lead me to try out several kernel images. I did 'Erase IDB' before every flash.
                  • kernel-neox7-720p.zip (from OP)
                  • kernel-neox7-1080p.zip (from OP)
                  • kernel-neox7.img (included in firmware zip package)
These all froze up during initial android setup (vertical line artifacts on screen then auto reboot) and again a few minutes after reboot. None of them picked up an ip address (dhcp) for the ethernet interface. I didn't test much else coz no ethernet was enough for me to move to the next attempt.

                  3. I settled on kernel.img in post #15 of this thread (page 1) as it was supposed to have fixes for the wifi and ethernet issues. This is where I'm at for now until someone tells me which kernel is the best/most recent one to use. Regardless, if it can help, here are my observations:
                  • Wifi works well
                  • Use Ethernet is checked but it never gets an IP assigned
                  • Bluetooth won't turn on
                  • Unable to get sound out of regular speaker plug (the small headphone one). I don't even see the sound device manager to specify which device to use. HDMI sound works tho.
                  • Minix A2 remote has basic functionality. Another poster in this thread fully described which buttons work/don't work so I won't repeat.
                  • Playback of 1080p video was smooth if the file was local on sdcard. However same file on attached 2TB usb drive was choppy. Used MX player for both.

So I think I'm headed back to QuickShot v2 for now (wife and kids need working system) but I am willing to take another shot at this rom based on people's recommendations/fixes.

Thanks again for all the good work.

Hi Pantz. I'm not sure the Kernel in post #15 was even for Minix. It looks like it was for the T428. That was early experiment stuff. Before you give up on this firmware/kernel, please try one of these from the very first post. It is a zip folder that contains 8 kernels. Start with the least OC version, and go up from there if you wish.

                    cpu1704h/cpu1800h gpu798h ddr800 1080P, cpu1704h/cpu1800h gpu798h ddr720 1080P
                    cpu1704h/cpu1800h gpu600h ddr720 1080P, cpu1704h/cpu1800h gpu600h ddr800 1080P
                    oc-kernels-1.zip

You need to select the Loader RK3188Loader(L)_V2.08 not the V1.24. The file is in the Rockdev folder Just click on the right most column of the tool, to browse and select.

I found this post to be a lot of help when flashing firmware. It is for one of Bob Finless roms, but the steps are similar...

                      @Pantz,

No need to erase IDB when you are flashing an update, or just a kernel.

And yea, the reason why you've seen such a fragmented thread is due to testings. Wasser released what he released, and updates to that release depended on people testing it and throwing feedback.

It might be a long thread, but you can filter information pretty easy out, and on every kernel test that has been done, there is a date on the file-name which actually was always tested and responded at.

I understand the frustration, especially from the previous page, and im sure an update will deliver us a better management OP page, but all you can do right now is test it and ask questions, there are loads of people here eager to help , besides being a custom rom on early stages, the whole android tv/box area is a sector that is constantly changing and is at least 100x more fragmented then the phone market.

Thanks for the tips georget. I'm pretty comfortable with flashing - it was just that I was trying to avoid an oc kernel to start with. I'd tried some with Finless a while back and wasn't so successful. Then in trying to find a non-oc kernel I figured the one from post #15 was for Minix seeing as it was posted in this KitKat-4.4.2 for Minix X7 thread :/

Anyhoo I'll do as you suggest and make my way slowly through the oc kernels.

Any details on what the parameter files do?

"I posted some alternate parameter files back in post 130 http://www.FreakTab.com/showthread.php?p=131538, no idea if they have been tested yet though."

It looks like the parameter files posted on the first page adjust the size of memory available for apps.

So you guys managed to get Netflix to work in SuperHD with Minix X7?

It usually works with some strange resolution which is somewhere between 480p and 720p with tablet devices, mobile phones etc. (with the exception of nexus 7)

I want this feature so bad. Would make the device pretty much perfect. I heard simple nexus 7 spoof won't do the trick though because there is some kind of hardware signature verify process to get SuperHD/1080p.

Hardware signature, in that case I'll give up. I also know Netflix Canada restricts bandwidth; another obstacle to overcome. Hopefully someone will release an exposed tweak to address this. Wonder if spoofing via xprivacy is another option

@pantz, may be quicker for you to use tincore quickflasher for flashing kernels; that's what I'd do
