In an effort to save people time I can confirm that lan does not connect in stock kk ROM, it as nothing to do with the kernel it is just the bad implementation of the ROM. I have tested five different lan adapters and they do not work, I cannot get an IP address and even if your input it manually it still doesn't work, try it if you like but it just does not work. And yes I have checked in DMESG to ensure that the drivers have loaded properly

edit: i got sum of the lan adapters to work

Yeah they are, I copied the entire lib folder from the stock over and rebuilt the system.img, boots fine but still does it.

Given it back to my friend with a custom rom, your flashed kernel and a network adaptor, at least he can watch 1080p movies on XBMC this way. I did however give him an earful about buying off ****, because if he simply spent an extra £5 he could of had a genuine one without overheating issues, wifi, bluetooth, 2gb of ram and 1080p instead of this. It also would of saved me hours of my time.

              So the dilemma is:

              1. Stock ROM - wifi fine but no USB ethernet
              2. Custom NEOMODE ROM - USB ethernet fine but intermittent WiFi

Correct? Has anyone tried alternative custom rom's like those from Wasser / SMIC to see if they work?

Stock rom the Wifi is fine, no USB ethernet or no possible way to get 1080p unless major work is done (terminal commands do not allow it to switch)

Custom roms will allow 1080p and USB ethernet but Wifi is broken.

My time with the device I tried all possible custom roms, they won't boot or the Wifi is broken. They also all appear to support the ESP8089 chipset.

So at this stage will it be possible to have a Kitkat rom with working WiFi and Bluetooth, with the work that d33 and Sam have done.

Thanks for the great work so far btw 😊

My friend complained of dropped frames for 1080p movies at 1080, went round there and noticed the performance is pretty ropey despite d33's kernel, that is also using a custom rom, so GPU is not unlocked on that particular device.

There is clearly something awful about these clones - still can't believe how hot they get despite doing FA.

The plus side, he let me take a hammer to it and has ordered a new one from geekbuying.

What a waste, development as only just started on this stick. Something I dont understand about people that buy these devices just to play video at 1080p using XBMC. There is already something out there that can do that very well, not only can it do that but it can also emulate many classic consoles such as NES. SNES. MEGA DRIVE. PSX. N64. and many more, and it only costs $25/£19, you might be asking yourself what it is ?, answer, the Raspberry Pi http://www.raspberrypi.org/ look in the forums and you will see what I mean, not only that it is developed and built in the UK. Also an excellent community support

I don't think there cyclex stick is that awful and hope its just a matter of time before we see a working Kitkat rom, even if its only 720p it would not be something I would lose sleep on.

Thanks to your custom rom Sam

I am now able to watch all my collection of family videos, Mkv Avi Mp4 with no frame skipping so I am really grateful for that and I hope that the hard work you and D33 are putting in doesn't go to waste, the market must be flooded with sticks like this so I'm sure that the development is not wasted. 👍

I dunno... was pretty enjoyable for me

The Pi is nowhere near a decent rk3188 for emulation or XBMC, the 512mb and single core with the lack of built in Wifi really hurts it. I do own a Pi and can attest to the playback of video, but even overclocked for things like the GUI they are not great.

At the cost I just didn't want to waste anymore time, if i didn't have two CX 919's to compare to I wouldn't be so harsh with it.... but I do, and it's absolute night and day in performance and quality, he also see's that since he was currently borrowing one of them, he probably knew he made a mistake of getting one from ****.

I wish you guys all the luck in the world though with it, you'll always be somewhat behind in performance due to less ram and potentially the GPU being crippled, but hopefully something can happen.

I would like to present my custom KitKat Rom.

This ROM has been made by using a different Rom From A different android stick as such I have had to make heavy modifications to the system files to ensure that a bluetooth and WiFi works properly therefore it is required that after the first boot that you shut down the android stick and remove all power, do not try activating the WiFi or bluetooth on the first boot, after this it does not matter.

                            Features of this ROM

1: WiFi and bluetooth working 98% of the time nothing in life is guaranteed 100% lol. it is subject to following my instructions above

2: d33 unlocked and overclocked kernel just make sure your stick does not get too hot

                            3: Rooted

                            4: added init.d support

5: you are now able to use USB Lan adapters

6: a much more polished ROM. as this ROM was made by a reputable manufacturer and modified by me to add all the above features to the Rom and then I modified the system files to work on this android stick

This is version 1. I have attempted to ensure that there are no bugs, however I have got limited time but I have done my best. I do strongly recommend that you consider extra cooling as these sticks do get hot, you have been warned. I cannot take any responsibility for you damaging your android stick

                              Thank you 😊 Sam!!

Flashed this morning before work, followed instructions , although WiFi showed up in the list it would not connect. Did factory reset, restarted a few times and connected to WiFi 😊 .

                              Bluetooth works.

Will play more tonight, but a big thankyou to Sam123 and D33

Top work Sam. I'll upload a 720 res kernel when I get a moment, just in case it is useful and I'll compile the two USB drivers mentioned.

After that I think I'm done on this one.
