So there is no way to overwrite the /etc/remote.conf?

Is it possible to guide me through this? I'm not familiar with creating startup scripts in linux

Copy that line to a notepad file calling it autostart.sh putting in the correct path and file name.

A good path for the remote.conf would be /storage/.config/ as its browsable via windows. So copy the remote.conf there

Copy autostart.sh to the path /storage/.config/

          Reboot.

Thanks Will try that once i get my M8N.

In any case, seeing that most sellers now have the new square remote, shouldn't there be an "easier/more automatic" solution? Like a separate ROM version? Maybe I'm asking too much of course, I've never built a ROM myself.

It could be accompanied in an xbmc addon quite easily.

A preinstalled addon maybe. With the option to select which remote you have. This will create the startup.sh and download the correct conf.

So it's something that could be done only by the ROM developer, in this case codesnake?

No. Any xbmc addon developer can do that. Just in the same way we write movie addons using a python script to make changes to the writable areas of openelec.

Hmm. This is out of my league then.

If you follow the manual steps you should be ok. I'll try and knock something up that people can install from my repo to automate it, unless codesnake can build in a solution.

Thanks I'll try the autoscript method when I get my box. It would be really sad to miss on Openelec on M8 just because of remote configuration

Ive be always wanted to try this and it's awesome. It's so much faster , I only use my M8 for XBMC so this is great.
Testing live channels now everything is doing great

I get the OpenELEC logo at bootup with new update. And the box also does a full reboot when using this option, which is a plus since IPTV updates only when it's fully rebooted.
