    OK,BUT

What exactly is better than the original.

To make a new rom is if the old one does not what it should do.

Like constantly stopping crashing things like that but this is not the case.

It must improve the working of the tablet but Iám not an expert so still gues about it.

I can understand upgradeing to another version of android.

OR is it just the original version increased with more options in that case I can understand it.

have a nice vacation and hope you are pleased the moment you get your own user experiance , please post your first impressions as you have more experiance than most of us.

I'am interrested not only in the good but also in the bad.

    Cheers

It's too early to tell if there are any deficiencies in the stock firmware. Little things are discovered when several people start to use the device and report problems.

Each time I do a v1.0 ROM, it's hard to say what we will find. So I typically make little tweaks and corrections here and there to improve upon the factory firmware...in subsequent updates...like 1.0.1 or 1.0.2...etc...

In order to get a baseline, v1.0 is very bare bones. We have to make sure it boots, first of all. We have to make sure that the technique I've used to root and structure the ROM kit will work as planned. So, testing for the first time isn't for beginners. First, you need to know what to do if something fails. I suggest having a copy of the original firmware handy, just in case. And the self confidence to troubleshoot on your own to at least try to figure out a glitch before asking for help.

Then you need to be able to explain exactly what you are experiencing, detailed enough for me to understand what's happening.

I'm not just throwing these ROM's out there for everyone to use...just a few brave pioneers who are willing to test. Otherwise, we will have a disaster of bricked tablets to contend with...which I may have limited ability to support. I'm loading the car now for a long road trip and will be away from my PC until mid next week.

I'll download that newer firmware and work on a new ROM.

I'm not taking down the link to the test ROM's above....use at your own risk.

I have been struggling to get Rockchip device drivers working on Windows 32-bit together with Pipo P1, but it doesn't work for me. It's not recognized as a Rockchip device on the USB.

It has worked fine for me on previous Rockchip devices like UG802 and Minix Neo X5....but now I fail.

Anyone else that managed to get USB drivers working and shown as Rockship when connected in flash mode?

I had the same problem. Used different drivers without result. Then I read about RK_DriverAssistent and now it's shows in Device Manager the Rockchip device. After that I could flash my P1.
And with RootGenius I have rooted.

I also tried with RK_DriverAssistent many-many times but without result.
Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I open the dialog and first uninstall. Secondly, install drivers. It still doesn't show as Rockchip in Windows when tablet is in recovery mode.

Anyway, thanks! ...at least I know that it is possible.

You shouldn't be in recovery mode when you connect.

In developer options, make sure USB debugging is turned off.

With the tablet booted to the normal system, connect your tablet. The flash tool should see the tablet in mass storage mode. Click the switch button and the tablet will reboot to flash (loader) mode.

here are some picture of pipo m6pro (very similar in terms of external dimensions, P1 is a little bit thicker) and cube talk 9x.

cube on the left, pipo on the right:

at first view the cube seems that have a little screen, due to the very slim bezel and lightweight, but it's exactly the same of the p1: 9.7".

The screen brightness of IGZO display (of the cube) is a little bit different wrt the "older" retina sceen installed on Pipo P1 (and m6pro): due to the less reflective screen IGZO display is better readable outside and in general seems better defined.

I think it's a fantastic step forward on tablets. It's really a pity that Pipo did not integrate this beautiful screen with the powerfull RK3288 processors.

In my opinion Pipo needs to increase build quality to be competitive with other chinese brands like cube, because at the moment there is a big difference in terms of build quality of pipo tablets wrt the Cube.

Sorry my bad, I tried so many things to get these Rockchip drivers working and ended up in the wrong procedure....putting it manually in recovery mode.
However, good news ....I successfully managed to upgrade my first tablet with Pipo's latest version of the stock ROM. I thought it was the safest way, as I'm a newbie. I used the RK Batch Tool, because it shows me the pink button and it feels nice when it turns into green color, indicating flash mode.

Next step for me is to test this stock ROM to see if there are any improvements.

Future steps would be to try custom ROM.

                        One question:
When I start RileyROM Tool v2.1 it shows the information "Found One MSC Device". It doesn't show the text "Found RKAndroid Mass Storage Usb", as described in document called: "First Time User Guide_rev9.pdf".
This difference in text was initially the main problem that I had and why I ended up in trying to manually put the device in Recovery mode (wrong, wrong and wrong, by me.).
Is it safe for me to flash a custom ROM, even with the text "Found One MSC Device"?
I manged to flash the stock ROM so, I guess it should be ok, but I want to be sure.

I answer myself and it's YES ....it works just fine. I successfully managed to flash RileyROM v1.0 with RileyROM Tool v2.1 on my Pipo P1 wifi (only) version.

Sorry for the delay here....I was fast asleep when you first posted the question.

Yes, it appears that the new Rockchip flash tool uses some different terminology. Since I have not been able to test it, myself...I didn't know how different it was. I can change it, or leave it alone and rewrite my instructions....

The good news is that I returned home from vacation yesterday and found my P1 waiting for me (at my office). So I plan on doing some testing today.

Last night, I wanted to spend some time playing round with the stock firmware and see what needs to be done. Aside from rooting this thing, I really haven't encountered ANYTHING that stands improvement just yet. At first, I will add root, init.d support, busybox and a little debloat. There is a sub folder in the system.img that contains a bunch of Chinese apk's I plan to remove.

Right now, I'm downloading both the wifi and 3g versions of new firmware...so RileyROM 1.1 will be out soon...this time, fully tested.

Out of the box, this tablet looks and feels exactly like the M6 Pro. I mean, EXACTLY. All of the external jacks are in the same place. The camera is in the same place. The buttons are all in exactly the same place. The speakers are mounted in the same place. So, if you are familiar with the M6 Pro, you will also be familiar with the P1.

The difference comes when you power it up. While it takes over a minute to get through the M6 Pro's boot animation, the P1 boots in about 30 seconds...if that. I haven't timed it, but it's very quick.

After installing some essential apps from Google Play Store, I decided to run an Antutu test, and received a 38579, which put the P1 at the very top of the list. This morning, my score was 39946. That's with Apex launcher running and a bunch of apps already installed.

Wifi seems very fast. It connects very quickly to my dlink router. I copied some video files from my home network to test, and got about 1mb/second transfer rate over wifi. There were a few times the connection timed out on me, but the same file copied over OK the second time.

Video playback is great with no lags encountered from various video file types.

                            Netflix played back flawlessly.

Out of the box, it had an 80% charge. With all of my playing...for about 3 hours last night, the battery went down to 40%, so I'm charging it some more before I doing any further testing.

I want to thank my friends Eric, Apple and Wendy at Geekbuying.com for sending me this tablet so quickly....and in great shape.

                              Hi Randy,

So you found nothing wrong with the configuration it came with.
                              Pretty nice to hear.
Lets wait untill you checked it out further.

                              giouncino<

Again you are comparing two different tablets.
The pipo p1 is not an exact duplicate of the pipo m6 pro maybe the outside does but internal its different.

If one or other tablet is better to look at outside is only possible to compare if you have both tablets ......go outside and test it.

Now you compare the older pipo m6 pro with the cube and compare it with the pipo p1 and are telling us the pipo p1 is not as good outside, but this was your intention from the beginning in my opinion.

Again you take apples and pears and this is not the right way to investigate the differance between two tablets.

So sorry I do not take this seriously anymore.

                              Androider,
